There is nothing I can say about the issues talked about in the article that has already been said by me and other players hundreds of times on the forums that can make a difference anymore.
Especially since they never made a difference in the first place.
I just want this article to be more publicized so we can get an actual response from an actual developer that works on the game, ( no offense trailturtle, but you're just community rep ).
Got to agree with most of the Article. Many good points are made. I do disagree just a bit about the Traits. They are a really good way to tweak a toon.
Although, I think I have truly found the solution to all of the hard feelings. I spent some quality time in Neverwinter and its' Forums. Suddenly Champs doesn't seem so bad.

Yeah... opening comments are pretty damning. I see the link on one of the posts is to the compilation post (#17 I believe) on that 'Ask Cryptic Answers' thread where I compiled all of your ignored questions.
Like others have mentioned, there is literally nothing more that can be said when Cryptic-Studios act like they have been.
Interestingly Massively.com no longer get much communication from Cryptic-Studios, I believe their mutual channels of communication have been dried up for some time.
Its all an unnecessary shame and great pity - Champions-Online could of been a fantastic MMO with all that Hero Games Champions content. If only Cryptic would listen to and appreciate the Champions-Online playerbase.
But, little sympathy for them any more I'm afraid.

The game needs a complete rework with fresh marketing.
You could make a million changes to the game but if you sell people the same old label that they walked away from in indifference, they won't buy any of the updates.
We can see this in all the 'new content'.

I wouldn't say that. They've interviewed Andy Velasquez, Dan Stahl, and  Tom Edwards in the past month. Of course, Tom's half-assed "answers" were what sent Eliot down the "What's wrong with CO?" path he's been on ever since.

Certainly we haven't done much press outreach, but I think we all know that there hasn't been a lot to reach out about. We've looked at the Races and a few other pieces of content, and ultimately we decided that they didn't have enough meat to really reach out about.
Whenever we have something we really want to brag about, trust me, we'll do it. We're always making sure that content gets publicity according to its scope.
1) Regulation - Balance passes bring back customers
2) Monetization - New systems make $ from existing and returning customers
3) Creation - Adding content keeps Customers
These need to be done under the banner of a "all new game". I like "World of Champions"

not to sound negitve, but there hasnt been anything to brag about this game in a very long time. the only time there was when vibora bay launched.
what i would like to know (i know you willo never answer my questions or concerns.) why hasnt jack or anyone from upper management even tried to come in here. to even ease our concerns about this game, and why we have been consentily been put on the back burner with actual content and the foundery. its time to be honest with us.
dont you think we desirve atleast that much?

Releasing the same game under a different more popular sounding name with more limitations to game play and character creation is deception at its finest. That's why we have STO and NWO.
What this game needs is a studio that won't ruin the chance at expanding its horizons by blowing the money it makes on an unrelated project. The FtP launch numbers being the prime example.
not to sound negitve, but there hasnt been anything to brag about this game in a very long time. the only time there was when vibora bay launched.
So Resistance, Aftershock, Whiteout, and the immediate On Alert Launch means nothing? (excluding the decimation of PvP and not following up on the new system thanks to PWE's order to delay NWO's release for a year to change it into a PW kind of g̶a̶m̶e̶ bore fest.)

We've known the answers to that since Whiteout's "failure".

If EA can do it every year why can't Cryptic do it once. World of Champions is like City of ********. Frankly if they beat "Heroes and Villains" to the punch they make alot of money by locking out a competitor.
Frankly, the F2P model doesn't work right now for the game. The best parts of the game are locked behind subscription, and there's no way to balance ATs to get on par with Freeforms.
So offer the game you created but make cash choices more attractive.

I realise its a case (from Cryptic-Studio's point of view) that its a case of 'no news' and no press communication because there has been so little development - but WHY has there been so little development?, - I think everyone reads between the lines here Trailturtle and realises this anyway.
The fact that when Cryptic did reach out for communication with your playerbase with the last 'Ask Cryptic' - fifty people asked the same roundabout question and Cryptic-Studios completely blanked them.
Take a look at that linked post (#17) on that 'Ask Cryptic Answers' thread where I compiled this community's ignored questions - we were all asking the same thing and Cryptic couldn't see fit to give us an answer. Have you any idea how damaging that is to your community?, how revealing that is to all the MMO press that have read it?.
Seriously Cryptic, this community is withering, the game is dying and your reputation is being badly tarnished with your neglect of Champions-Online - and PWE/Cryptic are still neither communicating with the community nor even alluding whether or not you are going to put any effort and investment into the title to save this game.
If the executive team there at Cryptic (not the Devs, the PWE/Cryptic executive team) are not aware of just how bad things are (and I honestly don't know how they can not be) but if they are unaware and how badly a game being left to rot reflects on the company as a whole, I sincerely hope Trailturtle that you forward some emails up to Jack Emmert and Co and make them aware of it.

As much as i like the fact that CO's problem is given some light, Most people don't know about what problems it has, I really want for the status of CO to be something discussed across games, as long as nobody except the players know about it, Cryptic doesn't get bad publicity and can keep doing as they want.
This game needs a real expansion. Not an event, not a bunch of race rings, an expansion!
We need more content, new zones, more content, new powers, more content, more costume options, more content, phasing environments and more content. After you level your first character to 40 you have to run Alerts or the same missions over again. And I know that you get to pick the desert or Canada at 15, but as a lifer, I?ve already done those as well.
But as has been stated here so very often, all we get is no response from the devs or worse, new and different lock boxes.
Doesn't make what I said any less true. Topics fly by like crazy. Would not want to be a moderator over there.
Your post that I quoted didnt say anything about moderation, you said there were "too many people over there". And my response is there is no such thing as "too many people", for the reasons I mentioned in my previous post. Champions is currently suffering because it has too few people. I'll happily take the alternative. If you want to talk about moderation thats fine, but I was just replying to what you actually said, not what you didnt say.

don't you think we deserve at least that much?
seconded, i am really sick and tired of the beating around the bush this game hasn't had anything good added to it since vibora.
i think its time to come clean, or ship out and be done with it, get someone from upper management here to tell us what is going on with this game.
because if they don't and are too cowardly to at LEAST be honest with us, then its pretty much a given that the game is doomed to fail
Do you know what my biggest problem is? I have no alternative. CO is THE best online game I've ever known, even with all the **** hitting the fan until now. STO? Boring beyond reason, and I never liked Star Trek to begin with. NWO? Unsolid game probably loaded with bugs, I have no desire whatsoever to try it. WoW? Lame old news. I don't need no pandas, I'm quite happy with Po and the Furious Five, thank you very much. Lineage? Don't even get me started on this ridiculously long and utterly boring grind-drag.
My point here is, if I want to be a part of some online comunity, I have nowhere else to go. And I don't want to go, I liked it here before PWE took over. Give me back my game, you corporate leeches!

Not the publishers fault bro, like I said in another thread, you can rage at iTunes all you wan't deadmau5 still writes the songs.
So its in Cryptics hands to develop the things we need, PWE has a dev team in china, but thats it, that chinese dev team doesn't have any say so over what gets put into Champions, so if it seems like your favorite band has been slow with releasing albums blame the band not wal-mart.
You get my point, in this context details are irrelevant. Fact of the matter something is wrong and noone who CAN actually do something about it is doing anything. Am I wrong, Cryptic? Are you actually doing something besides emergency life support when CO's pulse flattens? And don't give me that old excuse about STO and NWO, it's about time you put some effort where it's actually needed. Launching 3 games on one server was a bad idea to begin with, until NWO I can't remember one time I had lags, and now lag has become my loyal companion. Thanks a lot, Cryptic...

Isn't PWE based in California (not too terribly far from Cryptic as I recall) ?
And, Walmart doesn't own the band as PWE does Cryptic. We have been told by Cryptic employees that they had to ask PWE about the possibility of making modifications to aspects of Cryptic's games.
Cryptic did not intend for NWO to be an MMO, PWE directed its release be delayed so that it might be made so.
Ultimately PWE owns Cryptic and Cryptic's games completely. PWE has absolute say over what goes into Cryptic's games. They may not choose to exercise their prerogative at all times, but it is their decision and their say.
PWE are the ones with power of forcing Cryptic to act.
Now, it's pretty obvious that other PWE titles have more active developers but if Cryptic is not as active as other PWE underlings, it's up to PWE to force such change.
If PWE doesn't care then Cryptic management will not start to care of their own as well.
This is the first CO related article on Massively that I can think of that didn't cause me to roll my eyes from all the inaccuracies and untruths. That said, I agree with 99% of it.
My kingdom, first born, maiden bride, and both testicles for MATT MILLER!!! He was Jesus over at CoH after Jack left just before turning that game into... well, this one. I know that's simply wistful due to their history, but, man, what a wonderful world it would be.
You know, I decided to try something different, so I started a toon and I'm playing without any recourse to alerts--just pure missions, story arcs and such--and I'm really enjoying it. I find myself dreading the day that I hit 40 and get gear.
I used to while away (that is the original and grammatically correct phrase) the time in CoH after I hit 50 plus IO's and Incarnate powers soloing simple 4/8 set radio missions and Astoria arcs because of two things--the stories were good and I had to know what I was doing and would die if I messed up--not only if I stopped fighting back and was patient enough.
If I saw someone doing to a puppy what they are doing to this game, I wouldn't stop punching till they put me in jail.

You're mistaking "publisher" with "distributor." iTunes is a distributor of published works.
PWE does call the shots, or at least that's what I believe. I'm very skeptical that PWE just bought Cryptic and left them to remain autonomous. If that were the case, they wouldn't have delayed Neverwinter for a year after the acquisition. That was a PWE move.
And there you have it, ladies and gentelmen, the ones who brought a big dissapoint to many of our faces. If someone forgot to bring rotten eggs, I have plenty to go around. Feel free to grab some and "put" them where they belong.

I swear I would sell my blood to help fund a kick-start for Posi to start his own company as long as he promised to keep a Superhero mmo as one of his major projects at all times.
Or...
Jack could just get his head out of his butt and hire Matt to head up the new CO team and then sit back and enjoy the success of ONE OF THE OLDEST AND MOST VENERABLE IP'S THAT SHOULD NOT BE TREATED LIKE THIS!!!
I played D&D and Champions growing up, and I would like 5 minutes--just 5 minutes--to sit across a campaign table from Jack and look him in the eye and say "Champions... CHAMPIONS!?! After all of those hours of joy being able to BE your own superhero because of THIS GAME, you chose to throw CHAMPIONS to the wolves?!?"

You know, the only thing I can put it down to is complete and terminal lack of enthusiasm for the superhero MMO genre by Cryptic-Studios - the very genre that made their studio's fortunes.
How can you have the good fortune to be in the position of hiring the guy responsible for running and evolving the most successful Superhero MMO of all time - and fail to assign him to turn-around their ailing Champions-Online!?..... i don't even....

Better the devil you know than the one you dont, at this stage id be happy if EA steamrolled over this game and planted its Origin Malls and theme parks all over it.
I would finally take the plunge and download that Origin and spyware of theirs, than continue with PWE/Cryptic doing what theyre doing now...if it means someone....ANYONE with the ability to update this game would come and do so.
As far as I understood the article: Make events actually influence the game world, add Foundry, and... did this guy really say that Talents shouldn't be since we already have Super Stats and that another revamp of the stat system would draw players back to the game!?

The guy does think being able to choose 8 powers and what rank they are going to be is a bit too much for character customization. Or he doesn't understand how simple specializations are.

UGC Campaign: The Coldblooded Scrolls
We need more content, new zones, more content, new powers, more content, more costume options, more content, phasing environments and more content. After you level your first character to 40 you have to run Alerts or the same missions over again. And I know that you get to pick the desert or Canada at 15, but as a lifer, I?ve already done those as well.
But as has been stated here so very often, all we get is no response from the devs or worse, new and different lock boxes.
Lots of people = lots of money = real development. Id say a crowded forum is worth a game getting actual content.
If Neverwinter has Cryptic's A team ...
And they're in the midst of a "no-wipe" beta with some lulzy bad exploits gone horribly public ...
What do you think would happen if Cryptic unleashed its C team over here?
Doesn't make what I said any less true. Topics fly by like crazy. Would not want to be a moderator over there.
Your post that I quoted didnt say anything about moderation, you said there were "too many people over there". And my response is there is no such thing as "too many people", for the reasons I mentioned in my previous post. Champions is currently suffering because it has too few people. I'll happily take the alternative. If you want to talk about moderation thats fine, but I was just replying to what you actually said, not what you didnt say.
Cryptic only has two teams. NWO and STO teams. Yeah. Meta.
seconded, i am really sick and tired of the beating around the bush this game hasn't had anything good added to it since vibora.
i think its time to come clean, or ship out and be done with it, get someone from upper management here to tell us what is going on with this game.
because if they don't and are too cowardly to at LEAST be honest with us, then its pretty much a given that the game is doomed to fail

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
'Caine, miss you bud. Fly high.
Now, it's pretty obvious that other PWE titles have more active developers but if Cryptic is not as active as other PWE underlings, it's up to PWE to force such change.
If PWE doesn't care then Cryptic management will not start to care of their own as well.
There are easy ways to improve this game if they were willing to put Devs here and do some work.
FOUNDRY/BUGS/COSTUMES/POWERS/ZONES-all but one they could even charge for.

Posi actually just finished up some freelance work on the Klingon Tutorial to go along with the Romulan expansion on STO.
Part of the problem since December, 2012.
All right, guys, we need a crack commando team to travel to San Jose, break into Cryptic HQ, kidnap Positron from the STO team, and escort him to CO stat. Who's in?

And I'm afraid he'd say, "yep, that's the biz."
You know, the only thing I can put it down to is complete and terminal lack of enthusiasm for the superhero MMO genre by Cryptic-Studios - the very genre that made their studio's fortunes.
How can you have the good fortune to be in the position of hiring the guy responsible for running and evolving the most successful Superhero MMO of all time - and fail to assign him to turn-around their ailing Champions-Online!?..... i don't even....

...the ultimate Contrast Moe (or not).
I would finally take the plunge and download that Origin and spyware of theirs, than continue with PWE/Cryptic doing what theyre doing now...if it means someone....ANYONE with the ability to update this game would come and do so.
I'm sorry, I really respect the Mild-Mannered Reporter, but that last part is one of the worst suggestions I've heard so far.
The guy does think being able to choose 8 powers and what rank they are going to be is a bit too much for character customization. Or he doesn't understand how simple specializations are.
