Implement a new PVP mechanic into the game. (Duel)

Someone else had briefly mentioned this idea under another topic but I felt compelled to shed some more light on the possibility.

I really enjoy the open-world PVP that has been written into the game with mod 6. And being a TR, I'm usually one to stalk my prey. Looking for new people entering the arena area while they're completing their PVP quests, moving from behind one tree or pillar to the next waiting for the perfect time to strike while they're caught off guard picking black ice or galloping by on their mount, etc. Guerrilla tactics if you will. Love it or hate it, once you're tagged for PVP it's on you keep up on your situational awareness. I have no empathy, I look around as I pick and turn my corners wide. I'm also up for a good 1V1 while both factions watch us go at it on the sidelines without any outside interference, "doesn't always work that way". So the next logical step would be to implement a new mechanic into the game. Being able to inspect a player and choose to duel them into a 1V1 where nobody else can interfere. Like the dual option that Borderlands has. PVP in NW would pretty much come full circle and be more competitive all around. Just some food for thought.

BTW: I would've created this topic in the PVP section but this is feedback for the devs.

*We need more Domination maps BTW.

I actually had a question about this. On my OP, kinda hard to actually fight since I am not at all a PvP player. But I go into PvP to simply mine black ice, I spam that I don't want to fight, just trying to mine, and yet I always get attacked and killed.

What is the point in killing someone who is not even trying to fight? I understand its PvP Zone. But it has a large bit of Black Ice that no other area has, so its great for getting that ice.

So when I am sitting there taking a few hits from someone and constantly spamming, not fighting just mining, over and over again. What is the point in continuing to attack? Do you get something from killing people or something? Maybe I am missing something.

Once again, I understand where you are coming from about it being PvP and you should expect to get in a fight. But like I said, if someone is spamming that all they want is the ice, the decent thing to do would be not kill them and cause them to respawn with an injury and have to go all the back over there. But what am I thinking, there are no decent people that play this game lol

If you're spamming you don't want to fight then I wouldn't attack you. But being an OP I wouldn't have bothered to attack anyway, it would drag out for far too long. I simply ignore tanks. Most of the time people don't have time to message. I have also jumped in to help other people that were in the same situation as you. I had my eye on one player waiting on the bridge but decided to continue forward to complete a task. When I started to work my way back the same way I came from they were gone and further up ahead attacking a much weaker flagged SW that was just trying to go around and light the torches. I jumped in and killed the other person and revived the SW. He thanked me afterward and I followed him around the map until he completed his quest. So it's not all **** moves over here. Anyway, this thread is mainly about a 1V1 dual mode. Not to defend using the TR for what it was made for. "An opportunist killer" and not a cookie cutter melee class.

No I understand, I have killed a few with my TR as well. Just don't understand why some people feel the need to kill someone who spams that they are not trying to fight, just trying to mine the ice or get a quest done. lol

When two people are engaged in a duel their faction emblems would both turn yellow "as opposed to one red and one blue" signaling to other fighters that they are both engaged in a duel and cannot be interfered with.

That brings up another idea actually, knowing that you mainly PVE patsfire. Having the ability to choose from "Two" different saved premade paths. Instead of having to pay to respec our feats and boons for one style of game play or having to be stuck building a hybrid path to enjoy both PVP and PVE, which ultimately holds you back from being at your best in either event. Essentially having the ability to use AD to unlock a second setup. You would simply go under Feats and check the setup you want to use for the game play you intend to run. For instance, a full MI/Executioner build for PVE and a MI/ Sabo or WK/SC setup for when I run PVP. Armor would be completely unaffected. There are many people who are serious about both aspects of the game and many who are held back for the hassle of having to spend resources to respect just enjoy a different play mode.

Just some more food for thought.

And ofc some people resort to having a pvp character and a pve one. I'm thinking of starting a pve only pally for dungeons.

I think the duel idea is good and once flagged gold as you suggest, they'd be unassailable from those flagged red.

It'd be a cheap way for devs to create a 1v1 setup without creating a new arena, queueing system etc.

With a less trollish reply; as you're a TR Pat, how about equipping as much stealth as possible and vanishing?
(never played a TR so I don't know if that's a silly comment or not - lol)

There's no fixing people, but some classes can just plain escape!

I can see a problem with the flagging system that people could possibly exploit that might need to be addressed.

What if two players flag themselves for a duel in the PvP zone and can't be interfered with during the PvP encounters but still count toward the ability to capture their team's points but, obv, are unable to be killed by the opposite team. A predefined arena popping up might be a better idea.

Obviously this would only be a problem in IWD or Dwarven Valley, but ijs.

Once they are flagged for a duel they cannot engage in any PVP event or quest, everything is locked. Once a fighter dies the duel is terminated. If both fighters stop fighting for a period of time or separate for a long distance the duel is terminated.

People are usually good at not jumping in 1V1's on the bridge, but anything off of it is almost a guaranteed royal rumble.

The bridge in IWD has plenty of room, we've had quite a few 1V1's with multiple players from both factions standing across from one and other watching and waiting their turns for 1V1's without a big fight ensuing.

love the idea, not sure if the devs is going to implement it as on the outside it might look easy for the dev to tweak it, and base on what a lot of my programmer buddies told me since i live in microsoft area, it takes lots of coding for it to make the game seems seamless and user friendly

um, yea I clearly said when I was on my OP (that's Oathbound Paladin if you didn't know). Then I also mentioned that I have no problems with my TR. I still don't PvP EVER, but I can hold my own in IWD PvP area with my TR.

I would love to see something implemented that has been brought up though.
