Lost AD in the Auction House

I tried to buy an item for 16k AD last night and recieved an error message: 'unable to make the transaction', or something to that effect. I have seen this same message playing the exchange in STO, but I never lost the Energy Credits.
The Auction House took my AD. I know 16k isnt much, but what concerns me is that it could happen to me sometime I acually spent a signifigant amount of AD. I saw no way to issue a GM request for this kind of error, I tried my best to report it.
Searching forums and Reddit I saw only a few reports of this error and in each the op expressed that the GM didnt believe the user and nothing was done.
I really like this game, and I dont want to quit over this but I have to believe if it happened once it will happen again, and if I lose a signifigant amount of resources I am going to be very upset. Can I get my item or AD back?
