Hey thank you for stopping in and letting us know you guys exist.

Earlier this year it was hinted at that auras were coming, can you tell us anything about them or if they are still on the table? Will they be devices such as the become devices or will they actually be something we can access in the tailor?

Any chance we will see a new state of the game, until report, and ask Cryptic?

Any chance we will see some variety to the leveling in the game? Running through Westside for the 50th+ time gets really really old, and doing the same alerts over and over is also really really old.

Will we ever be able to right click on chairs to sit in them rather then having to position our toons just right to not make the /em sitchair look bad, and how about a toggle for walking?

Here's my question, given the current track record of things... are you going to attempt to renew our faith in anything Cryptic related, or take this opportunity to really make a difference and renew Champions Online.

also can you get someone to take a look at this.

    1. thank you for the bug hunting you have been doing, not just in the last month.

    2. did anyone bother to warn you to have some chewing gum or a squeeze ball ready after you start reading the responses?

    3. Is the super cool built in or an attachment to stop the computers form over heating?

    4. did the drop rate for... well everything get chnaged during this event.
Boxes are about 1 per 100 mobs which is waaaayy better than 80% of drops including recog, gear, costumes.
Everything else also is way down, about 90% of drops (not kidding 13 drops including boxes form 315 mobs- farming in Vb)
farming 2500 other mobs approx 80 gear, 140 recog, 48 boxes....... lots and lots of resource, resource, resource, I had a list down the chat bubble of resource

    5. try not to take the complaining too hard. It's only because there isn't a target with Jack emmets(?) face on it, selling in the Q store. You know if you put one in we could use it in skeet shooting. You could sell an awful lot of them

    6. Have a nice day and try not to regret posting.

    Hi, everyone.

I'm the Design Lead for Champions Online. I work at Cryptic North. I know some of you have been feeling a bit neglected lately, and we really don't want that, so I'll be on the forums to answer a few questions here and there.

Here are a few quick answers to questions you may have had about Cryptic North.

    1. Cryptic North really exists.
    2. Cryptic North is not an independent studio or company. We're super cool Cryptic people working out of Seattle.
    3. Cryptic North is not in Canada.

We have been without meaningul communication for quite some time now. All things being equal, I'm having some difficulty in believing that you've shown up absent some kind of parental company directive. So my first ? : What does PWE want from us, or rather, what is it they wish to learn?

    Had too ask. Realistically though-

In terms of development, will we see existing assets mixed and matched to create some desperately needed new content?

What does the short term (i.e a year or less) picture look like (content/design/features/etc)
for those continuing to use your product?

I heard that if you go to the bathroom at Cryptic North's HQ, turn off all the lights, and put a candle in the sink and say 'Cryptic North' three times, LordGar will yell at you because you're being weird and he's trying to poop.

    Confirm this?

    Hi, everyone.

Thanks. And let's be honest, it's not so much that we've felt neglected- we (or at least I) feel like the game has been neglected. Sure, there's some little things popping up here and there, but it started to look like, well...

It was starting to seem like Cryptic North was a sort of 'training ground' for Cryptic Employees to familiarize themselves with the Cryptic Engine in CO, before possibly shipping them off to work on other titles. Yeah, a bit nutty- but you work in the games industry, so you know this sort of thing isn't unheard of.

But you coming out and saying 'hi' was enough for me. All I needed to see. All I ever wanted. Makes me feel like you guys give a damn, and now I can start giving one. I am really grateful.

Here are a few quick answers to questions you may have had about Cryptic North.

    1. Cryptic North really exists.

I would like to know if you can verify this with a group photo, possibly with one or more of your pouring milk over Trailturtle's head.
    2. Cryptic North is not an independent studio or company. We're super cool Cryptic people working out of Seattle.

In order for me to determine how cool you are, you must answer a question.

Wild Bill's or Oberto's Bacon Jerky?

    3. Cryptic North is not in Canada.

Well, good. Because really, all Canada has going for it is in this list:

    1-Thundrax
    2-Beer
3-That really hot metal chick from Fuse

Otherwise, it's just America with a different soundtrack.

Now, leave Seattle and move to Texas. I'll cook wild pig for you. Might even take you to kill it with me.

Just a simple few questions, or requests...

    - The Cyberninja and RoboSamurai have some extremely cool weapons. Not to mention, several NPC's are running around with melee weapons and firearms that, well... look pretty boss. Now, I'm not about to pretend to know how 'easy' or 'hard' this is, but I'm inclined to say that it shouldn't be too much work, right? I mean, I am not even asking for you to 'give' it to us. I'd buy both packs (Melee and Ranged) from the C-Store, gladly. Because, to be fair- if you downloaded CO today, your choice of weapons would be 'boring'.

-The 'SMG pistol' weapon in the SMG category? It's extremely small and not really suited for a two-handed hold- the character's stabilizing hand is forward of the muzzle when fired. Is there a possibility this could be added to the pistols, especially since there's an identical leg accessory that is mounted like a pistol? Not to mention, Two-Gun Mojo's tray icon shows a SMG/TMP.

Hey, I'm not asking for something 'brand new' with lots of work behind it. I just think there's a lot more that CO can do with what it's already got, and that's just a bit more frustrating than not getting new stuff.

Not to mention, Multifaria has a lot of potential to be re-used. A shame to see it all go away.

Don't get me wrong, I also want new stuff. Next lockbox should have bacon jerky power-ups.

    3) We've been talking about the old weapon skins, but I really don't want to promise anything will happen until the work is actually checked in.

Is there any chance this unspecified update might include a version of the Rune Blade sword from the device item "Cloak of the Infinite Planes" being available as a skin for the heavy weapons set?

Are there any plans to fix exploits such as the many specialisation exploit or ones to get 2 TP's on at once, not to mention all the others I've heard that people use. Some people are able to do an exploit to cause 'god mode' where you can't be hit by anything, I don't have a clue how they are doing that but it's pretty bad if people are actually using this to get rich and beat other players up.

It's nice to see you on the forums though, I personally loved pirates of the burning sea, best crafting in any game I've played be a mile. Keep passionate about champions, the possibility for you to create amazing new things and fix old damaging bugs is open to you. :)

Thank you for taking some time to come here and interact.

Something that I am wondering about is if there is any chance of getting Drifter Salvage to be bound to account?

Whether that means making it a physical item or just making the asset something that is shared by all characters would make little difference to me, but I have some salvage on multiple characters, and I wouldn't at all mind being able to consolidate it.

I just saw in the patch notes for today that STO has made Lobi crystals bound to account, so if they can do it...

    Thanks again for your time.

Well, im not a mean person but the title of the thread doesn`t sound like a dev title (serious and stuff like that). When I saw that title for the first time before I clicked it I through that some (random) player actually saw the CN (Cryptic Nord) because he/she went into the studious of CN, not that a worker (possibly dev) would make a thread that sounds like that!

I'm starting to see a number of redundant questions, so it's probably time to wind this up. Here's one last round of comments & answers.

    1) Yes, of course I play CO. We all do. I have both ATs and Freeforms on live.

    2) I played Champions (Hero System) back in the Big Blue Book days, and I know the difference between an HKA, an RKA, and an 8d6 NND blast. I haven't played it recently, though. It's becoming harder to get a group together for 6 uninterrupted hours as we all get older.

    3) We post thorough patch notes with every update. We are not making stealth changes to the game and hoping you don't notice. Sometimes, something will slip through the patch note process, though. You can help by pointing out omissions in the PTS threads.

    4) Auras are on the 2013 schedule.

    5) I really can't answer questions like 'will this specific bug ever be fixed?' because I only know the answer if we've already fixed it.

Outside of the Q&A, there have been a lot of suggestions in this thread that we're going to look at. The enthusiasm level here is pretty amazing.

Might not be your department, but...

    1. What's the word on new power sets? There's a good few that've been requested like Plant Control, Water, Trickster abilities (pianos falling, explosive pies, etc), Sonic (only a few powers that even do sonic damage ATM.. like 4 I think), and much more. One I'd really love to see is something like Pain Domination in CoH.

    2. Anything on more content (preferably team-based)? Perhaps player-made such as the Foundry as people continue to ask for or another villain contest? Or even then perhaps a player-made hero arc to be done in a comic series? I mean I know there's people out there who've prepared an entire presentation in case the offer comes up.
    *shifty eyes*
    like me..

    3. Zones. Ohhhh the zones... Word on that as well? We've had requests for a trope-infested Tokyo zone (with Monstersaurus or some other Kaiju Cosmic) for a long time as well as Hudson City, the Moon, Britain, etc..

    Hi, everyone.

I'm the Design Lead for Champions Online. I work at Cryptic North. I know some of you have been feeling a bit neglected lately, and we really don't want that, so I'll be on the forums to answer a few questions here and there.

Alright, the Red Robot has questions...

1- Does anyone in Cryptic North RP*?

2- Does anyone up there look forward to supporting the RP* community?

    ...

    ..

3- Heck, just tell me someone up there gives a rat's fuzzy backside about RP*!

    Wait, that wasn't a question..

Well anyway, as you can tell I come here for the RPz and everyone else has covered most of the things I wanted to yak about.

But RP support means a lot of things, Costumes, Emotes and all that but most of all...

like Real Estate it's all about

    Locations, Locations, Locations

We want Rp locations, mostly interiors.

We want the Dojo back, the Arms merchant back, we'd like the Science labs [both of them darn it] back., it'd be nice to have they mystic library back..

We'd like some existing interiors, a 'social instance'* of the following places-

    The Museum

    The Prison

    The Sewers

    The Bank

and so on... there are all places that already exist, we just want to be able to get to them sans mission and with up to 10+ people.

Also we'd like some new interiors.

A restaurant or two.. say a fast food place and a high end?

    A police station

    A school

    A garage

    .. the list goes on..

But we need this, the RP community plays a big part in keeping this game alive and kicking. We also buy a lot of costumes [when we're allowed], character slots, name tokes and other stuff to support our stories and socializing.

Feed us! You will not regret it.

*I've had to use the 'codeword' social location in the past because Crypitc's leadership can't understand Role Play, but you tell them you want social locations, by gum you might get some.

Hello, Leroy. I am not Cryptic North, just someone who works in the office.

I do not have an answer about the Nemesis system or the Foundry today. Voice acting is literally someone else's department.

Wheeled vehicles, though, I can talk about. We planned to do them. I think we even said we planned to do them. Then we went to make them and discovered that Champions lacks a critical bit of tech that the more recent games have. In Champions, if you stand on a slope, you are always completely vertical. We can't make ground vehicles hug the ground.

We could make a unicycle or a pogo stick, but bikes and cars are too big for a single connection point to the ground to look good.

Can we get a Mono-Wheel then?

    Heck even a Mono-bike?

There's two perfectly good ones in that link for Spiral Zone.

And also, I'm one of the people who will not give two ****S about that tech problem if I can get a bike.

I'll live with it. Super double serious.

If a unicycle vehicle ever becomes available, I might even break my vow about never opening lockboxes. Captain Americlown needs his Harley-Davidson unicycle!

And the news about your old Champions habit is possibly the most encouraging thing I've ever heard any CO dev say. It's a pity NND attacks are probably too difficult to code with the engine given - I'd love to remake Starscream (no relation), with his 10d6 NND 0-Range AoE Cone Sonic attack (Defense is deafness or at least 10 points of Armor covering ears), coupled with an 8d6 Energy Blast (fusion)... boy, did he ever eat through his END points in a fight...

So what's it like having Brad Stokan's and Lord Gar's old job?

    I... still have my job.

    Right?

Wheeled vehicles, though, I can talk about. We planned to do them. I think we even said we planned to do them. Then we went to make them and discovered that Champions lacks a critical bit of tech that the more recent games have. In Champions, if you stand on a slope, you are always completely vertical. We can't make ground vehicles hug the ground.

Hey, just a note about this. Is there any way that the tech for the tunnelling powers could be tweaked to fix this problem? I've noticed that if you have the ooze tunnelling the ooze effect does tilt as you go up and down ramps etc. and the power generally hugs you to the ground pretty well.

    1) Yes, of course I play CO. We all do. I have both ATs and Freeforms on live.

How 'bout you and the rest of the gang hook up for an IN-GAME GROUP PHOTO!? We'd love to see how y'all like to Super!

Plus I just like looking at costumes.

    Right?

Where you in the design seat before being a producer?
I may be mixing up people's linkedin info.

Might want to do a breakdown of some of your responsibilities at some point, so people can differentiate between you and Radio a little better.

Then again, you might want to break that down for me as well, because apparently I think Radio's a programmer... :P

I'm just glad something is happening. And that auras have been confirmed for being on the schedule for THIS YEAR!

Not confirmed for release but at least intended for schedule.

If anything, are you guys looking into suggestions made by players of what they think auras should be in terms of design, implementation and how they are purchased, unlocked and used?

Anything would be good eventually. Maybe even in the form of a blog if its close to PTS.
We truly, honestly don't want another vehicle scenario.

Anyway we can get super group bases? Or perhaps expand the number of people you can get into Hideouts to accommodate larger Super Groups?
