Time to start a new server?

It seems that most of the problems that Neverwinter faces are the result of botters and old exploits that were abused by players and caused a few to be very rich. With all the new changes against botters and exploiters I think starting a new server could be a solution to have a great game back.

Browsing XBOX one forums, it seems that they don't have many of the problems we have on the PC side.

Would you like to have a new international server for Neverwinter, where those that want it, could begin with a clean state in a game in a much better state and more equal to all players? Of course with no character transfer. Everyone would have to start from zero on the new server.

I've had this same thought, but I don't think the population could handle it and I don't think you'd find enough players willing to basically forget 2 years of play to start over in a game that very much so feels like Beta still.

What you'd have to do is come up with some sort of benefit structure based on time played or currently equipment or what not. 3k+ item level? You get 3 boons in each campaign, R8 enchants of choice and some gear or something. Reduce it the further down (this is not extremely well thought out so specifics are made up). Or maybe easier, character transfer, currently equipped items/boons/companions only. Yes, people would dump every cent to bring over as much as possible equipped, but that has limits and would largely level the field.

That said, doubtful as it costs money.

lol I would never ever start over again with a new toon, even on the current server. Way to expensive and way to boring gameplay to repeat it.

I would like to play on new server.

new server is quite possibly needed... due to the extensive damage that has occurred. The writing is on the wall... but the only way it would be possible is with Char Transfers. The game is so much less fluid and responsive as it was in March... when I started. There were the latent residual effects of CW spells all over the place. Some of that has to be an issue now, with other powers, feats and boons... that end up hanging around an instance and gumming everything up.

The devs are not t fault. They were handed broken machine and told to fix it. Having been that "fixer" before, I know there are ton of things that need to be done in an effort to even begin. The fact that they took on such an effort... speaks volumes about character.​​

About character transfer.

Maybe if only lvl/boons/companions could be transfered.

If we would transfer enchants/artifacts/gold/AD/refinement/wards/GMOPS etc we would be at the same place as we are today on the current server.

I have a hard time believing a platform with availability requirements like a streaming video game system would have a single point of failure like a single login server, or a single kind of any server.
MS Server and Linux both have abilities to be either clustered or hot-swapable, along with networked load-balancing (traffic is typically balanced by routing via a Cisco ACE or F5). You can do it ghetto and use a VIP (virtual IP) on your OS, replicate your database master/slave style, and use a VM load balancer for simple `are you awake?` port testing.
If this platform really does have a single point of failure, well then... I dunno. Pretty grim.

Sorry, but no way in hell would I invest any more time in this, new server or not. I have lost complete faith in Cryptic and it's time to cut my losses.

So... Just flush everything I've already acheived and paid real money for over the past 2 years down the drain and start over from scratch just because the game got corrupted by incompetence the first time?

It would be a new server. The current one would still continue running. And only those that would like a new beginning would move to the new server. For others everything would stay the same.

That would be even more stupid. Splitting the already thin playerbase over two servers is a very very bad idea.

Adding a new server probably isn't the biggest problem, the problem is... who's paying for it...

You would have to put in the option for me to copy my character(s) over to the new server. And that would totally bypass the reason why you would want to make a new server. The asshats who have been cheating all along would just copy their way over there and just keep on trucking along, abusing the game.

I'd rather see them sell the game to a company that can competently run it.

Yeah, it'd stay the same along with all the bugs and HAMSTER that is making the game bad.
So why on Earth would it be impossible to import your current character to the new server? At least the character and all its gear in the very least.
