I have a level 70 control wizard and I'm wondering generally speaking which artifact set is the best for a control wizard.

With the upcoming Lostmauth nerf you should go with Black Ice. You get the same power/crit/arp/AP gain stats but the belt boosts Intelligence & Charisma instead of Strength & Dexterity so it's more appropriate. You also get a set bonus of 'chance to deal 10% unresistable weapon dmg' as opposed to weapon damage on a crit.

All DPS up to now were going with Lostmauth because its set bonus gave crits on crits, multiplying their value - that will change probably in a few weeks.

Still TBD, any testing now is being done on preview for PC.

With the announcement that there will be an exchange for the Lostmauth set, the C.Y.A course of action would be to acquire the Lostmauth set, level it to a point where you you don't lose a bunch of RP if you exchange it (I.E to a complete rank - Rare - lv 30, Epic - lv 60, Legendary - lv 100, or Mythic - lv140 for the Artifact, Rare - lv 15, Epic - lv 35, Legendary - lv 60 for the neck/belt).

At the rate at which CW's typically crit, and with the relatively lackluster other options, Lostmauth (even post fix/nerf) is still going to be a viable option - 2200ish extra damage per crit is still 2200ish extra damage.

Vailndra - nothing to get excited about, control bonus is nice in theory, but CC either a) isn't needed because stuff dies too fast, b) stuff that doesn't die fast enough is typically CC immune so it's pointless... the INT/CHA is nice

Imperial bonus - I was HAMSTER around with it on my DC who is currently using the LM set, I don't think it is even working (or like so many DC abilities, the ones I use don't proc it)

Lathander bonus - trash

Tiamat - trash for CW

Seldarine - I suppose there may be niche for this in PVP if you wanted to make a really tanky CW, but I'm in no way interested in this at all

Black Ice - this one may be decent, however, it is fairly rare due to ways of obtaining, cost, and the fact that Lostmauth has ruled the roost for so long - I'm hoping that there is some info somewhere with definitive testing

Orcus - TBD, but cannot exchange for it.

Basically, the way I see it is - LM no longer = must have due to the discrepancy vs all other sets but remains a viable option (because all the other set bonuses are not really any good) or until something better comes around, be it Orcus or the next set, or the set after that...

Unless of course some nice CW on the PC side can run some ACT stuff using Black Ice set (the "chance to" is what worries me based off the description on the Imperial set - which I never saw proc - reading log on XBox is a pain).

Black Ice sucks, orcus sucks, lostmauth bonus is still okish (1-5% of your dps) but not amazing. I would either go for Full Lostmauth, or go with a broken set (black ice/lostmauth cloak, lostmauth horn and then valindra belt). Black ice is out of the question because its bonus is pitiful.

Thanks @thefabricant I was hoping you'd weigh in with an answer Yesterday I bounced the question over to the PC forums as I didn't know how often the bonus procs but the answers there are in full agreement with yours.

Just to clarify, black ice set belt (lvl 60) gives CHA & INT... Greater black ice belt (lv70) gives CHA & CON. Black ice belts are pricey as there aren't many around any more. So dont make a mistake and buy/trade for the wrong set.
