Outdoor Map - Need Darkness

torontodavetorontodave Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 992 Arc User
I need to add a cloud of darkness to my outdoor map.. Any suggestions?

Skyfade Exterior - only has black/white and shadowfell(sepia/white)

Skyfade Interior Black - has lots of options, but when you use this interior fade on an outdoor map, it makes EVERYTHING pitch black, even if you use the 'light' options.

Are there any cloud FX that will blanket a whole map in 'darkness'? There's a smokey cloud that I used in my Black Pearl quest, but I don't know how large it is. (or what its called, without loading the map)

I just want things a little darker to show that a curse has taken over the land, then once the curse is lifted, the light returns.

I'd say the skyfade options, but you don't like 'em. ;) The skyfade options are distance related, so when you move towards something it "appears" out of the darkness, it doesn't stay shrouded forever unless you move a certain distance away. But don't recall if can trigger to appear/disppear... I've been very afk lately.

Maybe use several depthfade black 1000x1000 for your sky, set appear when for darkness to fall, then disappear for when curse lifted. Using dialogue or objective triggers to set. So it wouldn't be such a hard line at the edges of the horizon, you could encircle the area with more depthfades. It won't make your buildings or areas any darker, doesn't throw any shade.

Cloud map effects... for an entire map that can also be triggered by events, I don't think there are any, just the static ones you can set with the backdrop editor. Could be wrong about this.

Then there's FX inky blackness (or cloud), I believe it's 50x50, but for an entire map that would be a lot of assets towards your final count. Maybe take a look at FX necrotic smoke, as another option.

hmm... ill try some depthfades around the edges, see how it looks

dust storm 01 provides enough darkness, but its 162x162, so I may just lay a bunch of em.

Not sure if you're still looking at options (mind you you have to wait for the Foundry to come back up) but if you don't want to use the skyfade blacks, blues etc you can also use the skyportals. There are 2 options if you just look up skyfade that will put a huge sort of vortex into the sky around the map. It also changes the lighting effects for the map. The other option is the Shadowrealm skyfade, to make it like it crossed over into shadow.
