I imagine it's hard enough balancing a normal game, where characters get powers from a small, predetermined pool of choices. Champions has a Pandora's Box thing happening. It's too crazy to tie down now, and if they tried to in the beginning, I have a feeling Freeform might have just been scrapped.
You know -- I distincly remember one of the developers for DCUO giving something like that as a reason they didn't (and never would) go freeform. Something about it being nearly impossible to balance and maintain a system like that.
At the time, I remember being annoyed when he said it. But looking at CO and comparing it to the two big competitors, maybe he was right.
Not that I'm kicking CO while it's down. But knowing that Marvel MMO team did a big push to turn things around in their game -- makes it harder to keep cutting CO slack.
But then again -- I can't imagine what a humongous job it would be to revamp all the AT's, Powers, and Content in this game. With power balancing being the most insane job ever.
How can you balance powers in a game with damned near infinite combinations? Plus add in a tiny staff and what we all assume is next to no budget.
Marvel is looking interesting though - I reinstalled it. I have to say the pass they gave their powers is intriguing.
Since I'm only playing AT's on CO right now (stopped my sub) -- playing the equivalent on Marvel isn't so bad. The alternate costumes and enhanced costumes offer some variability too.
This is RiverOcean's 2nd Account. Can't combine my STO and CO accounts for some weird reason.
