Equiping New Items For Your Companion

I just noticed that when I went to compare a new item with an item already equipped on my Companion, I am unable to compare the new item with the item that is equipped on my companion. Yes it does compare the equipped item, but it is my character's equipped item that the new item is being compared with, not what my companion has equipped. Is there anyway to compare what my companion has and not what my character has equipped?
