For main tanks there is one passive that is substantially better for all cosmics. No debate. When regen and PFF MT become "easy" I might agree with you.
Regen is only a weak choice if you're main tank. Soak or baby tank is fine. Yes, really, I HAVE done it. Heck Tanya once got stuck as main tank because the main died and she didn't.
For healers there are healing powers that work and there are healing powers that if you rely on them you'll get people killed due to cooldowns, targeting restrictions or lack of HPS. Unless someone else carries you, that is.
This falls into the category you allude to later: "It's bad everywhere, not just Cosmics"
For dps, is there not a near-flowchart formula to build their toons in order to be effective for dps checks at dino/eido? We should ask the people who built that guide what its purpose was and if people should just ignore it.
Its called the "endgame" build guide, not the CO build guide. In other words, you can do 90% of the content in this game by almost essentially hitting randomize on your powers. For cosmics, you're limited on your choices.
Builds that do well at Cosmics can usually do well anywhere. Realistically DPS checks at dino aren't that big of a deal.
Don't get me wrong - I think it was a great idea to post the guide and help people build -- but that reinforces my point that the guide came from you and others being tired of missing the checks due to "bad" builds.
Building characters in CO is not quick or easy. If it was I'd have to carry a lot less PUGs. Heck I've had to carry PUGs on characters that I'm leveling...
Much of the variety is cut away by the trinity and specific mission requirements.
How does trinity reduce variety? also the "specific mission requirements" as you put it aren't really that specific. Kigatilik: Main Tank, CCer for dogs, and several healers. the main requirement is for the players to stop dying. Yes, that's right, you should expect yourself to NOT die to Kiga's storms. If you die, you're doing it wrong.
Qwyjibo: Main/soak tanks, healers, CC... that's maybe 8 out of 35 players in zone. Qwyjibo is mainly an idiocy check. DON'T shoot sleeping hearts!
Teliosaurus: Maint ank, baby tank, maybe a soak tank, the rest is DPS and healers.
"But that has to be true of solo content too then." No, it doesn't. I can waste my time and try to make an archery/earth/telepathy build work on a solo mission 30x in a row if I want. With cosmics, after a while I'd be considered trolling if I was affecting anyone but myself (getting killed at kiga, not healing tanks, pets on dogs, etc.).
Um... those three things you mentioned? Have nothing to do with the imaginary build you discussed and yes they are super-dumb.
I think it's fine as it is in all areas, and still remains casual friendly
Trinity actually increased variety. Before the current dev team made the trinity relevant again, the only relevant builds were "tough dps builds", many using the same powers.
I find the overall endgame to be less than satisfactory in a lot of areas, and as such is not casual friendly
"Building characters in CO is not quick or easy."
To be fair, an experienced person can find making their builds to be fast and easy. But, that is because they are experienced at that and know the ins and outs of the system. While those not as experienced will find it to be slower and harder. In other words, this is purely subjective to the individual.

PS - my pet build's pets never attack dogs.
I'm curious, by Pets...are you referring to sigils? Or actual pets like Muni Bots, Support Drones, Attack Toys etc?

Controllable pets can be told to attack what you want them to attack. Uncontrollable pets are a problem though they have limited aggro radius so as long as you only summon them near Kiga they are safe (they're not really usable at the ape).
