Rank 4 and Power Points

My apologies if this is as obvious a question as I think it may be. I am currently level 70 with 72 power points (I was extremely happy to receive one after my first overflow reward). I also have a respec token. Would I be correct in assuming that even though I am level 70 and have spent 70 power points, a respec will essentially "re-lock" the Rank IV option. In other words, despite respecing, I may only have 2 Rank IV powers? Hope that made sense!

You're wording it strangely, but I think you are asking if respeccing will let you pull power points out of unused powers and get rank 4s in all the powers you like to use.

The answer, as you suspected, is no.

If you note the unlock for rank 4 is "70 points spent and level 70". When you respec, you start at 0 points spent, so you will have to spend those 70 points before you reach the rank 4 unlock again.

So respec or not, you still only have 2 points to spend on rank 4 powers.

getting power point is rare and very random, and i like STO's format with power point earned every level.

some are very lucky to get point in every level or a few while many others got screwed after 5th or "Still Counting" trying to get a power point several times not getting, and some are mad and sick of it, that RNG of power point isnt very kind.

Uhm...are you sure about this? I stopped playing a year ago and at that time I was level 60 and had gotten quite a few power points. I came back a week ago, and one of the first things I did was a respec and all my points "survived". Right now, I am at level 69, with 70 points spent, and 12 points I can put into rank 4, once I hit level 70 (hopefully later today).

OP only has 72 power points, respec'ing won't change that for him. If you had twelve extra power points at 60 you'll have 83 at 70.

Its a little too harsh another qol change that should be fixed for us.
Was fine when you got a extra level a week.. not so good now.

In short, you must spend points up until you are "level 70", i.e. spend 70 points, before you can start putting a 4th point into any powers.

STO sells for 500 zens for 2 power points, reason why it is cheaper, all the captains get free power point after each "overlevel points" completed.

some groups are tired of waiting for my specific class trying to gain a point, and still not getting after 4-5 times just to get in tanking or better heals they need. i had to modify my GF as speed buffer to make my group move faster and deadly but my "DPS" isnt anywhere enough they wants.

^^ This - nothing worse than the crappy experience tome, talk about rage initiation 101. Surely that's a cruel joke

Although, I've been lucky and a got a PP on the last 3 out of 4 exp rewards.

I tend to make lots of alts, so those XP tomes aren't all bad IMO. What annoys me is when I just get a few R5 enchants or a 5K RP stone and nothing else...
