That's because they know they can get away with that sort of nonsensical rhetoric here.
You know we're content starved when a discussion about "we need more content" gets derailed because some idiots want to split hairs about what is and isn't content. I'm waiting for a new brand of crazy to pop up and ask that question in a more philosophical manner: "What IS content?". /soulsearching
If there is content and no one knows, is it really there?
This kind of nonsense doesn't work on other forums, yet it works here.
People who try to redefine the concept, trying too assert that the word has multiple meanings, are rightfully pilloried as being fing nuts on other forums, and in virtually every other media piece produced*edit for very good reason.

And sad attempts at public shaming and name-calling is a good way to stop these kind of things, right? Do people really think this kind of thing works? Has it ever worked?

People argue about what is and is not "content" for much the same reasons as why people argue over what is and is not "art". And we've been doing that for a very long time indeed.

If all you got from my post is that I'm "publicly shaming and name-calling" then you missed my point entirely.

Possibly. I haven't had my coffee yet. I think we should have a thread where we throw out specific ideas. Yeah we have a section for it, but ideas we REALLY want to see done. "New Zone" or "new content" seems too general. We may end up with another Lemuria. As innovative as it was, it doesn't seem popular. There's never anyone there.

My definition for content in a game "The stuff I play the game for", I play different games for different stuff. But CO is not putting out the stuff I play games for right now.

When people say new zone (based on the history of these forums since we've been content starved) they are generally mean we need new leveling paths, so that it's not just the same path of zones to level as it has been for the past year+.
If there had never been a COH there would never have been a CO.
Because there's no reason to go by the in context meaning established by the type of game you're discussing and it's best to go by the literal meaning. What's with people posting dictionary entries recently? No one cares, and it kind of makes you look like a douche.
Stuff that even subscribers have to pay for (vehicles, costumes, premium travel powers, etc) are not content. They're fluff. If you argue otherwise, you're wrong.
It's not that you have a different opinion on what content is or anything like that. You're just wrong.

First... It makes me look like a *****, which I am, thank you very much.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that post will not be getting the "Epic Win" from the judges. Pretty sure its in the running for the *implied facepalm* award.
You know, when I discuss things with the rather erudite folks over at SJ Games' forums, one of the first things we do is hash out exactly what the terms we're using mean. Otherwise, Smurf and EJ would never be able to discuss the relative values of communism and anarchocapitalism, because each would be using different definitions of the terms (Smurf's a devout socialist, and doesn't believe the USSR was "really properly Communist", for instance.)
In other forums, it's not uncommon to have a brief period during which we sort out what some terms mean to each person involved. This is one of the few in which someone has gone relatively unchallenged after making an assertion like "everyone knows what this means" - particularly when the discussion to that point demonstrated clearly that while everyone knew what they meant, the meaning was quite idiosyncratic.
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"

Let's nail down a definition so we can stop arguing about what it means.
Is content:
A) Anything that is a part of the game, no matter how large or small.
Anything that you can participate in, such as alerts, missions, zones, and lairs. Not costume packs, vehicles, and other non-participatory items.
C) Zones, missions, and lairs only. Alerts are not content, and neither are vehicles etc. D) Only stuff I want is content, everything else is garbage.
So ya... vote.. discuss... do what ya do. Disclaimer: I'm not sure... but I think this may be an excersize in irony. Guess that's up to the responses lol.
I'd say sort of B. I call content something with replay value. (yes even that half assed carrier mission) Cash Shop updates do not count, but I surely would welcome more costume packs, hairstyles and similar things to create even more alts or nemesis (if the nemesis missions worked).
Vehicles are far from content, that on any other game would be called a Gimmick by everyone covering the "news". Yeah Massively you do a poor job sometimes.
