New to NW - Character Movement from STO to NW Question

crm14916crm14916 Member Posts: 25 Arc User
With the new Arc 3.0, I thought I'd delve into a few other games that I thought looked interesting. However, when I came to Neverwinter, I discovered that I was handicapped. The issue is with movement. In STO, the WASD keys allow for free movement through the environment, but with NW, the mouse is needed for directional travel. Is there any way to sync the movement in NW and make it more like the movement in STO?

Thanks for your help!

There probably is but I'm not sure... I can suggest playing STO (in ground combat at least) in shooter mode by pressing the B key; that might help you get accustomed to NW movement in an environment you're more familiar with. Just a thought.

I played STO for years before NW, and have played Neverwinter since pre-beta... I can tell you this: Get used to the NW controls - they are much better. STO's controls are clunky and slow - you'll find if you get used to Neverwinter that controlling STO becomes pretty annoying and painful. The first-person mode in STO is really much better, but it doesn't do the auto-aiming like the 3rd person mode does... if it did - the STO controls in 1st person mode would be perfect :)

I too am a long time STO player....
And when I started playing NW.... the controls were the hardest thing to get used to.

But now... as I bounce between STO and NW alot.... (you dont know how many times I've hit the 7 key while on ESD :p )

But I agree with kvet... it is much better than STO's controls... I started finding myself using the mouse more in STO for directional movement. At least for ground movement.... :)

i like STO window menu format better than NW, you can set up with WSDA movements to directional keys in option settings.
NW is more of mouse/lot of keys format, and STO is all about directional and mouse controls, STO is similar to Champions.

Thanks all for the replies! I appreciate the comments regarding the differences between the two systems, and agree that it may be best to just get used to the way NW works. However, I would still like to know if there's a way to set the movement controls in NW to be the way they are on STO, and how that's done...

If it's not possible, then that's fine... But if it is, if someone knows how, I'd love to hear...

    Thanks! :)

I was born in 1975, and I don't think time travel is possible... That coming from a physics professor...

Anyway, we can close or ignore this thread now because I bet I can guess what any other comment is going to be...

    Thanks folks!
