Title of my post says it all really, I just went in with "The Winter Fairy" my small ice fairy toon and failed the race because 3 consecutive rings did not grant me a boost.

Seems to be a common complaint.

I watched about 30 gather for a race (may have been closer to 40) and all took off at the start. I moved over to the finish line to see how many made it to the end. 20 arrived at the finish line before the clock counted down, but the screen showed only 6 victors. Since I've seen as many as 10 named victors on earlier races I know that 6 is not a set limit.

Not nearly as important as complaining about everything. And snarking at people who enjoy the game, don't forget that. Top priority, extreme importance.

Well, show me this person complaining about "everything" and I'll take them to task.

As for snark. If the situation was ACTUALLY funny, it wouldn't be snark now would it?

It's a cool little event, now that most of the bugs are ironed out.

Kind of surprised CO was even able to pull it off.

Contrary to rumors, random race fails still are part of this not-so-great event :(

The fact remains that CO is working with a limited crew and it's likely this is all they can muster at the present time. If you take that same crew and put them on a more permanent content update, it would likely take minimum a year to even hit test. How would the player base react to that?

How long has it been since the last powers pass and Whiteout?

I think we're seeing how they react to that "minimum a year" now.

As far as the event being broken / being taken down goes, wouldn't it behoove the CO team to just leave this up until everything is fixed and THEN start counting the clock down to when it's taken off; That seems to be the most logical way to do it, but then again, this is the same game that is providing fairly out-of-genre add-ons (vehicles) as the easy button for well designed and built characters.

Maybe instead of locking Gladiator costume pieces behind (nearly) vehicle-exclusive races, they should've put the level 2 vehicle WEAPONS behind the race and put the Gladiator costume pieces in the Q-Store. That's also kind of logical, wouldn't you say?

No one is unhappy about new content, what's disappointing about this is that it is (A) Temporary, (B) only applicable for people who design certain toons or spend money, (C) still buggy and likely will still be pulled down at the pre-ordained time.

That being said, I'm sure no one would complain as bitterly if they fixed certain long-standing bugs or added some new content being asked for either before or after they released this. Temporary content like this should serve as a bridge to be thrown out between permanent (major) fixes and/or permanent new content or content should at least be aimed at what the players want, not more mods for a system (vehicles, again) that do not grok with player wants.

Short form: Glad to see something different - the race - wish it were for heroes with powers rather than normals with vehicles, but maybe some future content can be built for heroes with powers based on this (like racing a missile to its target or something for a hero with superspeed.) Please stop creating things for vehicles to do and try to focus on things for heroes to do, or at least fixing the things heroes are supposed to be able to do (like fixing / improving Nemeses.)

Well, dynamech, I feel a more realistic approach would have been to A) put an UNTIL hoverdisc vendor near Defender, (with an UNTIL soldier that directed the player to venture skyward and speak to Sapphire), then to also increase the time just a smidge, (like maybe 30 seconds or so), so most people can complete the race, (even if they only had a R1 flight power).

    This thing is STILL broken

I made it through all the rings in time and it failed me before the timer was up!

Here we are now going to the West Side
Weapons in hand as we go for a ride
Some may come and some may stay
Watching out for a sunny day
Where there's love and darkness and my sidearm

I'm sick of having a "Race Failed" when it still have 20 seconds before the end!! What the F*** is that??

I'm usually not a hater poster, but, what the heck is THAT?!! Are you devs looking for disguting people to play or what??

Yes, I posted the same thing in the Discussion thread, and I have not read all pages of it, neither this one's. I'm sick of just reading.

Okay, since you haven't read the other thread, you missed where I (and a few others) noted that you are also required to reach the next ring before the boost from the last one wears off. That's why I lose when I get hung up in a building - it usually takes me so long to get myself untangled, the boost wears off and I get a Race Failed.

It would be nice if that were made a tad more explicit in the race itself...

Yeah. Like if it at least said -

Race Failed! (Sorry Hero, but you need to move faster between each ring)

    Or something like that.

    (...)
I have now read it, followed the dots and all, with a classic Flight Rank2, or others Flight Rk3, or Becomes' (lvl40 so I assume it's Rk3 too), and I know it could work, but it didn't. "RACE FAILED" in the middle of the race (take that in your face!), without any logical reason, and I stopped counting the failed races (not always with the same character) today. It's not my fault when a race failed, I don't miss any circle, I even don't bump into any building or whatever!!

Don't tell me it's fixed, don't tell me there's a mean not to fail. We both (all) know well what have failed there. Even if we had such a mean, I shouldn't be obliged to use it. I shouldn't be obliged to use tricks to avoid bloody bugs!

Beside that, the vehicle oriented event don't please me. Of course I'm not obliged to participate but the carrot is quite fine (Costumes Unlocks). The race seem to be against the clock, and the best times are vehicles'. So the race is against who have better gear/items/luck. I don't like that. It's not FAIR.

I've given up on the race because no matter how I try, one of the two hairpin turns between the buildings always stops me. I guess that means I'm not good enough for the Malvans to kidnap and enslave as a gladiator. I'll just have to learn to live with that, I suppose...

    To Cryptic:

You folks had better hold off from making this event temporary until the issue has been fixed, then start the actual countdown from when the fix has been implemented.

Or better yet.... keep it there. Honestly, i see no reason why this can't just stay, consider it just like any other open mission, you know, broken and buggy.

I'd love to see the rings left up as a permanent open mission. And once a month, put Sapphire back at the starting line with a comment about the rings producing unudintified artifacts, and asking you to gather some to see if the Malvan threat is returning (2-3 days of gathering bonus Questionite boxes per month).

Nah, i'd rather they cut out sapphire, make the damn reward appear at the end of the race automatically. I don't care about questionite, but i want the damn costumes. and making an event that has several pieces that's a daily prize while also being a limited event is rather stupid considering you'd have to either be extremely lucky or farm non stop to get them all in time.

    { Begins whine }

Oooooooooooh! But a wanna get kidnapped and enslaved as a gladiator. It's not fair.

    { throes self on floor and kicks, flails about and screams at top of lungs }

But seriously, I should ask my niece to help me with this. She loves flying/racing games like this. One of her current favs is...

Dragon Riders of Berk - Wild Skies

    http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/dragons/index.html

I now she's got the hand/eye coordination skills that I lack.

Hmm.. Didn't Spyro have tasks like this? My wife was pretty good at that game? Perhaps she could help me with this, too.

everyone has this race idea wrong.

they are not interested in kidnapping superheros, they want to carjack the best Vehicles for their next arena.

Gladiators, are NOTORIOUSLY, ground based by nature... *looks at Ironclad* no offense.

so they are obviously just trying to find good Vehicles for their Gladiators to use in the next arena.

That'd be hilarious... the rings are actually extremely powerful scanners, and the Malvans have a really high-end 3D printer back at their base - every time someone completes the race with a good time, they pump out a few hundred mind-controlled copies back on their end.

    Bat Flight.

    Yeah, it looks awesome.

No, it doesn't count as actual flight in this race - NO boosts, even through the proffered "back up and go through again" from the devs.

Thanks, Cryptic, for not testing an event prior to it going live...or is "live" the new beta test stage?

Wait... Did you just pull a J.J. Abrams? Are you reading player post and using player ideas for story content?
