In theory, they can certainly add the features you suggest as the game matures. Zone by zone they can add questlines or even chains of quests that cover multiple zones.
Or how about having a mailbox in every zone? Or why have the archaic notion of a mailbox at all? We can open mail from everywhere...but have to physically go the mailbox to retrieve an attachment...not very well thought out.
How about: First, you will need an earthen vase. To prevent it from overheating, add a Living Spring to the vase. Then add the remains of the summoned elementals. This will act as an emergency fire rune.
