(In the original Monstrous Manual there were blank pages one could make copies of to create one's own monsters, races, and other figments of imagination. In that spirit the following is put down for reading for your amusement, or use.)
"You found the book then?" asked the first of the two young mages talking, the one in red. The two humans were gathered in a far corner of the city.
"Yes, and it was indeed in Waterdeep. I had to pay heavily for it." The young mage in green handed it over to his counterpart.
The mage in red thumbed through the pages, and paused in the middle of one chapter to read it aloud.
~~Addendum - Drow (Other)
Drow are also known as Dhaerow, or Ilythiiri in their native language. The classic known Drow are Llothites primarily, but there are also Ellistraen cities. There is even a few cities that are male controlled, but rare. These male cities also have to be on constant alert from invasions of other Iharesses (Queens or Rulers) to overthrow the male government, and return them to primarily female control.
Examples of offshoots of the main Drow race are Shinduago Ilythiiri (Surface Drow), and Xarzith Ilythiiri (Ice Drow).
Shinduago Ilythiiri are Drow whom have left the caves either willingly or by exile to live on the surface. Many wander around for their lifetime, but some may settle into other cities that are more accepting of multiple races in one place. Waterdeep might be an example of a city to find a few Shinduago Ilythiiri in.~~
"That, is quite odd. Then again is so where we got it. Are you sure?" asked the mage in green.
"Quite sure those are the words on the page, best as I can translate. The study of Draconic I thought would prove useless other than making some higher spells." The mage in red shrugged.
"Draconic?? I thought it may be some old Thayan. Eh, read on."
~~Xarzith Ilythiiri live further North that other Drow settlements, and are adapted to colder conditions. This includes lighter skin, and eyes more commonly in shades of blue or violet rather than red. You'll find more blondes in Xarzith Ilythiiri than other Drow settlements. Hardy and strong of will they also may not subscribe to as many Llothite beliefs as the need for survival has taught them to value life more highly. Indeed many Xarzith Ilythiiri settlements are Ellistraen rather than Llothite.
Other offshoots may be known, or occur. These however are often reclusive so information is sparse, or hard to come by without actually visiting them. ~~
"Then it goes into some short narratives on a few journeys of some of the Drow. It's not an invasion, it's a meander." The mage in red laughed. Here, further information by Oghma."
~~Addendum - Half Elf (Other)
Whilst is it known that Half Elves are prescribed as being half human and half elf, other hybrids of half elf can occur. Most are reluctant to call these hybrids or mutts "Half Elf" per say being used to the stereotype of them being half human as the other half race.
A half elf, by standards, is half elf as goes without saying, but the other half MAY be more mixed or other than human. Possibilities are Half Elf/ Half Halfling, Half Elf/ Half Teifling, Half Elf/ Half Faye, Half Elf/ Half Dragon, etc. Races that are close in stature or location to elves are possibilities.
These hybrids and mutts have abilities and features of both (or more) races in their heritage. If abilities might conflict there is a 50/50 chance of each sibling to inherit one or the other ability. An example is a Half Elf/ Half Drow that may or may not be affected by sunlight blinding them when trying to see. One brother may see fine in daylight, whilst the other needs to be in the dark to see well.~~
"That may explain that cute courtesan we saw at the Moonstone Mask the other night. You know, the one you kept trying to chat up." The mage in green poked at the mage in red's arm with a wink. It was responded to with a punch on the mage in green's shoulder.
"OW ow ow.. ow."
"Hush you gully rat. There's more to be read." The mage in red shook his head, then continued reading.
~~Addendum - Mixed Race (Mutts)
Mixed races occur most commonly in cities where many travelers go through, or in cities with a high trade economy. They can occur in pockets around racially based cities. However, if a specific race occupies that city then any hybrids can be shunned, or shut out so they have to move elsewhere.
Out in the wilds one may find the occasional Half Dragon, or Half Faye roaming around if a dragon was settled near a small village, or a town is next to a Faye Circle. Again though these hybrids may be shunned by one or the other parent's family so the parent and/ or the hybrid has to live elsewhere. Sometimes they find a home in a village or city of many races if not to wander in the wilds for their lifetime.
Mixed race can also occur when planes collide, or portals are opened. Such an example is a Teifling found on Faerûn. Some wizard may have created a portal, and that allowed others through which spread into the land.
Mutts, for lack of any better word, occur when mixed races breed together. It is not impossible, but rare that hybrids as such can produce offspring. However as a mule may have a foal in spring so can these mutts occur too. An example of a mutt may be a Half Elf (human and elven)/ Half Teifling. The resulting mutt has three to four races to inherit features and abilities from.
A mutt starts out with the abilities and features they will carry throughout their life, and in growing to adulthood these are refined to focus and strengthen them. Horns may get longer, fire breathing may become precise, and spell casting reliable as examples. These abilities are not naturally "added to" or "discovered", but if they are it is some outside interference which can carry dire consequences for defying nature to obtain them.~~
A pause was given by the mage in red. He then expressed disgust with a gag, and pointed at the page. "Oh ye gods, listen here..."
~~Many a cleric has had to attempt to cure woes with magical surgery (using spells/ magic items to add wings, tails, change skin color, etc) or bloodline modifications gone wrong that destroy a body and mind. Spellplague makes these worse if exposed to it after the magical surgery, or bloodline modification.~~
The mage in green taps his fingers to his chin." Question is then is this book then, or is it now? The book is old, but the words seem yet to be. How much is fact, and how much is fiction, if any?"
"I think....." His eyes go wide, and his words stop in the middle of the thought as the red mage points ahead at the approaching woman. She is very short, elven appearance, dressed in blue and purple, with a silvery look to her.
"Ahem?" A hand is held outwards by her towards the book, and no further gesture is made.
A great deal of coughing is done between the two mages with shifting looks between them. The book is slowly closed.
With an amused smile she shakes her head, and reaches for a bag at her side offering it out in exchange.
"A bag of peridot enough? It must have been expensive to get somebody to break into my library. Might be a few sapphire jumbling around in there as well."
Sheepish mumbles are exchanged between the two mages, and then a few nods given as the book is turned over for the bag of gems. An amused laugh trills from the woman, and the two mages would almost swear silvery wings had poked out from under the cloak she wore.
"Next time please just as for entry to the library. It takes less effort."
"Not.... eating us?" The mage in green squeaks out.
"I never eat a species I'd date. Simply horrible," she replies.
The three figures part ways into the depths of the city after that with the mages walking as fast as they can.
