not really as they are far faster than any other travel power - the restricted use is the trade off and perfectly fair.

Lets face it, where do you want a fast travel power? inside an instance or in the open world?

We build characters using stats, costume, biography, FX coloring.. and a plethora of other things..

Only to have all that work rendered pointless to play as "something else

Bingo. That's one of the points I've been trying to get across.

There's the problem of jets not being able to be used in indoor instances. If they were to stick with that restriction and make jets actual TP's, there's the problem of disparity since all other TP's available now can be used both outdoors and indoors. That's my take on a possible reason why they didn't make it an actual TP.

I don't know about you but rank 3 superspeed (also include things like Dark Speed device), acrobatics/atheletics, or ice slide (which is close to how the traveling mechanic of the jets work) is a PAIN to use indoors. Typically I turn them off (and get a bit better energy efficiency).

You could also try thinking of this from a lore standpoint, where jets need aerodynamic lift produce lift to fly. Think of it like a Harrier Jump Jet or an Osprey (Jeeze it dates back to 1981? That's an aircraft older than me) where it directs the engine thrust downward to hover and then as it moves forward it gives a more lateral thrust for propulsion and gets the lift from the wings like a normal plane. So in other words, if you're moving forward you need to be moving pretty quickly.

Yes I realize game mechanics are more important than lore, but in this case it's a nice bonus because it fits.

More importantly, the most use you'll get out of them is with getting from point A to B on a Zone and quickly. Very VERY handy if you're using them to get UNITY daily mission done faster. Save major time on the traveling.

    Sigh.

Why is the mantra of 'if you don't like it, don't use it' so hard? No one's forcing you to use a jet.

Because it's a fallacy based on bad use of logic. Clearly you didn't bother reading this topic in it's entirety, we've gone over this before. It's quintessential human behavior.

QFT to the following, you should read this closer auldwolf, he/she hit the nail on the head with this post:

No they wouldn't. I believe you've recently said in a different thread that you're fairly new to this game. What you may not realize is that people that get a monthly or lifetime subscription get a monthly stipend of 500 zen a month. Zen is what will be used to purchase the new vehicles.

Some of the people playing this game have been getting a stipend since the first month. They pretty much already have everything they want that's available for purchase on the market which means their zen just keeps piling up. That is why you will see characters mentioning that they have over 300 costumes on that character in their background info.

These will most likely be the first players to get vehicles since they already have everything else so they may as well grab this too. This means Cryptic doesn't make any money off these players aside from what they were already getting.

A lot of those players also sell their zen on the exchange so they don't have to farm questionite for things like purple secondary gear. The people exchanging their questionite for zen won't have to use any of their own real money to buy vehicles since they can earn the zen for it by farming questionite. That means Cryptic will be making less money off these players as well.

Then there are players that use their stipends to buy items like becomes and vehicles off the Z Store and then sell those to players in game for resources. This cuts Cryptic out of the process almost entirely which means that they will make no money off these players.

If you were to read many of the comments in this thread again, you would see that the number one thing people that are against vehicles are asking for is more content. The more there is to do in this game, the more likely players are going to stick around, possibly subscribe or spend some cash on the Z store to buy something fir their character or get another character slot, and even encourage their friends to play as well.

In short: Proliferation of vehicles and becomes does not mean that it is huge profit for Cryptic.

    ^ they get it.

Geez. If Cryptic listened to all the vehicle naysayers and the 'make it moar leet' types, they'd be bankrupt within the week.

Please put that "they're out to get me" arrogant attitude aside and see that's not what's being said... This isn't about some leet v. noob, us v. them, this is about what affects us all, in the long-term in particular. This topic isn't so black & white as you're making it out to be, it's complex and has a lot to do (at least for me) with concern with the direction the game is starting to take with Become Devices.

Yes I am concerned. Just like I was concerned about crafting disappearing completely (when what most of us, including myself were asking for it to be fixed & improved, instead of outright removed), and that turned out to be true. Or that PvP balance would be hurt with On Alert primarily because of the gear (it was). Or that Smash Alerts giving more experience points per hour than doing normal questing would mean the Zones would become much emptier, and it certainly has. Etc. Etc.

I'm actually hoping Cryptic will prove my concerns wrong on this one, and the number one way to do that is to hire some CoH environmental artists and/or bring back good map-making artist we've had (i.e.: Tumerboy) and GET SOME DAMNED REAL EXPLORABLE CONTENT WITH STORIES/LORE!

    Update:

Vehicles are apparently getting the ability to add mods to make them stronger?

    /facepalm

Like I told TrailTurtle in-game, what I love most is flying them. What I really want are more button that do maneuvers, not more weapons. I want to be able to do Star Wars style pod racing  And I'll put it on my YouTube channel. In fact I've done it before in another game:

This may come as a shock to you, but this game isn't all about what you want.

    Peeps still raging. DANG!

As iteamalot says it aint what a single person wants.

If people want to buy them meh their cash down the drain. Me I'd rather play as my own creation than use someone else's it just shows a lack of imagination.

But each to thar own. iteamalot seems like the type of person that would get lots of joy from not using their imagination and you know what if it puts money in CO's coffers thats just grand :D
