Just came back since Dec 2014. Which should I main?

yramragyramrag Member Posts: 73 Arc User
I stopped playing after mod 5 came out a little while, and now I am back to take a look at the new mod and new level cap. I have 2 main which I spent a lot of time on: Level 60 MI TR and a Level 60 SS CW. Both using BiS (at that time) armor set and weapons. Now I am thinking of just spending time with one to level to 70. Which one should I play?

I guess I am basically asking .. which one got nerfed to the ground, which one is viable for mod 6?

Thanks in advance!

Well, most if not all your used to be BiS items is now worse than "average".
I think CW is better but first thing you do is to go to AH to shop for some new cheap blue gears.

I find HR and CW to be the most exciting classes in the game. Trapper Stormwarden HR is like nonstop skill spamming if you like extremely engaging combat. The downside is being ultra squishy until you get Crushing Roots.

SS CW is a Jack of all trades and quite easy to play. Put Shield on Tab(mastery) and slot Conduit of Ice/Disintegrate, Steal time and Icy Terrain. Shield in Mastery slot makes you super tanky and will give you really good survival.

They nerfed CWs storm Spell dmg to half because its not critting anymore and has icd.

TR? I heard the executioner capstone is not that OP anymore. But its still good and Sabotuer is also viable.

Both got some moderate attenuation, but are well viable.

It depends on what you're leaning to: In PvP TR is still the easier choice, IMHO, and PvE, especially where Dungeons are concerned, The CW is more suitable and hence popular as a party member. Both are survivable enough as well as DPSy enough to solo the Elemental Evil campaign. But you should really consider switching to those random blues from the AH - they have tons of HP on them, and the game is balanced in such a way that you will want those. And when buying prefer "piercing", as you'll wish some 4k ArPen towards the end of the Elemental Evil grind-o-drome.

Lifesteal got heavily nerfed, either stack it sky-high, like to 6k. or skip it more or less. Regen only works in peacetime, or as a buff to the incoming healing. Hence healer companions are a sensible choice nowadays - augment is fine, but when you use that, you might probably find yourself drinking a lot. And/or popping injury kits like potato chips.

I even created a rather tanky Scoundrel build in preview. At this point I am not willing to share it. I would rather have other TRs experiment on their own. A TR is a good choice if you are determined to make one. Choose your own path... there have been too many cookie cutter TRs.

The nerf isn't that bad. Sure we lose a lot of damage, but the ICD is only on the same target. Focus on freezing stuff and you'll be fine. This rework is all about survival. Control > damage unless you can 1shot your target, which only the most OP can these days thanks to the 25% HP increase every normal mob above lvl60 was given.

Sure! Few more "not that bad" nerfs and even DCs are outdpsing CWs...

You should main the class with that you have the most fun. If you start to devote yourself to something like power it will leave you unsatisfied.

Your wallet is your main, you use it to gear up your alts.

Thanks all for the advice, especially suicidalgadot (really sound advices!). I just completed Vault of the Nine quest (I completed it previously on another account) and it really feels like the mobs are buffier, with more HP. I'm going to start the new content with CW and go from there. If I am really not enjoying it, I will switch to TR and try again.

I have outDPSed many a (eqGS) CW with my DC in Mod 5 Grym dungeons... ...so where's the news?

Can you do repeat this now in mod6?

No, let alone because the GG dungeons don't exist anymore :^D. Also not because IMHXp as a RiDO, I get kicked from parties ASAP.

While the mob HP raise would be advantageous to the DC damage profile - Crit-triggered massive DoT - to some point, it still strongly depends on mob composition. Many critters => CW wins, many brutes => DC wins is my guesstimate. Also keep in mind that the partymates' damage - including the CW's - is upped to quite some extent, too.
If you'd math that out, I'm fairly certain I'd be competitive. I did end up on top of paingiver in a number of Dread Legions - but probably there's quite an ILvl issue there, too.

But I also admit to having sidelined my DC for the time being. I can come back to you later if you wish...
