Regarding Event-Exclusive Power Unlocks

meeoeoowiemeeoeoowie Posts: 78 Arc User
Nightmare Invasion has had one annual rotation now (could be wrong), did show up a couple of times...
Anyway! cutting straight to the chase:

How are you all feeling about having powers available only through event vendors?

The most noteworthy example is of course Holy Water, relating to the current event, the Nightmare Invasion.
I would include permanent devices as being relevant as well, as devices have hit a point of functioning as an extension to the builds you make, should you invite them into your playstyle.

Does this addition to events annoy you? Encourage you? Please, displease, do you plain and simple ignore it? Are you someone with a lot of different characters and builds, only one alt?

How is the price? Is 650 tokens something that bothers you, or is it easily managed?
Should there be several means of accessing the power?
What about event powers having a permanent spot in the recog stores, but a less grindy solution for event tokens during tied events? A reason for this addition could be that powers are more than just cosmetic, and tie directly into gameplay, making their placement in events clunky, potentially.

My own stance is pretty straightforward, I wish I didn't need 1050 tokens for a new costume piece and power that I both want, already choosing away from other things I wouldn't mind having as well. I just don't find this event FUN, sadly.

Lastly, please try to be civil, nobody needs to "git gud" for not being as eager to farm as you do, and someone else isn't trolling if their opinion is different than your own. Pooling opinions is a good thing, it adds frame of reference, though limited to forum-goers, it's at least something!

How are you all feeling about having powers available only through event vendors?

I don't think it should be a thing that happens honestly. Especially with how insane the prices are for the ones we have access to now, namely Holy Water.

Holy Water costs 650 Elysium Coins.

Each Daily mission grants 15 Coins, doing all three gets you 45 tokens. Adding in beating the snot out of Nightmare Colossi in organized groups...you should gain roughly 7 additional tokens per run.

As I don't farm this stuff because of how unappealing it is...I don't know if there is a diminishing returns on the coin amount awarded per successful run.

So assuming you did all three dailies plus 10 successful Nightmare Colossi runs...you'd end up with 115 tokens at the end of the day.

Further assuming you could keep up that pace for the next 5 days on the same character...you would be able to walk away with 575 tokens which puts you 75 tokens away from Holy Water alone.

For players with one or two characters and oodles of free time, this may not be a particular problem. But for those with multiple characters who don't have masses of free time and want [Insert Grind-o-riffic Reward] quite soon in the available time they have, the pricing and rewards poses a problem.

Does this addition to events annoy you? Encourage you? Please, displease, do you plain and simple ignore it? Are you someone with a lot of different characters and builds, only one alt?

Whilst I understand that the intent is to make people grind until they can predict the attack patterns of every possible mob which spawns for this event...and to make people spend G to open boxes to gain Salvage to use to get additional event currency...that's not an option for everyone.

It does annoy me a little, but I'm in a position where I'm not too fussed by the rewards for this specific event. The costume unlocks cater to those who are interested in creating those types of costumes, I'm just not into animal skeleton costumes.

How is the price? Is 650 tokens something that bothers you, or is it easily managed?

Price is obnoxious, if I am honest. Not something I would look at twice once I'd completed the calculations for the rewards for the time I spend and how much farming it was going to take to get said item.

The price probably doesn't bother some because they aren't interested in throwing holy water at people, but it's a water power nonetheless so has popularity.

Should there be several means of accessing the power?

I'd like to see Holy Water moved to the GCR store for a similar amount to either Neuroelectric Pulse or Shadow Eruption, at the end of the Nightmare Invasion event. At least then it is there as another farming option if people want to use SCR/GCR content to get powers like that.

(Honestly, I'd like to see some way to unlock powers using a mixture of Questionite and Salvage or Questionite and GCR)

Basically yes, I agree but I am not optimistic on whether things will change. Unless Event Currency can be exchanged for another type of currency after an event ends in order to aid people in obtaining event specific powers...the powers are sort of shelved and could even be viewed as a waste of time if only a very small number of people are going to be using them.

I can understand the reasoning. They want people to play the event, so the rewards need to be things that people want. But I do agree powers is not something I'd like to see tied to more events.

If they want people to play event(s). Maybe not making it a nightmare. it's fun as long as it keeps you not kicking your keyboard across the room or shouting at it
And i rather fight agaist 1000 strong canonfodderhencmen army than get bubbledstunnedknocbackedpushedheldhugged with henchmen that are supervillain lvl annoyances. But i guess this game needs endgame content. For the leet.
Ooh the powers..... well i'm fine if they sell them in event store. But make it drop from mobs also. So i can buy it from AH.

A player has 14 days to play the event, and at 57 tokens a day (three dailies, Nightmare Colossus reward, plus a mob drop), the power could be obtained in 12 days of fairly minimal play. A motivated player could fight three colossi, raise their daily rate to something closer to 80 tokens a day, and unlock the power in 8 days of play.

A player could also trade in AFs, spend Gs to get AFs to trade in, and even get some drifter salvage.

The second week of each event typically adds one more way to obtain event currency, significantly increasing the rate.

I'm sitting at 390 on the 650 tokens I will need for Holy Torrent, and average about 90 tokens a day. I feel like this is a reasonable effort for a power unlock.

I do wish the skull pieces were less ridiculously overpriced. I don't think 400 for them is a fair price for the grind involved, and as a result I've just passed on them this far.

As to being event tied, this is to draw in players during that selfsame event. It's there to draw up interest and keep players invested.

Holy Torrent will be a GCR/SCR vendor Power, NOT an Event power

I farmed for the Holy Water last year, along with Valerian's clothes and Lizard Skull, and that's pretty much it. I stop bothering with it
How are you all feeling about having powers available only through event vendors?
    Uncomfortable and Unnatural

I feel that Powers should never be locked behind limited time events
Only Cosmetic items (auras and costumes) and Devices belong on event vendor
it doesn't matter that the event happens twice per year
Does this addition to events annoy you? Encourage you? Please, displease, do you plain and simple ignore it? Are you someone with a lot of different characters and builds, only one alt?
Many Alts, I don't like sticking with only 1 character

The event is huge unpleasant farming Chore for me

I had been farming this year with multiply characters in order to get Auras and the thematic inspire devices for them
Even on lowbies characters (lvl 10-25) with the help of a "good" geared vehicle

after 3 days I got sick of it and i had to take a break from the game, I didn't even want to bother with the Colossus daily because this cause other issues (I dont trust this community for Cooperation)

I dislike everything about the event

The Dark Grim nightmare theme, the visual change of MC, the insane difficulty of the mob dailies. EVERYTHING

I would 100% Ignore it and never bother with it if I wasnt curious about the auras, but since the auras left me with dissapointment (along with the uninterested for me SKULLS) i can promise you that next time i will complety ignore it
How is the price? Is 650 tokens something that bothers you, or is it easily managed?

Insane, Unfair and doesn't worth it
The Holy water itself its NOT worth the trouble
the mutliply skull costumes are NOT worth it neither even if you are a Costume Collector

Holy water is a really underwelming power with a small gimmick
hould there be several means of accessing the power?

    YES

Maybe I'm missing them, but I rarely see any of the one off powers from GCR, lockboxes, cash shop, or events. None of those options seem to be popular for getting powers. I see Hydra most often, but I'm not sure if I've ever seen Holy Water. Although, if most people are rocking ATs, then that's probably why.

Plus, 650 is pricey for a power. Sure, maybe for the AT, but for a power? Bleck. I only have around 650 tokens now because I already had 300 ish from before.

"I didn't even want to bother with the Colossus daily because this cause other issues (I dont trust this community for Cooperation)"

I have never been to a Colossus that failed. One didn't have a tank and I'm not sure it had a (enough?) healer(s) either. The top DPS people just traded aggro around. It was a bit of a mess due to that, but finished all the same. The Colossus always gets pulled away. Not always far enough though because one orb tends to still be within that massive AoE of death.

Block ALL of the big AoEs (red and blue) and stand behind Colossus. If you aren't tanking, that's most of the fight. Probably block the cylinder attacks, but that depends on how strong your toon is. Orb duty can be as easy as a few people doing orbs and someone sitting on a vehicle sucking mobs into the center of the fissure. Depends on who shows up. Last time I did orbs, I spend 80% of the time running between two orbs and barely did any fighting. Still got 400k on the scoreboard. Plus, orb duty has a chance to drop extra tokens and mods. Plus some junk items.

Im using all the powers, both vendor and lockbox[/quote]

I used Mind Drain for a telepathy healer, Hydra on my firemage many characters have Shadow Eruption and Neurolectric Pulse

and all Lockbox ultimates are being used by me, with Vorpal Blade being my most overused one

I even use Holy water on my medic build (pretend this is a healing grenade or something) but its terrible

You don't tell me something I already dont know Sterga, I know all that, I know how to fight Colossus and how to place myself on the battlefield

and I always end up staying defending the orbs and call for more backup

this doesnt change fact that the trying to get CO Community to work together its like trying to Herd cats

you will always get people who ignore the orbs
you will always get DPS who use OSV Gloves of Defender and steal threat from tanks
you will always get trolls and griefers

also the event is so purely optimized that I get memory leak after a colossus fight

and in the end of the day, I had been farming Cosmics with multiply characters since they came out, im kinda sick and tired of open world bosses

Nightmare Invasion is quite a fun event but if it's based on Q Zone enemies, it's too hard for an MC event. I understand it returned in an even harder form than last year, which seems unwise, if the idea is to encourage participation.

Basically... I'm over events, mainly down the buffed difficulty and team-orientated direction they've taken, so locking new items away behind event currency paywalls won't make me play them. But it will encourage others, so generally it is fair for them to release new content and make it event currency-gated, as long as everyone knows that the items will be available by other means in the fullness of time. Even if it's from the cash shop (why not, ffs?).

"you will always get DPS who use OSV Gloves of Defender and steal threat from tanks"

That's what I have. It's not enough to hold aggro from a well geared tank. And... well, Colossus can be tank just fine by a high end dps toon anyway. Doesn't really matter if the aggro hog is a tank or not. Sure, it's nice to have a dedicated tank, but not required.

*shrugs* I actually haven't seen many trolls, people ignoring orbs, or problems with DPS tanking Colossus. The boss fight can go somewhat poorly and still turn out successful. Seems like there isn't a very high bar for teamwork, which is reasonable for an any level goes PUG event.

What makes this event kind blecky is the annoying mobs more than players doing dumb stuff. Cultist and Worms are the second and third most obnoxious enemies in the game. I don't care enough about Holy Water or anything else in the store to do much more of this event now that I have the Void unlocked. Not even Val's sleeves are enticing enough to do this event much more.

Most of the events have been turned into overtuned mind numbingly boring grindfests, But given how they've ignored feedback on the recog vendor prices the feedback here is likely to fall on deaf ears.

overtuned? I think you mean undertuned, even for casual players.
