Identificating items

ponquponqu Member Posts: 50 Arc User
So, i'm currently leveling after long break (around45lvl) and i'm not sure should i idenify the loot that i get? Or only the blue items? Identification scrolls are still only way ot do it? Is it worth comparing the ad cost of a scroll to the few silver that i'll get?

Personal opinion, identify the blues, identify greens only if you have surplus scrolls from killing mobs. I never buy scrolls.

Bottom line - don't buy scrolls, its a huge waste of AD. You're better off buying the cheap blue equipment with your AD. Eventually, you'll have more scrolls than you know what to do with.

This is a good rule of thumb. Personally, I only identity items I can use, and don't bother identifying items for other classes - even blues, (the only exception would be if a new class is introduced - blues for said class tend to sell rather well for the first few weeks).

I pick up everything. I ID everything. Why? Because I can.

So you don't think it's worth refining the "junk" we pick up? I do, but often wonder if the effort is worth it, since the bar doesn't slide to any degree. I just hope for a cumulative effect.

At level 45 there is nothing to refine. Just sell the green junk without identifying.

In lower levels, you are unlikely to get enough scrolls to drop to ID every gear item, so only ID blues and greens that your character might use. After 70, you will get tons of ID scrolls, so it's just a matter of how much bag space you want to waste on carrying around green gear.

Of course, equipment is a currency in Strongholds -- or at least it was the last time I checked on Preview -- so people might want to ID and carry more drops around, until you can get to the Stronghold and feed your mimic.

    What Bio said.

When my arti equip is green or blue, I identify and refine matching pieces. Once it gets to purple, it's really not worth it.

    15 green items = 1 aquamarine.

    For free.

Not exactly "free". You need 15 id scroll which is about 50 AD each but it is still a good deal doing that.
I stock up scroll when the price is right.

i would trade my scrolls, a stack of 99 scrolls for 5 (blue) Mark of Potency/or any 4-5 rank 5's enchants.

devs should retire those idenity scrolls and unlock any of those "?" from lootable items, it just taking up too much slots. green and blue unknowns are worthless.
just my opinion, those scrolls were meant for unknown unique items.

example, finding out what kind or amounts of charges on unique casting wands before they are consumed, or add a new "Deowmer" enchanted figurine for limited time summoning pets, most of these drops are very rare to find from plunderable chests in dungeons to keep them from overflooding by drop rates.
Deowmer statues are elite unknown items and high quality and should last for one full boss fight unlike those Companions that dies too quickly.
Deowmers and wands are not meant for low levels characters.

    They are not AE RP.

    Umm, now with Mod 7:

    - Get VIP Rank 6
    - Remember to grab your 25 scrolls each day
    - Identify everything...

Up to now/before I actually bought a stack of scrolls every week or two, and IDed everything 60+ for RP. After all, 125 AD for 100 ArtiGear RP is an acceptable price, normally below the one for peridots etc... ...tedium discounted, or somesuch :^D

This. Essentially the VIP program is trading a monthly investment for reducing the AD micromanagement a bit. This and the Key's are mostly the reason I am going to go VIP. That and the ports (signpost? whatever). As long as it's a viable port (as in porting back to the enclave at a bare minimum).

as of right now...I pretty much follow the blue concept. I was amazed at how much it sped up my game when I stopped grabbing every green/white out there. You get pretty fast at identifying what's worth picking up (any whites post 40's are usually scrolls or trash items...worth grabbing since they stack), enchants, and blues are what I grab. I may grab more once VIP kicks in, we'll see how far those scrolls go. But 25 extra per day isn't half bad...that's about what I used to buy before I stopped grabbing everything.

On another note...for some reason I totally did not know that you can actually post things on the AH anywhere. so don't bother to hold onto those blues...either drop them in the AH every time you get one, or at a bare minimum, drop them in when you clean out your junk at the vendor. that also saved me a bunch of time.

Just in case you don't know already, you can also sell your junk to vendor from anywhere if you use the gateway to sell it. You don't need the merchant (as go to the shop) or using the merchant artifact for this purpose.

oooooooh....the things you learn....appreciate the info!

ironically...I just recently started using the Gateway to buy things as well. the in game market is sadly far buggier then the gateway version...I literally browse and buy on the gateway now, with my character in game near the mailbox...even though I can access the market in game in the same way...

On a side note I think that's the one thing that frustrated people the most about the leadership change, was having to go from an interface that was smooth, fast, and you could cover all your characters while PLAYING...to the slow, in game, clunky thing.

The question becomes whether the time it takes to pick up, ID, and utilize those green items to refine your other gear, is worth it - when you could potentially spend that time doing other content.

I'm not saying that doing as you described is "wrong" - it just seems like more of a waste of time - I feel you'd be better off hitting a few profession nodes or such, instead...

For me, that is minor comparing with all other inventory management things I do. :)
It is in the same category as what I would do if I pick up enchantment/RP stone/Mark/Peridot/etc.
ID/refining gear is the easiest task among all inventory activities.
