On the road to recovery

deadman20deadman20 Posts: 1,529 Arc User
I was unable to report this at any time beforehand, but I was admitted the hospital due to a spontaneous pneumo-thorax collapse my left lung suffered on August 18th. I am now announcing that I am no longer in a critical state and now waiting for the day these tubes are no longer needed in my chest cavity.

I've been granted a laptop to continue my adventures with you guys until my eventual complete recovery. I hope to see you all mean well to each other and keep fighting the good fights as heroes should.

Hope to see some of you in-game before one of my own heroes makes a critical demise of his or her own!

Jeebus, dude, you're not supposed to take your forum handle that seriously!

Listen to the doctors, try to add a Regeneration passive to your build in the so-called Real World, and we'll see you around Mill City!

Listen, every week or so I go to the nearest public bathroom and lick the floor, builds up my immune system. I've never been sick. Drink some whiskey, swallow some tobacco spit, and do some push-ups. You'll be fine.

Yeah jonsills is spot on on the first bit.

No ****, I had a partial collapse of my right lung about 2 months ago. It hurts, I feel your pain. That's about the most terrifying sensation I've ever experienced, and I fell 50ish feet and broke all of my ribs in a rock climbing accident. The lung hurt worse.

It's a pretty disconcerting feeling to be blown up like a balloon, huh? I hope you feel better, dude.

Actually, you can live quite a long time with that condition. It's not terribly pleasant, I understand, but SF author Spider Robinson, for instance, has been subject to occasional pneumothorax collapses since the mid-'70s sometime (when he finally got to meet Jeanne, the woman he would one day marry, his first words to her in person were, "My lung has collapsed. I need to get to a hospital immediately"). And he's 64 now. (And yes, Spider, we still need you and we'll still feed you... :) ).

He also afflicted his viewpoint character in the novel Very Bad Deaths with it, probably to give him an excuse to describe the sensations in vivid detail.

As much as I'm sure yall thought I was in the clear, the sad news is I have failed the X-Ray checkup and am being shoved back into the hospital. This time for the OTHER lung.

So close... yet so far! Hopefully I won't be staying around here as long as I did last time. On the bright side I get some morphine to help get me through the next few days.

    Better luck next time!

Also, yay for getting a new wired mouse, the wireless one we had proved to be counterproductive.

Okay, so I've got something that I can't consider good or bad news yet. If the next X-Ray shows something, I'm getting one of my tubes removed early because of some swelling. If it looks good and I stay healthy it gets to stay out. If not then I have to go through the procedure to put another one back in its place.

The removal of the tube isn't the most comfortable thing this early, but progress is progress I suppose.

I can gladly inform you that they were awesome.

Got one tube removed now and it seems like I could be out (again) by Thursday. So far everything's checking out well and I've finally gotten a sleeping aid instead of putting some morphine in to take a quick nap. Feels much better.

Too bad I'm physically useless now. Can't lift more than 10 pounds without someone yelling at me not to push myself. Moms.

For me the only painful part about it is the removal of the bandages covering them, but yes they're Chest Tubes. Just don't get me started on how the hole feels afterward.
