FATAL ERR0R: First Mission live

The first mission in the FATAL ERR0R story arc is now live! Talk to any SOCRATES terminal in Millennium City to enter a digital frontier in "Intranet Deployment", save the Champions' supercomputer from being hacked, and earn exclusive costume pieces and an Action Figure.

We previewed the new instance earlier, but we haven't discussed one of the most important parts of the mission: rewards. "Intranet Deployment" is no slouch in that regard, with victors having a chance at two brand-new costume pieces and an action figure.

    My first run review.

Socrates is now a major part of the game and you still have a major inconstancy in her functionality.
Here's a big old Socrates terminal with a nine foot naked hologram.
It lets you access a couple of missions that Socrates deems you are capable of.

Then over there, hidden on the minimap is a 64 pixel "Socrates" button, that lets you
"Search for Emergencies" to pick up or turn in dozens of missions from quest giving NPCs around the game globe. There are even multiple entries for "Socrates" in the this'Crime Computer as its known in the Mission Journal and Tutorial

Then you have Socrates Data Cache and Socrates costume parts. Consistency would be really awesome.
Especially now that you are going to publicly confuse the issue even more than before.

As for the new adventure. Bit too much similarity in all the corridors of this mission.
Maybe if I play it a hundred times I can say "This is the room with the extra cube and "this is the room with less cubes than the other room"

Tables and chairs makes no sense on the map.
Park vehicles and install some computers in the computer.

Floating programs with no function make no sense either, shouldn't they be repairing things with the repair emote and maybe angry talking to the malware or each other, you know like IE and Netscape.

Same old MMO BS loitering mobs.
Make them bring the pain on those other loitering programs, put those
slackerware hacks into the 'Please don't hurt me Mr. Malware! pose of the city's citizens.

Convert some healing drones into fearsome logic hammers!
"We have ways of making you awk!".

Deploy 'brutal and needlessly sadistic" evil laugh to give those deadly drones some personality.

Predominant red is irritating on the eyes.
I thought it was just my eyes, but now that I'm not in the game I'm feeling soothed instantly.
Might have to do with the infinite repetitions of the same patterns to.

Boss fight was a bit tough for my fallible freeform, not sure where I'd respawn if I died
in that fight but if its at the front door I'd probably not bother to finish the map.

Sound effects seem like they've taken a cue from the Secret World and decided to make the game feel as alienating as possible. What do I mean? There are no freakin' sound effects. No computer noises. No impact sound from touching anything. Enemies only ever go pew pew pew and we only hear the impact of their shots, not them actually shooting. Every room is the same ambient woowoowoo.
No sound from using the Socrates terminals.

The drop rate isn't absurd and this is permanent? I'd like this to be the standard now. For all event missions that lead to the final arc, make it so.

I like it so far but for one stinky thing.

We cannot collect the drops that occur from taking out the virus before the big ape brings us back.

At least put the "Leave in 60 Sec" dialog up and let us collect the fruits of our labors.

I liked it. My forties seemed able to handle everything on their own until the cyper-spider appeared, but with a little help from the Indy Kid Sidekick received during from the last event, I've made it through with only a little trouble.

I would not send any lower level heroes in alone, though.

Try collecting WHILE your fighting, that's what I do anyway.

Mission was fun, though it is WAY TO EASY to just pass right by EVERYTHING on route to the end room. Boss Fight was fun. Solo'd it on elite fine with the toons I ran it with. Great for a story starting mission. Well done.

Yeah. I'd have to say that the right equipment is the cure for any imperfections in a build, be it FF or Arch. With my Tempest I'm still not sure if what I need is more a bit more Health, or just a shorter Cooldown, for the biggest battles. Both would be welcome, but you can't have everything.

On this mission, it was mainly a poorly time Block vs a Force Eruption that sent Bolt to the Rez. Since that meant going back in full up and since the spider was done except for a sliver of Health, no problem.

I will say that the only annoyance is not being able to gather any final drops once the spider falls.

Any chance we can get a clock on the departure rather than a very fast - YANK?

Edit - Oh, I see that it's been suggested.

I soloed it on Short Circuit, a 31st-lvl electrical toon. I used three charges of that green-cross full heal item, two resurrections, and Recovered twice (against the giant spider). Didn't see any drops from the spider, but I got lots of UNTIL Recognition from the others.

    I had fun with it.

Does anyone know how to transform into the Security Process during this mission?

    I haven't seen it yet.

If it's a case of bring your Lockbox Becritter Transform device and not a temporary transform for the duration of the mission, then I'm going to be more then a little miffed.

And I got my AF on my second run!

I soloed it on a level 8 this morning. If you take it slow, it isn't impossibly difficult. You have to be really careful in the boss room. I didn't die at all before the spider. The spider killed me three times before I finished it off; I probably could have gotten it on the first try if I'd remembered to open my starter pack.

I'm not sure that ANY low level character could do it though. Shadow Strike took 3/4 of the boss' HP right away, and that's probably the only reason I could complete it.

I cheesed it solo on my pet / telekinesis 40 by using the burrowing movement power wheneve I got low on health (leaving a few zombies and pets behind to keep the boss from resetting) and then popping out once healed.

I LOVE the sound of my shoes on the floor in the first room of "Fatal Error: Intranet Deployment".

I hope big robots and beasts don't sound like high healed boots in there though.

Inside the system the sound of those foots steps should echo or reverb actually with that material.
Instead in the system what we get is a pencil tapping on wood per step.
Not even wood, its something artificial like linoleum?
    tat tat tat

    instead of
tam tam tam for the normal folks
and krang krang krang for big people.

    Sound is so important.

Also the cut scene thing is tremendously annoying.

Love the actor voice but you can do holograms and sidekicked Npc/holograms
or miniature hologram people that float around us , without freezing the game and my mouse.
Right now my mouse is lost somewhere in the game because you stole control of it for your cut scene.
    That is not USER friendly.

This is a condition that exists:

    Enter HQ
    Approach NPC
    Cut Scene
    Enter Cyberworld
    Exit into Millenium

    Enter HQ
    Approach NPC
    Cut Scene
    Enter Cyberworld.

    Every cut scene is unskippable.
Noobs and disconnects will screw this up over and over.
Patching will cause issues. Connect issues will cause issues.
    This all has happened before.

Can we just get the cut scenes from a button by the NPC and the in/out
spout in the machine if we so desire and any other terminal should we have
totally ignored every opportunity to watch it up to that point?

Use some of those UI skills.

There are no waypoints in the mission journal.
Maybe each step could make Socrates a little more functional.

The way points could be all encrypted in the journal until players reach them then
players would have some sense of steps to take
and where team mates are when they trigger something.

If "Just keep doing what it looks like you should be doing and hope for the best." was
the result intended then that's pretty cool because I get that inside joke.

    Ha ha, are you user?

I tried it as my Blade AT and solo'd it pretty well by using just two Major Power HOT Bot devices from the recog vendors. One at the boss and one half way in the mission when I ran afk too close to a group of mobs  Dang dog.

Bring your Become Device. There is no way built into the mission to transform into anything.

    From the initial Dev Blog:
The Security Process is in all the screenshots because it looks cool, you're not forced to transform for the mission.

Okay, it would have been nice if they clarified that a bit more!
I was expecting an optional transform, not a Bring Transform Device to play as Security Process!

And look at all the screenshots, every single one of them shows the Security Process Transform Device.

Now I'm thinking that was just a scam to get us to try and get the Transform Device, not a genuine promotion of the mission at all.

I was less then happy with that kind of con trick the last 3 times it was done to me and I'm not exactly thrilled CO stooped to it as well.

To explain, the company involved showed you something cool, but forgot to mention it wasn't actually included in what you recieved.
The first time was an accident, so I let that one go, even though I'm still angry about it.
The next two however, were on purpose and the second one was deliberate fraud, so I wasn't that forgiving to that company (it did both of them).

Bees like honey, they don't like vinegar.

Most of the screens that I took were taken on a different computer than I usually use, without any of the costumes I normally use (this was on an internal test server). I had an old character I'd made for an earlier test, a tech robot/Night Avenger that I'd slapped a few costume pieces on. You can actually see her as the model for some of the lockbox costume pieces, Umbra.

Unfortunately... her costume was crappy. Put it this way, I forgot to change her face from Metal to normal texture. That's why her face is hidden in the screenshot. All the screens I took of her in the instance just look bad -- plus she didn't really fit the style of the instance. The Process, on the other hand, looks freakin' great.

Hope that helps explain some of it. :)

Isn't there a little issue with the cooldown of the mission? It seems account-wide for the characters who have done it yet.

Fix this, please. It should be a character-only cooldown... shouldn't it?

I find it depends on the way the character is built, and what the focus is. I can see glass cannon dps, and possibly pure tank types (damage gets debuffed on top of already low damage) having a hard time with the mission alone. also, new players and archetypes may have a harder time trying to solo the mission.

With a solo Invuln/IDF rangetank, I had no problems with defense or health. In the final room, I was attracting adds faster than I could destroy the growths in the walls, but that was more of a nuisance than a threat. The Force Eruptions just added an element of ARGENT grenade spam to the final boss fight.

You're making a big error. Eye Fatigue is a real issue.
This video of the preview was posted seven days before this content was released.
Within 30 seconds of being zoned into the map the guy says it burns his eyes.
A minute later he mentions it again. There are very few people who care enough
about this game to make a video, Cryptic should make the effort not to harm them.

I did not have burning itchy eyes when I watched a legacy movie last night after leaving CO.
Just Google the movie and hit the images tab to see how little red shows up in results.
The movie scenes and the colors in the scene shifted to something soothing often.
The actresses for instance are framed by the camera in a way that changed the flavor
being fed to our faces and none of them are soaked in red and black gravy.

My screenshot posted earlier in this thread is my desktop background, the
red on the left side of my desktop is exposed by my browser window and
I'm feeling partially blinded in my left eye while typing this.

Unless I stare directly into the red, how strange...I'm just gonna cover that.

I was thinking the map should go mostly gray scale or a sepia when its not blue and/or white.

Then they can apply the glow on the map and skinned objects effect that the infernal passive
is giving off to the enemies.
None of that soupy wavy aura though, just the map/skinned objects reflection.
This will create the sense of a corrupting influence and power lording to their general area. I saw some kind of big circuit explosion on the floor, more of that but different, where the bad guys roam instead of red everywhere would great.

Socrates selves and parts could get their own general area aura.
Or maybe they could get it after we beat the bad code.
At that point the good nodes can run over to the corpses of the downed foes and do /emote beast_forage
and get their rainbow of color and auras back (come on use everything!) on the floor effect
back adding more sense that we're doing something in this computer besides droning forward.

If you don't want to play morbid with me you cold have the friendly bits siphon/zap off some
memory from the downed guys and feed the starved Socratesians like friendly laser piranha.

A light effect moving over the floor with our attacks or at least from every impact would be astonishing.

    Dogged and relentless.

    I love these open betas.

Did this last night with one of my 40s (invuln + Sword Cyclone), kinda missed a bit of briefing or perhaps shoulda listened a bit better. Upshot was I wasn't really sure where I was going or what I was trying to find. Nonetheless it went pretty smoothly and I found all the champion terminals without screaming so it's easy enough to follow. Wondered if I shouldn't get a bit more help from the Socrates entity thingys that were floating around but it's not like I needed it!
Wondered if I shouldn't get a bit more info about the people who sent this virus but now I find out it's only part one (head-desking commences). I look forward to probing deeper mysteries!

Definitely not for lower to mid level ATs. The final area was just brutal on my level 24 Glacier AT. The basic strategy was to block and then use snowstorm with an ice sheath. When health gets low pop a device. But so much damn blocking. I wonder how ATs without a defensive passive fared. So many mobs popping at once... it would have been nice if the main boss's HP didn't pop up back to full if you're defeated. Definitely one of the harder battles in Champs that I've had if I might be so bold. Then again... I don't have access to my FFs so I'll see how that changes once Lady Torchette gets to put up a firewall of her own.

Regardless, excellent level! I can see what some people mean by it being hard on the eyes. Mine were fine but there was a moment when I zoomed in close to one of the trees that my eyes said, "Staph!"

I say stuff and I say things, sometimes together but only when I'm feeling adventurous.

    I'm @blu8 in game! :D

Finally go in with a full team of 40 on Elite and it was easy. Relatively.

I got slaughtered when I ran ahead and took on a group while everyone
else was taking on a group behind me. When as I was being bled to death, I tried to regroup
and pulled aggro from the two groups. One team mate was missing and the other
was running backwards looking for them, so that didn't help.

Then we all had to exit cyberspace, re-enter the HQ, not move for fear of triggering the
cut scene, wait for everyone to get inside again, then watch the cut scene again.

This is a Fatal Error that must be corrected.
    Make watching the video optional.

Otherwise it was fun arcade game style combat stuff.

Black and Red costume + void powers was a nice combo in there.

Did I mention I found the Fatal Error mission tracker when my mission sidebar was closed?

Maybe that sidebar should only be big enough to show like 3 missions and
never overlap the default position of the mission tracker/team up/open mission widget.

Then I ran it again with a level 7 radiant teamed and sidekicked to a level 19 free form something.
He showed me how to fly over almost all the mobs there and have a hell of a fight at the end.
We died a lot, luckily the spawn point is real close.

You know, when you said "Be careful, he bites" when referring to the AF, you should have said "Be careful, he Bytes". THAT would have been funnier.
    Just saying.
It makes sense, if you don't think about it.

Does the AF drop from an enemy in the instance or is it randomly given from the reward light after you're pulled out by Dr. Monkey?

It's from the reward circle at the end.

I think they need to change this mission so that it no longer gets handed out to level 6 people. It was ridiculously hard just getting to the end-boss for me. And I have failed over and over again trying to beat that virus spider even though I levelled up to 7 mid-instance. The worst thing was I had it down to less than 1/3rd health on one of my attempts and then I got tied down and killed before I could Z out. Haven't even come close to repeating that well in any attempt since then and I am about to give up on soloing it.

Going into it I had no clue it would be this hard since this was my first day in the game. I tried multiple times to find a teammate using that horrible beginner supergroup I got auto added into, but no one ever would respond. And because I'm a new player I couldn't ask for a team in zone chat before going in either.

Basically this instance 'feels like' it should only be run by players who have a ton of levels, or a lot of experience with working the system for 'cheap kills' by breaking the encounter with OP skill combos, or done in groups only. And definitely not something that a brand new player on their first gaming day should be subjected to.

PS: I apologize for the necro but I couldn't find any other threads really about this one instance.
