A simple, if somewhat daft idea

each time a special alert is run, and you fail to acquire any drops beyond the basic stuff, give the player a 1% buff to drop chance..[as in an actual buff.. stacks up to 99 times, lasts ~5 hours] which gets removed whenever you get a drop form the special alerts.. would make things less.... annoying.

That would be a neat thing. Also, with stacking one at a time it's likely some of the buffs would start expiring before someone actually makes it to 99 stacks. Making it reset once some premium loot is dropped is another good way to keep the chances from becoming too one-sided as well. Maybe add a feature that makes the buff specific to the Special Alerts, and make that 5 hours in real time. So no logging off to pause the timer.

I doubt it'd actually be implemented, but I wouldn't be upset if it was.

Yeah but then when people get a long string of bad rng then they'd be like "Cryptic messed up the drop bonus!" "The drop rates are too low even with the buff!" "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!". Oddly enough this sort of thing would actually have the potential to make people just feel even worse about not getting drops.

You also have people who would not like what would be tagged as a drop that would be part of this percentage system. Let's face it, 90% of the people on this list would only care about it if they could get guaranteed DUCs, purples and what have you out of it. A mod or costume wouldn't fit their list and Cryptic isn't going to start flooding the pool on this stuff.

Good point. If DUCs were part of this then I'd have one on every toon next warlord rotation ( and so would probably everyone else ).

For me the solution to this has always been simple, and it's already kind of in the game: Everything drops currency so that if you didn't end up getting the thing you wanted via rng, you can get it via currency.

I haven't checked but, aren't custom alert costumes on the recog vendor?

I would actually be one of the people that wants this for costume drops. My luck with costume drops is beyond abysmal. I typically just have to hope I find the drop I want in the AH and buy it. I remember spending every day, for 3 months straight, trying to get the Jack Fool Mask and Neck. Eventually just bought them off the AH.

World of Warcraft has something like this for the legendary drops in Legion. "Bad Luck Protection," and it seems to work pretty well. Overall, it makes the whole RNG system behind the drops feel a lot better.

That depends entirely on how large the bonus increments were. The 1% increments proposed by the OP might be a little much, I'll agree, but something like 0.1% or less would still help nudge players toward the good loot without turning the whole thing into welfare rain.

I don't know. I'm just tired of having bad luck with drops, and I don't believe that I need to plan on running the same alert for 6+ hours a day to improve my chance of getting even low-tier drops.

Now running the alert casually to fill Vigilance requirements and maybe even some extra runs just for fun for over two years? Yeah, I think I should have got something on the same tier as a DUC by now. Hell, I throw parades in the streets when I get costume pieces because even the rates on those are so low.

And before anyone jumps on the 'You're just an easy-moder' train, I'm not saying I should have my pick of the entire loot table. I'm saying that setting aside a large portion of my day to repeatedly run the alert over, and over, and over, and over....

As Foxi points out, there's an entire game out there with tons of content, doesn't it deserve a chance for players to explore it? Not keeping people in Ren Cen because they're queuing Red Winter 40+ times a day trying to get the Sickle costume piece.

The funny thing is the devs could just announce that something like this had been implemented, and not implement it, and we'd never know. RNG will always be RNG... that's I like currency.
