Cosmic Knight Preview

Champions, it’s an honor to announce that we’re going to be releasing the Cosmic Knight costume set, concept originally by fellow player @Mee_da_CThunist!

This player-submitted set was part of our Design-a-Costume contest in April, and the Champions Online team made it real. The original plan was just to build one costume set from the contest, but even though this was a runner-up, we knew we had to make it.

Read more in the blog, and our thanks go out to @Mee_da_CThunist for submitting this awesome costume set!

It's a good looking set, not the one I voted for, but without a doubt the best designed one. I can see myself buying this set.

    Nice! Gratz, Meeda!

(Now I just need to figure out a way to hoard and activate 4 max-sized bags of Giant Growth devices...)
Choose your enemies carefully, because they will define you / Make them interesting, because in some ways they will mind you
They're not there in the beginning, but when your story ends / Gonna last with you longer than your friends

    Wow that's cool.

It reminds me of classics like Marvel's The Eternals & DC's New God's. My favorite comic book era actually.

Very sweet... I wonder if this means - MOHR SPACE CONTENT!

    Congrats M!

This one would be trickier. There are a number of pieces that go into making the Variable Robot more difficult, primarily figuring out any shape-changing tech and walking the legal line of homage. Maybe someday, it's a very cool idea, LordGar and I both liked it.

Transformation technology is actually the simplest part.

If you look at CGI movies and games containing transformable robots, their transformation scheme is totally made up.
It's as fake as our transformations into vehicles but with fixed intermediary animation.

Still not very needed, though. Players can just click vehicle device and be done with it.

The line between the homage and the infringement is the hard part.
The only way of avoiding it would be to made clear costume parts are borrowed from CO vehicles and look only like lifted from CO vehicles.

Which kinda confines this set as being really usable only if you own a vehicle.

As much as I liked drawing it, it's a fringe idea.

Something that could be bundled with vehicle sales, but does not necessarily makes for a good Z-Store set.

Taken as *individual* pieces, most of the ones in that proposed set (other then the front and back windshield torso pieces) could be easily worked into all sorts of mecha/robot/exo armor designs without any transformer/vehicle concept involved. Only using the bulk of the set at once really locks its concept down.

I'll keep hoping it shows up. :)

Trailturtle, a lot of us are using characters that utilize weapons in some form or another. The last weapons in CO have ALL been Lockbox'd. Considering weapons were actually REMOVED from the game during On-Alert, I think many players would like to see an opportunity to purchase new ones (as well as some of the old ones).

Can you please bring it up to the guys that it would be a good time to see a ranged/melee/combo weapons pack?

Heck, they should release a ranged pack, a melee pack and a combo pack, right about the time they release the pole arm/staff mini-power set

    OFF topic, but maybe not.

TT I've wanted to suggest this for a long time. Sell mohr weapon skins. People are clamoring for this (well it seems like they are). And it adds a layer of customization without much tech work.

But I think weapon packs in various styles, might be a hit. Just base them on some of the costume packs like this one (Cosmic, Holo, Psi, etc..).

You know DCUO does this and even with what liitle I play the game I've still picked up the packs. Seems like an easy no brainer to me.

Yah they do.. I haven't played it years though..

IMHO every costume set should have a corresponding weapons pack, with a skin for all the weapons including ranged. I dunno, I think people would go for it. Andy maybe this costume set would be an interesting time to experiment with the idea.

Why not have Cosmic Knight themed weapons (melee and ranged) so that as many power-sets can benefit as possible?

Will it include the weapons skins also? (I really hope so because the energy sword is awesome). If not can you guys make these three weapons a weapons pack that we can buy for Zen?

I would pay 1000+ zen for these three. or even 500-1000 zen for each individual weapon skin. But please elongate the energy "blade"of the swords as show below if you decide to create and sell this set (Please. please, please)

I purchase quite a bit of Zen just for this kind of stuff. Looks like I'll be down a few more hundred Zen. Awesome looking set. PLEASE either a) include the weapon skins, or b) release these and others in a separate pack! Don't you want the rest of my Zen??? :frown:

Oh, I hope the floating mask cuts around the ears like in the player concept drawing. The CO concept looks like it included the ears, which to me, lowers the concept and aesthetics. Becides, what does a cosmic being with an energy head need with ears that aren't actually ears??? Think about it.

Just checked this set out on PTS. It is AWESOME!! Needs a few tweaks (remove eyes from Headcap, add the 4th color, add glow options) but, DANG!!!This is a sweet set! Good Job devs and especially the CO Player who submitted it.

Back on topic, I checked out the costume set on the PTS. It is amazing, and I love it! My only issue is, why tease us with the weapons concept then tell use you're not going to make them? That's just cruel! Those weapons look amazing, and that sword is the missing piece to one of my character's concepts.

It's not the first time. Remember when we got concept art for a Heavy Weapons pack? Some of the stuff even made it into the game. I still want my Guitar Axe, though...

I will explain frustration to you.

Sci-Fi soldier costume set doesn't include one of the first things that comes to mind when you say 'Soldier', and that was a weapon. A rifle? Sword? Pistol? Nope.

Every single weapon that has been released since On-Alert except for TWO (The wizard staff and the Samurai Tech Sword) has been in a lockbox (Clockwork Rifle, Steel Shadow Sword, Foxbat Fish, Foxbat Ping-Pong gun) or a drop (Fire Axe, Wrench).

Weapons are SEVERELY neglected in this game, and they are the ONE thing that has been removed from this game and never returned. Hell, the last new pistol we got was a clown-shoes joke.

Since the powersets came into the game, we have not seen ANY claws or Ego weapons. Another abandoned and neglected idea in CO, among others.

Energy sword powerset was updated, and yet we still can't manage to get but ONE model for that and it's probably the most boring design someone could come up with.

Not everyone that uses weapons-based characters wants to be a swordsman. Not everyone wants their weapons to be a cheap chuckle.

Please fix this, Cryptic. I'm really happy with 99% of everything you've been doing so far. This is that 1% that just irks me.

We have PLENTY of melee sword weapons, so after this could you just, you know, STOP until we get some Ego, Claws, and Pistols?

I'm really sorry, I love you guys... I hate to sound like a jerk, but if we can get a new vehicle every 3 months we can get weapons.

I just want to pop in and say THANK YOU, to both the Champions Online Costuming Developers and @Mee_da_CThunist for this set.

You have no idea how timely this set is for portraying something I have in mind...and which needs to be a reality pretty soon.

    I cannot even...omg.

I will say however... echoing the sentiments expressed by one or two in this thread already...

I'd like to see some weapon options come to CO. Forearm energy blades, claws, Ego/Psionic Weaponry etc. Would be very welcome additions/upgrades to the weapon models we have in game.

Overall this looks like a nice addition!

(If taking ideas is something that could become a thing...I'd suggest looking at Heroic Fashion/Oracle sets as shown by Spordelia. (Link is in my sig). I know I really enjoyed looking at the set as well as others. Also...hair options!)

Transformers doesn't have a monopoly on transforming robots. As long as you're not selling transforming action figures that look like their IP characters alongside theirs in stores, they really don't give a damn.

I'm looking at that second set of tights along with the scepter weapon. We already have chest piece that would work and for the head we could use the king sekhem head piece colored to look like a hood along with the crest bladed and I think you could make a fairly good Big Barda clone.

Most people don't know the new gods stuff from DC though, it's why you often see people call Darkseid a Thanos clone, so you're probably right, we will see more galactus clones.
