Difficulty of Icewind Dale, Well of Dragons and Dread Ring?

danaswansondanaswanson Member Posts: 87 Arc User
Hello,

I'm a Level 70 Guardian Fighter with a total item level of 2,300. I use the shield and cloak from the Lord Neverwinter quests and have a few nice purple items.

I'm currently at Sharandar and can handle myself there but can't solo all the dungeons. I'm wondering what would be the next location to quest at.

If you were to assign a difficulty level to Icewind Dale, Well of Dragons and Dread Ring what would these rate at?

Thanks!

Just curious what would come after Dread Ring, Icewind Dale or Well of Dragons?

    Thanks,

just go and check out, the difficulty is similar, id say IWD is easier

i would suggest to start doing some stuff for IWD now - there is a quest that requires you to do 1 heroic encounter and get 300 black ice, you should start doing that quest now - it allows you to progress in iwd campaign and you get some PR from HEs. you need to do it 35 times for IWD rep. you can grind the rest of the stuff for the campaign later

I agree. Dread Ring is next, but the basic IWD quest could get a good boost from starting now. When I started you needed several boons from Sharandar or Dread Ring to even be invited to IWD, now you can go at will once you are level 60, I believe. WOD used to require a high Item Level (then Gear Score).

I have found WoD to be easier than IWD... I just recently have been able to take my TR solo the DV in IWD. Yes, I died a few times, but that helps me learn the different mechanics needed. Honestly, I do not think you can get any better without dying.
For the first time since the end of M5 I was able to solo the quest where you have to get the chemical from a hard bunch of monsters. It took me 3 tries and I have figured out what works for me. Before this time I have been avoiding WoD and IWD... because I felt I was not fully ready. Out of necessity, a lack of things to do with that toon, I ventured there and was shocked.

IWD has a charming aspect: The basic daily quest for the collection of "Caer Konig Reputation" can be done by running with the Zerg. This won't speed up your boon progress very much later, unless you also run the three daily quests for Auril's Tears, but you'll get over to Dwarven Valley early on and can get there earlier.

Just after doing that "Safe Keeping/Needless Distractions"-only for 10 days, you won't profit from it any more (campaign progress-wise)...

I am at 2700+, item level and most things are back to where they were at the end of Mod 5... all but the Epics.

IMO the rewards in have caught up with the difficulty... in all those areas... I can't speak to the "Well" cause I have stopped going there.

I do miss the campaign progression and hope they reinstate it

So other than the Epic DDs I'm good as most will be

I do hope Mod 7 does not put us back

You will find IWD to difficult without a group/party helping you. As a GF or pally, you will survive better then most, but the time you will spend in there trying to solo ANYTHING will have you banging your head on the wall. Plan on spending a good portion of your playing day in there trying to complete all quest. MY GFW has a IL of 2.2K and I still find it not worth the time to even go there without my guild mates. YES, you will hear opposing opinions from those who buy there way up the IL tree, but serioulsy... it can be a very difficult area to try alone for the "average" player.

Did that when my GWF was iLevel 2.2 (although iLevel does not mean anything) and that was before the HE runs. It is even easier these days because of the continuous HE runs. Getting black ice and HE to get "Needless distraction" quest is a lot easier than my GWF was 2.2. Killing bears alone will be hard but if you do the HE runs long enough, you will get bears and Yeti. 3 Giant Helms can be done by getting one helm on the ground and kill the lone Giant twice.

    sharander is level 71
    dread ring is 72
iwd and wod are both 73

definitely do dread ring after shar.
iwd and wod will both be difficult for a solo player unless you are very well geared/p2w
