Armadillo/Samurai/Cyber gear--you'd better get it now...

http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/championsonline#/discussion/1206072/fc-31-20160811a-1-qliphothic-warzone-changes

In particular, the following is coming:

35,000 questionite for primary set pieces
20,000 questionite for secondary set pieces

I already said my piece about this in the PTS threads, so this is really just a heads up. If any of you plan on gearing alts in this stuff, you'd better get it now.

Eh, I hate all that "Super Stats Only" gear anyway. Haven't gotten any in well over a year.

agreed, I tried it on one char and found it annoyingly limited. the set bonii are the only things that make it worthwhile at all.

They're not worth getting at the regular price. Increasing their cost isn't going to make them any more valuable. I appreciate the heads up but this is like finding out the canned pork brains are going up in price, they were unappetizing at the old price, but now they expect us to pay more? They probably could have just deleted them to achieve the same result.

The responses in this thread are interesting and frankly, not at all what I expected. I'm fairly fond of the Armadillo set, mainly the secondaries for leveling and as early starter gear for my alts. I guess this makes me more of the exception than the rule then, because if most people don't consider them worthwhile at their current price, I'm not sure what a price hike is going to accomplish, other than to effectively remove them from anyone's radar.

Maybe it's time I just joined the rest of the world and used a proper heirloom set.

Speaking of, I should mention this too: even those seem to be under siege, because currently, the Teleios heirlooms are getting turned into BoEs. Ohboy! ^^

Armadillos can be handy at lower levels if you are squishy. Heck, I even see some 40s still with them. OTOH most of the content is easy enough that with experience and careful play you can get by without them. Other pieces are meh.

I've used all of them, and found that only the Armadillo gear was really worthwhile. I still use Nemesis gear on several alts, plus one set of Aurum Accelerator gear (which is better than any of these).

To be fair, altaholics can generate massive amounts of Q quickly. I know I can. These prices will make little difference.

Samurai gear is nice on an Impulse AT. It makes your damage high enough to justify using your attacks. Caution with the knocks is still required, though.

Find it interesting you chose not to draw any attention to these:

Decreased Mercenary gear to 35,000 questionite (from 50,000).
Lowered Vigilante gear to 100,000 Questionite (from 150,000).
Changed the Teleios genetic gear to bind on equip (from bind to account on pickup). Existing versions will not change.
Changed the Mind Drain power to only require SCR tokens.

A bit focused on the negative are we?

Merc gear: Still not worth the price.
Vigilante gear: Still not worth the price. Not by a LONG shot.
Mind Drain: Still not worth the price. It's literally a Lifedrain copypasta.

Don't get me wrong, the price reductions are a step in the right direction, but they're still too high to be worthwhile.

The Teleios heirlooms are a different story. Whether it's good or bad though, that's anyone's guess. That's also for another thread which you're free to make if you want to talk about them.

While I can conceptually understand pricing the top end gear prohibitively (i.e. Justice), it seems like making substantive changes to the pricing for lower gear intended for leveling would discourage both new players and alts from its acquisition (tripling primary piece costs and doubling secondary piece costs seems pretty steep) . I appreciate the Merc and Vigilante discounts that were mentioned, but the main advantage to Armadillo et al (at least for me) was that these sets level with your characters: I can switch between my stable of alts, each equipped with this gear, knowing that their power level is adequate for whatever content I'm going to tackle.

These sets were a great QoL item at their current pricing. I wouldn't blink about spending the Q on every single toon to get a full set (and I have). Once equipped, going forward I'd spend money on these toons for devices, vehicles, costumes, etc - because I didn't have to earmark resources for leveling gear again until lvl 40. I just don't see myself doing that for future toons if a full set that approaches the cost of a Q-store travel power (an item that's available to every character on my account, instead of a single toon). I like supporting the game, but I like feeling like I'm getting value when I spend on something as well.

That being said, I understand that on the forum we don't see the numbers/metrics 'behind the curtain,' so if these kinds of dev decisions are going to net better player absorption, have people spending more money (buying Q crates and Zen to purchase Q) and ultimately make the game more healthy, then I guess it's the way to go. Maybe the fact that these sets will be BoE means they will hit the AH and ultimately be available in more ways to new players?

Wait what? Heirloom gear is going to bind to a single character?

They should come up with another name for that because heirloom gear is stuff you pass down whenever you're done with it, and not just once. That's how it's been established in this game.

That's just booboo, another grind-sink. Do a bunch of stuff to get gear for an alt that he'll only use once? In the time it would take me to grind out 600 SCR and 300 GCR for a full set of these heirlooms, my alt would be level 40 just by leveling. This is absolutely silly unless they change the prices to 10/5 per.

  • draogndraogn Posts: 1,269 Arc User
These changes just keep getting worse. Old gear is suppose to go down in price when new/better gear arrives, not increase.

Changing the binding status of equipment serves no purpose other then trying to get people to grind more. The game has enough grinds.

I tried each of the Q store heirlooms, didn't like any.
I prefer the Nemesis and Aurum sets.

    To The OP,
you like the sets, so you are worried about the price change. You don't like the other gear(as shown by your response to spinnytop's post), so you aren't worried about those price changes.
Everyone is different. Some people will hate it, others will be meh.

Now changign a heirloom set to bind on equip, so you can't reuse it. That is just making it in to an over the top priced version of the Q store heirloom sets.

Actually, I see them all as useful for different reasons. I never really tried the cyber/samurai set, but the armadillo set (especially the secondaries) are useful while leveling and even as part of the starter set for 40 and the 11k price was perfectly reasonable. Merc gear is something I do find useful, but the Q store prices (even the recent cut to 35k per) are too high to justify the purchase.

As for the purple secondaries (I don't even remember what they're called) the price is still so high at 100k that they're completely out of the equation.

I kinda feel like the idea was to give the TA crowd something to sell to everyone else, which is gross. Note that existing Teleios heirloom sets are not being changed and will remain account-bound.

Heirloom pieces being made into BoE is a really ridiculous move and opposite to how they are supposed to be used and why folks get them.

Some changes I don't agree with but get why it might be a good thing, some changes I totally agree with, but this is nutjob territory.

This stuff is only useful for leveling IMO, and it took me a while, but I have enough sets of nemesis gear for all my leveling toons. This stuff is kind of useless to me at the moment.

I have a full set of Aurum gear, so I don't need any of this stuff either, but I can still tell making one-shot "heirloom" gear is silly, and at that price as well. 600 SCR and 300 GCR for something you'll use on an alt up until they get to 40.

I agree with mighty zenith. This is in the territory of the job of nuts.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this but...
The game literally rains Quesetionite now. The set gear is more expensive but if you have any higher level characters you can farm Q to equip your lowbies. Trading Q to yourself via the exchange still works. Thank god that hasn't been nerfed --- yet.

Once or if they nerf the ability to combine all your Questionite via the exchange -- then these changes will be horrible for alts. Until then, it's not as bad as it seems.

The lvl 40 gear you can buy with your wallet is now cheaper. The gear you get at 40 from actually playing the game is more grindy. The cheap leveling gear that was more accessible to new people / alts to help level through alerts that the games pushes us into without having to go out into the empty void of the old world with it's disjointed story and hot mess of rewards and drops is now significantly more expensive. The gear that is supposed to be "heirloom" is now laughably expensive for not actually being heirloom gear.

I also love how people who already have the best gear are telling others that Justice gear is now too easy and cheap to get after they have already benefited from getting that "easy", "cheap" gear.

That wouldn't get my butt in a chair to play this game. That'd get my butt scooting elsewhere to play something that felt more rewarding. Hell, I already haven't logged on much this week after seeing the discouraging price hikes, and they haven't even made it to live yet. WTF am I even supposed to do in this game anymore? Level an alt to 40, then buy blue/green auction house junk? Spend weeks grinding enough SCR to put said alt in Heroic gear? Abandon alts and focus on just 1 character? Forget it.

I'll probably just pack up and head back to WoW and STO full-time, glancing in periodically to see if this this dev team ever turns around their grind-based, raid-or-die design philosophy.

Frankly you're better off getting the Aurum set or a set of Nemesis Heirloom gear. While both only raise superstats, the aurum also provides in combat healing and defense and xp boosts and they are both account wide, you just need to use your hideout account bank to transfer them from one character to the other. Excellent for leveling.

Yeah, I guess the good (lol) that can be seen in this is that it's encouraging me to get actual heirlooms, which will save me questionite in the long run. My only question is...where's the Aurum set's offensive pieces? I know they used to be in some pack in the c-store, but that pack...is either gone now or I can't find it.

Armadillo is actually useful to players that only play the free ATs as they tend to be squishy.

You can generally get them off the AH still - either the item itself or the Gold Foil Special Item voucher that unlocks it at the Collector Store. If you need something from the Collector but don't want to overspend, wait until the next Timewarp event. The various vouchers end up on the AH pretty quickly.

Ignoring the fact that the 100k pieces have had their price reduced (they were 150k before), it doesn't take an hour per day, it actually takes a login once per day (to pick up the alert daily) and an hour every four days or so.

No, but you need to have a good chunk of time to actually participate in a cosmic hunt. On average I'd say any one of them takes an hour from when players really start to gather to when they end. I include the time that players have to sit around waiting. They can go quicker, but they can also go a lot longer. I can't see jonsills (or anyone with limited log on time each day) logging in to wait around kiga for a dog ccer to show up. Not a great use of limited hobby time.

Rampages have 2 things going for them:
Even the longest are much shorter than TA or a cosmic hunt (haven't done the new zone on PTS, so no idea of time required there for gcr).
For 3 of them (not F&I) you can join PUG and expect to have a successful run, meaning you can do other things while you wait around for them to pop.

Sure, but that's a completely separate complaint; I was responding to the complaints about Q costs. I agree that cosmics aren't friendly to a casual pickup (TA can be done in a short session if you have the contacts, but if you have fairly limited play time it's likely you don't).

Even the longest are much shorter than TA or a cosmic hunt (haven't done the new zone on PTS, so no idea of time required there for gcr).

At this point, I don't think anyone knows; reward tables haven't been fully hooked up yet. I don't think there's anything solo-friendly that gives GCR in there, though.

Sisyphus only kept pushing the rock uphill because he didn't have the 'screw this, I quit' option.

People don't play content they find not fun unless properly rewarded for putting up with it.

If people aren't playing content? Simple fact is either the fun needs increased or the rewards made more readily achievable.

Same reason PvP pretty much collapsed when the rewards poofed.

Your idea of 'fun' is utterly at counter to what the average CO player wants. So unfun content and ridiculous timetables for rewards = dead content no one wants to play.

Like PvP. Onslaught as intended. Half the Rampages.

Madness is trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

So for most think it's not worth it, So I am guessing the sets are now in the trash piles with the heroic gears. Some of us don't feel like playing in teams in alerts to get the best gear.

If these are as bad as heroics then why not we just roll back to pre-gear update before gear was even introduced in the game sense it seems other gears are gonna join in the pile too.

My level 40 Might/Power Armor Hybrid uses armadillo gear and I am not weak without them, But they was better than what I had before, So I don't see what's the problem here. If gear is just gonna suck a few years down the road then I guess new 40s should not get them and we should just get newbie gear from quests or as drops from enemies.

As for cost, I am in no rush to get the sets and I can easily convert my free zen to get them faster if I wantedto as my zen piles up over time.
