After a few weeks you can easily have a level 40 characters in full heroic gear with r6 mods. And if you want you can just buy a vehicle in the AH for a few hundred globals, which is also well without reach for everyone. Having an event for the few hours a new character is lower than level 20 seems a little silly to me. And it doesn't even matter what newer players can or can not do when you have a level 40 player with epidemic or lead tempest nearby that kills zombies in two damage ticks (that is 5 zombies per second), and that can pretty much infinitely spam their attack and kill everything nearby without having to pay attention.
Is there any precedence for events in MC being made specifically for the level of the surrounding content? The ones I can think of, using a low level character the best to hope for is skull level targets, and the worst is a level 60 boss fight. And I don't see why designing an event should try to be balanced for the very weakest builds and inexperienced players you can find. Performance of our characters has on average been increased over the years, so making an old event more challenging seems like a complete reasonable thing to ask for to me.
When I started playing with a Blade AT it took me months to get to 40. I just had regular blue 2-slot gear and R5s. Not sure if I was typical of people using AT (or now using them), but Bloodmoon was something I shied away from.
I would like to see OV's completely disabled during events. If OV's are available we can be sure they will be used by stepping into AoE attacks and trying to get easy kills from unsuspecting players that just want to play the event.
This.
Especially with OSV Grond, who just soaks up damage like a sponge and then explodes and will invariably kill scores of players who attend the event in MC.
Perhaps grant Takofanes a passive "Foresight of Kul-Turak" which applies to everything within a 300ft radius of Takofanes.
"Foresight of Kul-Turak" will immediately end all OSV transformations, reverting OSV's back into their normal player form. This should probably be visible to all OSV players so they are aware of where NOT to go or in fact where TO go if they want to participate in the event.

They won't be unsuspecting for very long, and this does accomplish your other goal of making Blood Moon more difficult...

OMG... all the changes you guys made, just upped the coolness of this event! I think people are going to like it.
Please.. don't forget to advertise it and pimp it out to all the usual outlets. And while the Cursed is technically just a Scourge copy, it will be valuable to non-subscribers!!!!
This seems unintentional: Turakian Tokens do not drop for players who participated during the Ghost Ship open mission if they are not either 1st or 2nd place on the scoreboard. For example - 3rd and 4th place receive only healing items or green level gear. Also, 2nd place receives half of what 1st place receives.
Suggestion: Make all participants receive Turakian tokens not weighted on score. Also, the Ghost Ship fight is challenging (but fun!) so it makes sense to award more tokens for it. 20 or 25 tokens would make it much more enticing, especially considering it has a 2 hour cooldown.
Tried the new Pirate Open Mission, Came in third out of a group of 5 on the leaderboard... got three stacks of 1-5 Major Power Mystic Shield Evocations. No tokens.
Also, just to be evil the cannon could have a 100 foot range and apply nailed to the ground, hehehe.
Have you considered letting players get to VB without having the crisis?
How long will this event run?
We discussed making that change to Vibora Bay but decided to keep it as is.
The event lasts for two weeks.
So another mindnumbingly boring grindfest. Our options for getting tokens are grinding crypts, pvp with all its problems, a ghost ship which is in a zone many players can't get to, Tako/DLs, or of course zen/drifter salvage. At 5 tokens a piece that's a lot of grinding, and not very alt friendly. (Even with the 25 from the daily)
By keeping the crisis requirement for VB you're limiting who will have access to this content. VB is already a ghost town (as others have elluded to).
Cursed costume set doesn't unlock for me. I get the "Costumes for this item are already unlocked." error, yet the mask icon on the part stays blue, and the parts do not show up in the tailor.

I understand being disappointed. But Considering that we got everything else that was asked for, including the addition of the Cursed items, I think the community can afford to be a little gracious here.
The new team is obviously trying.. and they did at least take our VB suggestion into consideration. This is leaps and bounds above how things have been for the past few years. We can't expect to every single thing we ask for during a test phase. The new team has been really accommodating -- and I don't say that lightly. I'm convinced they are taking our feedback seriously, and even if things don't work out the way we want all the time.

I couldn't have said it better. Also, I'm under the impression that players aren't supposed to be able to casually grind for everything in the first round of the event--the same for the April Fool's Event.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Bug?: Bloodmoon is running the Deathlord OM instead of the Takophanes OM. Is this event to run long enough for phases or is this just running the wrong OM? Considering this runs for 2 weeks I'm guessing this means no Tako this year(if I'm wrong then please clarify)?
Bug: Took out one of the crypts with a friend the other night and got awarded 30 R1 Vehicle Mods(3 different stacks of 10). Also they still drop tons of old gear.
Oh and since the Winter Event will be after this I thought I would toss in something I recently noticed...
Bug: Steampunk Electro-Gauntlets(Female): Color Channel 4 is supposed to be Glow but no longer is Glow. Picking a color in Color Channel 4 will cause the Right glove to have the glow but the Left glove will not. Also the Material Selections are gone.
Suggestion/Request:: It's been requested for years, in regards to the Winter Event, that a Teddy Bear Costume Set(Clarence's Costume Unlocks with a non-damaged re-skin) be made available to the players either via the Z-Store or earnable within the event itself. Since it's October I thought this might be early enough to plant the seed on this and maybe make is happen? Please? _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As for the whole VBA thing...just make a heads up announcement telling people this will be a thing. Despite the posts in this thread, I do kind of doubt only a "small fraction" of the playerbase has access to VB. If given proper notification then this might actually get more people to stay in VB once the event concludes which would somewhat correct that low zone population thing.

Pretty much guarantees I'll only be doing this on the few 40s I have that have access to the zone.
/shrug not that disappointed since I've never really been a fan of this event (yes even with the additions)
But have fun everyone else who will be spending the full two weeks there.

The April Fools event was no where near as grindy as this is. It was also a lot more alt friendly. The number tokens required and the limited time for the event is just a lame attempt to get people to spend zen to get drifter salvage.
They just added the onslaught grind, and now their adding a second? This is a good way to speed up player burnout.

I doubt the ghost ship, especially if it only gives tokens/good rewards to those at the top of the list, will attract that many players after the first few days. Aside from going through the same crypt maps over and over there isn't much of a reason to stay in VB.
Okay, tested the VBA ship. It's a decently hard fight, though the right build could probably solo (I didn't have the right build). The rewards are a mess, though -- it appears to be drops from the original (lemurian) open mission, which means totally worthless by today's standards, plus 10 coins for first place, 5 for second, and nothing past that. Also, leashing distance for the pirates is off, I led a giant mob of them right up to the vendors.
It's really impressive how much you BUFFed the rewards!
and slowly bringing back old costume pieces as well, really excited about it
Definatly gonna get those auras, this gives me motivation to Redo all the fallen heroes crypts again
Really good job, I hope we will also get a lot of new rewards during the Christmas Event (Attack Toys TEDDY BEAR parts, please make it happen)

Running out of Unique FF builds due to the lack of updates and synergies! Playing since 1 February 2011 128 + Characters (21 ATs, 107 FFs) ALTitis for Life!
Updates to the Ghost Ship looks good! I like the addition of the Tcoins drop to the treasure chests in the crypt. 1 coin is kinda miserly though
Ghost Ship and pirates. That's a mighty buff. I'm not running on a defensive toon and I got killed pretty often. - It's really been buffed for the high-end builds of the game.
However, if you stand right smack in the middle of the ship (cause you can, the ship disappears around you), the pirates don't attack you because there are on the "outside". Also the canon only attacks every so often unlike when you are outside the ship and you are constantly hit with canon balls.
So basically you can stand in the middle of the ship, block the predictable canon shots and down the 2mln+ HP ship if you have the time, dmg and inclination.

Added patchnotes for Friday's update (apologies for the late information).
Uh huh, your sorry, well you did make good changes, for what players wanted, but your missing something, why don't you go over to the release notes and read the feedback from there hum?
There is nothing for them to read over there regarding this event.
Mainly because it's a great, shocking story the first time through - betrayal! Heroes die! All hope gone and still fighting on!
But after that first time (or two) you get a series of Kill X and collect X Bear Asses, usually in long, indoor environments instead of the beautiful, stirring doomsday environs of the main zone itself. Then, you have such irritants as Secret Sauce and the obnoxious "final encounter" that entails "hide from the mobs and hold a stupidly slow charge device on the boss". Padding in general is a huge problem with the arc, too.
The story's so good that you don't notice those flaws at first, but by the third or fourth run? Yeeeeah....
So, let's say you have the device that needs to be MAINTAINED in the far slot, #5. You could type : /bind numpad0 "Inventoryexec 1 Devices 4" and now you can just tap numpad 0 and it will maintain the entire thing for you.
.
-=-=-=-=-=-(CO in-game handle: @WarCan )-=-=-=-=-=- "Okay, you're DEAD, what do you do NEXT?"
Thanks for the fixes, and "bind to accounting" of Blood Moon rewards. And the comment regarding the BTC of these last two currencies, at least we know they are working as intended.
Comment: Using the current 30 tokens/day, and a 2 week event, that's 420 tokens, 80 left over to buy max prize. That's one 'extra' thing per day. Not terrible, but usually 100% daily participation isn't needed for max Prize in your events
As extra tokens, and to balance out a missed day I'd suggest (if not planned):
Suggest: Tokens drop for defeating the undead hero boss (Tried only one, didn't get any) Suggest: Tokens in the trick/treat bags ( I didn't see any ToT to test, not sure if planned to be on) Suggest: Tokens for defeating Taco Open mission (Couldn't test if planned) Suggest: Timer for ghost ship
Above also smooth out Grave-running spam abit
Bug (?): I unlocked "Cursed" on the PTS, but didn't see it added to the AT list
Wonderful updates. Various thoughts: -I get not unlocking VB without doing the Apocalypse. However, many people are right that it needs to be advertised. News articles would help, especially if they can be released before the event launches (and the launcher shows them: recent news articles haven't been showing in the launcher). Also, Dweomer should probably mention how to get there in some way but it might be better to simply autogrant lvl 37 players a mission that points them to Juryrig to start the chain. -With the range of crypts to PVP to the new VB stuff, this event has a range of level participation. However, the Zombie Bone and Skull of the Necromancer devices have always been locked at lvl 1 or so. This makes them really unappealing. Some sort of scaling would increase their worth. -With players going to VB it may be worth seeing about some of the broken VB enemy costume drops (though technically a Live problem): http://forum.arcgames.com/championsonline/discussion/comment/1783755/#Comment_1783755 -Nailed To The Gound got mentioned at one point. I'm not against it in some encounters but feel it should only be applied in the right situations. Rather than have the cannon apply NTTG, I'd instead suggest it apply Trauma or some other healing debuff. It'll allow for a better tanking setup (the group will need to rotate aggro) and lower soloability. Adding to this, the cannon should probably have a variant of Downrange Disaster. -The long timer is still a concern. It's slightly less of an issue now that the ship is more durable but it has a similar problem as the six(!) hour timer the current zone Cosmics have that they're dead before people even know they're up and people sometimes park alts there.
- Killing pirates no longer causes damage to the ship.
-I disagree with this...somewhat. Leaving in a weaker variant of this helps the big event feeling and give players more to do. Instead of only focusing on one boss (with a sea of blinding affects...), damage dealers can clear enemies to keep them off allies yet still contribute to the main goal. This also goes into doing more with aggro since someone who doesn't want too much from the ship can adjust focus.
"Interesting builds are born from limitations not by letting players put everything into one build."

From doing the ship on a small team: there are a lot of adds, and they do a bunch of damage. Clearing them away would be useful.
There is typically only 1 instance of VB at any give time and the Ghost Ship OM has a serious cooldown timer. That means that each player really only needs 1 character that has access to VB. Starting at level 34 (all VBA missions are level 37), anyone can go talk to Juryrig next to Dr. Silverback in the Mods & Fusion building to start the VB Apocalypse chain. It's 16 required missions (plus 8 optional) from start to end. Anyone who doesn't have access now can spend a couple of hours to run through it and have proper VB access when Bloodmoon launches.
To encourage participation in the Ghost Ship OM, why not have all people who come in third and below receive, in addition to their other loot, a chance bag item [Pirate's Spare Change] that grants 1 to (Second Place prize - 1) [Turakian Coin]?
This item would be like the random amount of Drifter Salvage item we got back in the day for those little mini-event dailies. Rename it and have it drop as an uncommon or semi-rare for the things mentioned below

Don't worry, VB will be empty soon enough when people figure out they'll never out DPS the PA exploit builds that will dominate the Pirate open mission. Which means they'll never get anything worthwhile.
CO is far too buggy and has too much variance in power levels to make rewards by damage in a temp event anything other than a terrible idea. Save those types of rewards for permanent content. You know, the stuff people actually have a chance at making a better build for. Although, if Forum Malvanum is any indication, most people will just say "f--k it" and not bother.
These forums are awful for reading. It hurts my eyes.

I strongly agree. The way this game is built, participation should be enough to try and land a top-tier prize.

I must have missed this....this is a horrible system!
Aww Hell now, please remove this DPS-based reward

DPS based reward table should not be in effect. Participation alone should grant all a chance at top tier prize. Please consider this and make a change for the better where this event is concerned.
Also, Turakin Coins have appeared in Drifter Store on LIVE but cannot be purchased...I assume this is known?
Pure participation awards result in people just firing their energy builder once and deciding they're done. Top two get the only rewards on an event that's intended for large groups is nonsensical, though.

Having leeches is the lesser evil, in my opinion. It ruins it for everyone that likes to build concept characters, RP characters, basically everyone who doesn't go for pure maximization.
I hope this is more an oversight since this team hasn't made an event like this since Cryptic North set the precedent of "Everyone gets rewards" (unless I'm forgetting something, which is totally possible), because if this is a hint at what's to come, I don't see myself participating for zero chance at the top prize. I don't find non-concept characters fun, and I don't plan on using exploits to up my DPS, so I'd basically be running that part of the event for nothing.
O.o Don't ya'll dare let this go live with DPS based rewards... I would like to have just as much a chance at getting something worth my effort as anyone else and I refuse to build a min-maxed DPS build... just because I don't hit 20k regularly does not mean I shouldn't have just as much a chance at the good rewards as someone who hits 20k constnatly...

You are basing the amount of players in VB on not having an event there, I've been through the VB crisis on two characters and have no desire to ever do it again. Nothing is gained VB locked behind that crisis. By removing that barrier you have a better chance of having more players participating.
Everyone should get 10 tokens in addition having a chance at whatever the top prizes might be. If players find themselves getting only 1-2 tokens plus some useless green, without a chance at the top prize people because they didn't min-max those players will likely stop participating. People shouldn't be getting better rewards for using exploits.
So this is another event where the rewards are minor/only found by grinding and both the gameplay and outcome are aimed at min/max/optimised builds? That's a bit disappointing. I'm finding myself ignoring most events these days because they aren't fun - over buffed enemies with insta-kill attacks, damage tables meaning the same people get the prize, tedious grinding for special currencies, yada yada yada. The normal Bloodmoon events (which, I know, are considered too easy by that particular expert group) are one of my favourites of the type because they're challenging but completeable by "normal" builds, lower level characters, etc, and because the items dropped are pretty useful and available to all. More of that sort of thing, please.
Just soloed the ghost ship mission with my tank. I've got insane gear but the build itself is not specialized.....so it's soloable with heroics if you build for it.
Also, the ship has way too little HP. My Kintetik Backup took out 1/4th of it's life by himself in 1 use. Imagine something like 10-15 players with some running dps, debuffs, etc.....and say 2 or 3 of them pop a backup. That will basically be it. This thing is going to melt super fast and then be on cooldown for 2 hours....which sucks if you miss it during that precious 3-5 minute window when it's up.
Either the cooldown needs to be reduced or the HP (or defense) needs to go way up, just so that people don't miss the event. Maybe both should happen.
The ship event needs to run at least every hour. Maybe every half hour.
With the coins given out in such small chunks, I fear most players won't have a shot at the top items for the event.
Perhaps the idea is to have players get almost enough coins, then buy the rest using Drifter Salvage. That way, players (at some point) spend money on Cosmic Keys. I am not being cynical. This seems like the intent. Extremely dedicated players can earn the event items, and the rest can buy them.
Comments

Also, just to be evil the cannon could have a 100 foot range and apply nailed to the ground, hehehe.
By keeping the crisis requirement for VB you're limiting who will have access to this content. VB is already a ghost town (as others have elluded to).

Bug?: Bloodmoon is running the Deathlord OM instead of the Takophanes OM.
Please?

As for the whole VBA thing...just make a heads up announcement telling people this will be a thing. Despite the posts in this thread, I do kind of doubt only a "small fraction" of the playerbase has access to VB. If given proper notification then this might actually get more people to stay in VB once the event concludes which would somewhat correct that low zone population thing.

This is a good way to speed up player burnout.

and slowly bringing back old costume pieces as well, really excited about it
Definatly gonna get those auras, this gives me motivation to Redo all the fallen heroes crypts again
Really good job, I hope we will also get a lot of new rewards during the Christmas Event (Attack Toys TEDDY BEAR parts, please make it happen)
Forumites like us, and veteran players in general, will need to do all we can to help people get into Vibora Bay.
We can remind people of the Day at the Mall Power House warp. We can also help out with teleport devices. I will do my best.
Whoever you are, be that person one hundred percent. Don't compromise on your identity.
This can help with DEVICE slot items and especially what you describe above:
http://forum.arcgames.com/championsonline/discussion/comment/1827199#Comment_1827199
So, let's say you have the device that needs to be MAINTAINED in the far slot, #5. You could type :
/bind numpad0 "Inventoryexec 1 Devices 4" and now you can just tap numpad 0 and it will maintain the entire thing for you.

"Okay, you're DEAD, what do you do NEXT?"
Suggest: Tokens drop for defeating the undead hero boss (Tried only one, didn't get any)
Suggest: Tokens in the trick/treat bags ( I didn't see any ToT to test, not sure if planned to be on)
Suggest: Tokens for defeating Taco Open mission (Couldn't test if planned)
Suggest: Timer for ghost ship
Above also smooth out Grave-running spam abit
Bug (?): I unlocked "Cursed" on the PTS, but didn't see it added to the AT list
-I get not unlocking VB without doing the Apocalypse.
-With players going to VB it may be worth seeing about some of the broken VB enemy costume drops (though technically a Live problem): http://forum.arcgames.com/championsonline/discussion/comment/1783755/#Comment_1783755
-Nailed To The Gound got mentioned at one point.

Please please please! Take the DPS = reward, off
Also, Turakin Coins have appeared in Drifter Store on LIVE but cannot be purchased...I assume this is known?

Either the cooldown needs to be reduced or the HP (or defense) needs to go way up, just so that people don't miss the event. Maybe both should happen.
