Tanking in mod8

armando89plarmando89pl Member Posts: 14 Arc User
Im thinking about starting new char, since i got DC,TR and HR i was thinking about tank to be able to fit in any party with my guild. Which class provides more utility, holds aggro better and so on? I'm playing mostly PVE and need to be able to run T2 dungs at 2,2-2,4 item lvl (don't want to spend too much on new toon).

Both have their strength and weakness. GF buffs party, can shield them for 50% of their damage, TAB is a hard taunt without a CD. Only con is that you need to work on your guard regen so your guard doesn't just drain empty in the middle of a fight.

I would bet on OP tank getting nerfed eventually. That perma divine protector HAMSTER is about the only thing they offer than makes them a better choice for a *lazy* party. But OP still tanks way better than the GF, it just lacks the nice 50% mitigation from knights valor.

My GF is doing fine at 2.3-2.5k.

...also, while GF has some hard taunt, ProtAdin has more +Aggro side effects, so generally is easier to play and less timing critical. Also plenty of AoE Encounters make getting attention from several mobs easier IMHO. Active Defender pets mostly wreck both classes' aggro management, though...

Plus side for the OP: You can somewhat safely expect that Devotion for general utility and heals probably won't be nerfed to the ground, so, with maybe the need for later respeccing to Dev, it's got more versatility, too.

So I'd recommend a Paladin, but don't cry if and when they apply the nerf-hammer to it.

I switched to another class after doing GF. Everybody requests Paladin. I prefer a paladin when playing my GWF. Don't understand why Cryptic decided to undermine the GF.

Everyone breathes easy with an OP in the party. That's just the way it is right now.

Think of it this way, playing GF is hard mode and OP is easy mode (actually its more like swimming with armbands). As somebody already mentioned here, the OP is a one trick pony, and that one trick does in fact need a complete redesign (nobody here can openly defend it as valid design).

GF if you want to play a more "old school" tanking game. Paladin if you want to be superhero HAMSTER mega dude.

I personally think OP is just too much. As @suicidalgodot said, don't be surprised when the dev's decide to nerf the class.
The damage has already been made. Hope they will not destroy the class like they did with a SW.

And yes, this comes from a GF player perspective.

I do NOT see anything cool or fun with playing perma bubble OP. This God mode should never been implemented in the game.

Than again, you will find folks that prefer OP, and you will find the same for GF - it's a matter of taste.

They didn't, they're just too lazy to balance the OP. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell you divine protector is the most broken thing in the game right now.

Correction: everyone breathes easy with a Bubbledin in the party.

If it turns out you're a non-bubbledin, the party goes "where the hell's your bubble, man?! Stop being useless!"
