It took me a few minutes to pick my jaw up off of the floor and realize what's going on here, but let me explain this to you in a way that you'll understand.
Removing Leadership from Gateway is the best thing that PGI could do right now. Consider:
1) Working folks were the ones who used Gateway for Professions in the first place. Working folks don't have access to the game at work, so now they will no longer be making as much AD per day. Previously, Leadership gave them enough AD per day to advance their characters, and now they will not have that. So, these folks will either pay (they have jobs, after all), or they will quit. That's fine with PGI, as they've never really appreciated non-paying customers.
2) Zen to AD is now going to go down, so you get fewer AD per Zen. So, if you want GMoP, you'll have to pay more Zen for the AD to get one. Obviously a win here, as people who already do this are now too invested to leave the game, so they'll eat the new prices and pay more.
3) It forces bots to actually log into the game, artificially increasing server population. This is great for PGI pushing into the marketing for the next Module: look, our game is still alive and well, our servers have 22,000 concurrent users at peak time! And only 20,000 of them are bots! This is why PGI doesn't have to care about losing non-paying customers; to them, you're no more valuable than a bot, and they're going to have plenty of those!
So, see, it makes perfect sense to make this change. I tip my hat to PGI's marketing team, and take my leave to go play Skyforge. And I won't be coming back, since I have no reason to check on Gateway a few times every day ^.^
