  • Ah yeah wimpazoid that makes sense. :) And agreed. That's enough defensive capability for almost anything to work well.
  • Well... I'm not really trying to test the passives qua passives. I'm personally more testing how the existing builds I have will work, they just happen to have the passives that were changed. Agreed - it's NOT a good test of just Quarry itself, and I wasn't really going for that. Without blocking, he goes down WAY faster…
  • Well. Just tested a recent 40 respec build, Heroic gear only, R5s max. Way of the Warrior (r3), strength primary with Juggernaut and con secondary. Defense is sitting at 68% DR boost without Locus running. Locus pushing it closer to 88%. That character, which already didn't have a ton of dodge, only lost like 5%... and…
  • I'm willing to test it. I'm just skeptical at this point. On the plus side - I won't complain about getting the veteran rewards immediately on my LTS.
  • Here's a stab at a ranged team "template" of powers. PowerHouse (Link to this build) Name: Archetype: Freeform Super Stats: Level 6: Dexterity (Primary) Level 10: Intelligence (Secondary) Level 15: Talents: Level 1: Level 6: Level 9: Level 12: Level 15: Level 18: Level 21: Powers: Level 1: Gunslinger Level 1: Two-Gun Mojo…
  • Yeah - having played stalkers, you'd think Strength would be an SS... but... Str gets you +melee damage (some, tops out around 70 before starting in on diminishing returns), and knockback resist. Since you are running Night Warrior, ideally, you should not have tank levels of agro, although an agro dump or two would help…
  • Also - how many other MMOs, if any, give you a new character slot for hitting max level? I know several that definitely don't.
  • Heh to kenpo. And to others - hey - that's a fine pace as far as I'm concerned, since otherwise my altitis goes nuts and I don't hit 40 on anything for weeks. Plus, some weeks I get a lot of playtime... others I may have 2-3 hours total. It's not so quick in terms of days and weeks even at 19 hours when it still takes 3-4…
  • With the dodge changes on PTS, you may be pretty squishy without at least a block, say Force Shield with Force Sheath. I'd probably ditch Lock n Load for that. Otherwise, looks pretty good from here...
  • This game feeds my altitis and character-maxing itches something fierce. Honestly - I *love* that it takes such a short time to hit max level, get my retcon, and get a new character slot. I have a particular path through missions / alerts - westside to get the Intrigue Culmination, usually Renegade Run and Vibora Bay…
  • I've also found that Enrage / Unstoppable (for knocks), or Enrage / Defiance (for knocks/being attacked) work really well with Pyre and the like.
  • I'm becoming a fan of Pyre. I have a concept character (tank, but with lots of AOEs), using fire and heavy weapons. I really like Brimstone/Aftershock, Fissure, and Pyre for DoTs. Why do you care? Because while it is a charge attack that does knockDOWN (not back) - I think Pyre is one of the best charge AOEs I've found.…
  • Argh. I have some kind of bug on my account where I can only see most of my channels on PTS, not on live. It's very irritating. I'd *like* to see Zone chat, and I can't. Makes the game pretty lonely, frankly. This started probably when I started getting a lot of disconnects, particularly at night, ~ 9pm EST. ...
  • Hmm. I will mention that on my wind character, I find Wind Reverberation to be a really underwhelming energy unlock. Nothing really clearly sticks out for your present character though as clearly superior - you don't have that many cooldowns... and while I'd ordinarily suggest moving something for Force Geyser / MSA, since…
  • Yeah. I pondered a flat increase for dodge from Gambler's gems a few pages ago. ;) As a complete wild guesstimate, 2% per rank might work. Sure, for Legion / Justice gear, that's a possible 18% x 2 (+36%) if people have R9s. For Legion/Justice gear, with R5s alone, that might be +20% dodge. Personally, though, I expect…
  • Looks pretty good from here and close to what I would have suggested for this one. I will say that on PTS, I've started to find Combat Training almost totally worthless with crit chance scaling with the new changes. I have kind of liked the AOE +dodge from Brush it Off though. Not sure I'd recommend Evasion over Expose…
  • Ah hah. I'd definitely recommend Force Geyser for that. Updraft would work too, but I really like Force Geyser for the short cooldown to fuel MSA. And using Cleave for Enrage building makes perfect sense. May have to include that on someone...
  • There's a few ranged knocks. Force obviously (Geyser, Eruption, Cascade among others), Updraft in Wind, Shotgun as mentioned, Torrent of Arrows, Shuriken Throw, the various chain powers ... Although knocks and Night Warrior seems like an unusual combination. However, I made a speedster level 40 retcon build that uses…
  • Here's one possibility... PowerHouse (Link to this build) Name: Claw Archer Archetype: Freeform Super Stats: Level 6: Dexterity (Primary) Level 10: Intelligence (Secondary) Level 15: Constitution (Secondary) Talents: Level 1: The Specialist Level 6: Acrobat Level 9: Coordinated Level 12: Healthy Mind Level 15: Amazing…
  • As far as stats go... I'm not sure. I don't bother generally to max out my mods, typically, I use R4 or R5 if I have them. I have yet to spend a lot of G on mods. I do sometimes buy lockboxes, mostly with my LTS zen stipend, so I have a few stacks of some mods, and 40s tend to collect them through regular play (Unity…
  • 55% is just an odd number is all, and I still think the dodge curve is too low in any case.
  • Actually - speaking of predictability? What if Gamblers gems just gave a flat 2% dodge from each rank? So R1 = 2%, R4 = 8%, R5 = 10%, R9 = 18%? It gets a LOT more predictable how much you're using with each rank than the various curved "ratings". Rating hides things in translation, but we have posters like ayonachan who…
  • Yeah - I think Dodge is still a bit low with the current curve, at least when you're not stacking extra powers. And maybe Avoidance is slightly too high. Hear me out. R5 Gamblers in Heroic Avoidance gear - my 40s have ~18% dodge, and 55% avoidance on PTS. Live, that's about 38% dodge I believe, and 58% avoid. So avoid was…
  • For soloing, my damage taken on my Way of the Warrior character with Energy Shield / Laser Knight went down significantly, pre-level 40 gear. I take noticeably more damage with it off. It's like a 33% damage reduction by itself. TEM... on PTS, gives a flat 4% dodge now. It's kind of like why some suggest - and I tend to…
  • Let's see. 1) At 40 - Con is probably better. For leveling, I'd say stick with Int. Kinda depends on what you're trying to do, I suppose. 2) Tempest. You have primary stated Dex. Reaper's Caress is only so-so at building bleeds. I've tried that and realized that Shred (particularly with an Enrage source) is far, far…
  • Not in my experience. I have a pet build with Sentinel Mastery, Aura of Ebon Destruction, and IDF. Heals, damage, and resistance. Controls are Thunderclap and Ego Sleep. A tap of Ego Sleep against Super Villains and above - you get the Fear debuff, you get the Vulnerability/Wither effect... but no sleep. Eh shrug, says I -…
  • 1. Yes. 2. As far as I know, yes, you'll get the damage debuff even when mobs won't cower. 3. Yes. And Vulnerability in the Presence tree.
  • Hmm. On the face of it - changing the passives to flat percents is easier to predict, both from the player and the dev side, than the odd DR for dodge rating. I do wonder now if the dodge curve for gear is too extreme. Seems like the Gambler's Gem took a huge hit and the one that provides defense is now far, far more…
  • I think the alert changes make sense. 10 for xp, 15 for burst, 20 for resources. 40s will switch from nearly all-grab-all-the-time, to all-smash-all-the-time. That makes WAY more sense, since timed mission failures in Smash alerts can be VERY annoying indeed. And 2 minutes is plenty of time for 40s (and 20+).
  • Yeah. I'm willing to admit that I try to wring every bit of utility I can out of every max level build, while not necessarily caring about having super-amazing gear. I use R4 or R5 if I have it, Heroic Gear for my 40s. Of ... maybe 10 ... 40s, I think two have one piece of Vigilante gear each. No Legion gear that is…
  • I for one think Monsterdaddy's suggestion has some merit. Don't ruin powers - lower the additional benefits from gear. But maybe not quite so much. 4% dodge for a R4 or R5 lucky gem? Seems kinda low. Personally.
  • So I recently redid a speedster into a dual-passive tank build. I ended up going with Unstoppable / Regen, with Enraged and Circle of Arcane Power. I get decent energy bursts from knock. Rising Knee and Dragon Uppercut for knocks, and One Hundred Hands and Burning Chi Fist for some additional flavor. I can do some things…
  • Well, the best AOE ranged bleed applier I'm aware of is, of all things, SMG with the advantage. I think one of the cyclone attacks does too, but I haven't compared them. So I might dump either VB or Fury of the dragon for it. It's pretty helpful for mowing down annoying minions, too, although so is Venomous Breath. Aspect…
  • Okay, fair enough. Thing is, you're *not* required to take powers x, y, and z to tank. You can range-tank, melee-tank, or whatever else you want. One of my poison characters is a Con / Int / I forget with Defiance and Ice Form. Crippling challenge is on the lunge, challenging strikes on Thunderclap. She tanks just fine.…
  • I find that not that surprising actually. Rimefire's special properties seem mostly meant for minion-mashing. Given the 30-foot AOE and all. I wouldn't really expect it to be a fantastic spiker compared to some other powers. But better than nothing at all...
  • Well, actually... ... tanking without endgame gear can be an exercise in frustration. Particularly in alerts, or so I've found. In point of fact, CO has multiple sources of threat: straight-up taunts (Crippling Challenge, Challenging Strikes); healing (! yeah, CoX didn't but a lot of games do), and ... ... wait for it...…
  • Huh. I totally misread that yesterday. IE = implosion engine. I read that as "i.e. can't crit" for some reason. Never mind! ... Well, yes, occasionally I do need to use an energy builder. Sometimes I toss on the advantage if it makes sense. I guess I would say it as - your DPS is hurt if you use it too frequently, because…
  • I put it on a mostly-Ice build. Ended up taking Ice Blast , Avalanche, Fire Snake, and Flashfire, with Ice Form as a passive. I treat the 30 foot radius + free cooldown as free damage, when I can get it, and I watch the target's buff bar pretty carefully when I'm on that character. I like it, depending on the team makeup,…
  • Build looks good! I still think you should ditch Despondency, though, if you use Force Geyser regularly to proc MSA, you will not need to use your energy builder. And fully charged Shadow Bolt is a guaranteed Fear. Ranking up EB's is never recommended. Ideally, you will only use it in an emergency. 1) Hmm. There are some…
  • This recurring problem is NOT making me a happy camper.
  • That's... a much better build. Although Supercooled, rather than Rank 3, might do you more bang for the buck. You've got more dodge, a reliable way to apply Chill, which helps with Shatter (you CAN use Shatter on Chilled targets and get some pretty good damage). I will mention though, that on my ice char, I tried Frost…
  • Hmm. First, yes, I'd strongly recommend Sentinel - it helps build Compassion stacks much faster, especially with pets. Second - you have Presence Mastery but no bubbles. That seems like a waste of 1/2 of Presence mastery's capability. Your sources of fear are Shadow Bolt (sometimes), Shadow Embrace (sometimes), and…
  • Well... that may work. Is that a 40 retcon build or a leveling build? Feedback the first: Reconstruction Circuits will lock out all your other powers, as it is a Powered Armor toggle power. I wouldn't recommend it. Or at least, try before you buy and check out the effects in the Battle Station. Feedback the second: you…
  • $.02 - pretty solid. Couple things - you do NOT need to rank up Concentration. You should get 8 stacks from maintains of 2GM (which provides it even if you don't HAVE concentration) and Lead Tempest. 4 points saved. Don't ever bother with accelerate metabolism. 2 points saved, I'd throw on the advantage for Lock & Load.…
  • 1) Well, Force Geyser is single-target, and it isn't exactly large DPS. BUT since on lesser mobs it will pop them up, another ranged power will typically take them out, and you aren't bothered by them. I mostly just use it on some characters to proc MSA, more than anything else. And "pop and drop" can be kinda fun. Had it…
  • Hmm. I guess that's what my pure-dark character has been missing... a true guaranteed fear. I think I will try Shadow Blast after all. Then again... he's got Dark Transfusion. That powers him quite well anyway but a little more guaranteed fear would help. He doesn't have Void Shift as he's a ranged guy. In my experience:…
  • Let's see. 1) Yes, it certainly is. BUT I tend to only take one minion-munching cone AOE on any given character. However, if you ditched Spirit Reverb, I'd take Skarn's to rank 3 and get rid of Shadow Embrace. No occasional fear / knockdown from Skarns, but taking away annoying buffs (Lightning Reflexes, and yes, nerfing…
  • Personally... IMO, you don't really need both Shadow Embrace and Skarn's Bane, since they are both cone maintains - pick one and keep that one - and Spirit Reverb leans at ditching Skarns. Also, while you are undoubtedly highly survivable, your use of IDF with a defensive passive means you are probably not doing very much…
  • I was fine all day, until I took a dinner break. After 9 pm EST, the disconnects and inability to do ... anything... really, made it rather frustrating. It would be good if it was limited to Millenium City, but of course, that's where I left most of my characters, to tag the party stuff and get 2XP. Getting OUT of…
