I was pretty active in the game and on the forums until about a year ago when I quit playing altogether. Now I have returned and am trying to find the best way to adapt to the changes since then.
Here is my issue: A year ago I was lvl 60 DO (Faithful), with pretty good gear (High Prophet, Purified Black Ice or Draconic armour), Belt of Wisdom, good artifacts, good augment companion, (mostly) R9 enchants, good weapon and armor enchants etc..etc..and with 29K HP, I had no problems with any content at the time.
Now, a year later, I still have the same gear, but the game has moved on, and I need to adjust - but how? First step is obviously to get to level 70, and it seems I should go for a Righteous build instead of Faithful - I want a PvE-focused build that is good for soloing and buffing/debuffing in groups.
The question is - what to do about my gear. What do you recommend I aim for? I did play a little bit in Dread Ring yesterday (yes, I know it is not supposed to be a lvl 60 area any more), and it was easy enough - the mini-boss at the end of the daily quest there did, however, hit a bit harder than he did a year ago, so more HP would probably be a good idea.
So, what to do? my old High Prophet gear may still have its uses, but it doesn't seem that great when soloing any more.
Hoping for improvements...

I use a lvl 70 set for solo play or when i party without a tank (to much agro)
i use high prophet for party play
As I said, I went away for a year - just returned earlier this month, and was wondering about the best way to get decent up-to-date lvl 70 gear.
Current plan is the following:
Mainhand/offhand - farm motes for the Drowned set (currently at 33/100)
Pants/shirts - buy the drowcraft set on the AH - I prefer the set bonus to the slightly higher stats of the crafted pants/shirt (I got the pair for a really good price, 20K each)
Rings - get Jewelcrafting up to 25 and make the personalized 2-slotted rings (currently at rank 12 - I had to start at 0, so this will take a bit of time)
Neck/belt - As I already have the Tiamat artifact, I was planning to get the full Tiamat set (easy to buy on the AH).
Armour - I will hang on to my old High Prophet set - the debuff is really nice, and there will probably be circumstances where it is actually useful, and it is perfectly good enough for all the level 70 solo content, but I need something better for some of the group content - the Dragonflight set, maybe ?
Anyhow - can anyone offer some suggestions to improve this plan ?
Having said this, I am looking at the Twisted set in the longer term, or (perhaps more likely) whatever will be introduced with the next module, but in order to get that, I need a better weapon than my old gear.
What would you have suggested ?
Twisted set is by far the easiest and fastest to farm. I got mine during the 2xRP weekend.
Personsal belief is drowned is BIS for PVP, fire is BIS for PVE, twisted sits somewhere in the middle because it gives you more damage resistence when you need it and more power when you need it. I'm still not clear what the other weapons sets are for, lol
The drowcraft pants/shirt are cheap but as you said the stats are lower than gemmed. The set bonus is pretty meh. But on a budget build its not a bad way to go
If your having problems with survivability in PVE as a buff/debuff/dps dc, get some life steal. I use savage enchants for defense slots to maximize HP and lifesteal. but I'd target atleast 7% (10% will really make you feel comfortable, i.e. you can start tanking T1 dungeons).
most is non tradeable now
those new rings are nice, the armor is great.
So to sum up, my advice is to pick up whichever piece of gear that improves your stats!
Wearing a full set of elemental lionsmane, dual slot recovery rings, prelates shirt and pants, greater wisdom belt and seldarine cloak, I have opted for a high deflect build. Anointed Champion, halfling. Currently sitting at 50% damage resistance and 41% deflect (no pots).
I have a low power of 12k points, BUT, have out healed a number of players geared for pve with their 27k power levels.
So gearing for pvp and being successful in pve, is always a pretty great option if you enjoy both parts of the game.
