It's not Cryptic, it's PWE, which owns Cryptic. It's their business model for all of their games, full stop. They're not going to change that to make a sub model.
Not sure. Right now supply of gear is down (as you saw, people are not running T2s, so they are not listing gear on AH) and supply of ADs is down, too (BOP instituted, and people sinking ADs into the expansion campaign tree). At this point the market is unstable and in flux. We'll have to see what happens in a week or two…
People mostly don't play MMOs for fun. They play them for achievement. That's why people call it "work". It's about achievement and competition and comparison with others. There are *some* people who play for fun, but for the most part people do not play MMOs for pure fun. That is why the issue is always "is it worth it"…
For future reference, that exchange interface is where you can also move your ADs around between characters on the same server and account -- there are other threads on here explaining how to do that.
Yeah you get the quest for the solo dungeon right off the bat. If you didn't, you probably missed something or didn't speak to the questgivers again. It's not supposed to be from day two only (was from day one for me both on test and on live).
Oh I forgot about the trade ships -- good point. Still a currency sink, but not necessarily on the AH. It's also a good point that unlike NW, STO's dilithium is a much more limited use currency . They upped the ante, so to speak, in NW by making ADs the main currency of the game and not just a specialty currency --…
It's also a PWE design standard. Their Asian games are designed with even more currencies than this. When PWE came into STO, more currencies came along with it. It's designed to create a set of super-currencies which relate to Zen. Zen can be used to purchase the super currency (AD, Dilithium, etc.), and can also be used…
It's gated primarily because it's a reputation-grind type system. They copied this from one of their other games -- Star Trek Online. In STO, you also do dailies to get reputation currency, and then you contribute this currency together with trade goods that are very hard to obtain in bulk, and which therefore in effect…
The visuals are great. I do think that they toned down the mobs a bit from the preview/Mimic version -- at least it seems they did to me, in terms of both health and damage, which makes it a bit easier. The preview version was a bit more consistently harder, even in quite good tier gear.
True. I think another problem is competition coming online in the MMO space as well very soon (in a few hours, in the first instance). It's a tug of war between business models now, I think, because a few of the new coming MMOs have said they are starting with subs, which goes against the grain of the last 2 years or so.…
That's true, but the issue is that the model doesn't care that much about existing players, but attracting new ones. They are mostly attracted by "free" and don't care about the dam, like the existing players do. I think we NA players are still getting used to the dynamics of how a F2P game works in this context (i.e., not…
I can't play more than one at a time either, but I think for a lot of people who play this they/we have spent more than a 2-3 months of sub in a sub MMO plus box.
Right, it's a real hard clamp on the AD supply through gaming. And it's understandable why that won't be popular, especially when a small but not insignificant number of players just became multi millionaires if not billionaires yesterday.
It's a module -- a relatively small set of areas with some adventures in them. It's also basically very similar to STO's rep system, which requires daily quests (and the tokens from them) plus other items purchased with currency to be "contributed" in order to unlock tiers, which give access to gear upgrades and passive…
The thing is this is what Cryptic did in STO as well with the rep grinds with their timers. It's not new for Cryptic, and I doubt it has anything at all to do with "who is leaving the game", because this content was designed long ago, really, long before OB start. This is more or less lifted from STO with adjustments to…
Max out character slots. Get leadership to 20 on all of them. Pray on all of them daily. Use 20 Leadership to generate AD, sell wards from coins for AD.
Of course that's what they're doing. Obviously TOR and TSW did the same. Why not grab the cash from the subs at the beginning? It's a cash grab opportunity, really.
I can understand the complaint, really, because there are weekend warriors who play mongo hours on the weekends because they work/kids/family during the week, and they can more or less keep pace. But daily quests are not designed for that, and shouldn't be -- that's the point of them --> giving players a reason to play…
The thing is, though, that STO was also more or less designed similarly by Cryptic long before they were owned by PWE. They started with a sub model, but like everyone else, quickly moved to a F2P model with a cash shop that had much more than cosmetic stuff in it. When PWE came along they introduced dilithium crystals,…
Daily quests are daily quests. That's the nature of the beast. This rewards people who like to play for an hour or so every day, which is what any daily quest system does.
I agree that the exploit should not have been supported and should be rolled back. But ... these mounts have always been sold for AD on the AH, and therefore buyable by Zen generally for much less Zen than the cost of buying enough keys to open enough boxes to get one under RNG.
