Neverwinter's Stronghold expansion is coming this summer

Neverwinter’s next expansion is called Strongholds, and it’s coming to a PC near you this summer. Players will work together with their guild mates to claim an abandoned keep and rebuild it on “the largest map in Neverwinter,” according to a Cryptic press release.


Strongholds tasks guilds with clearing the lands around the keep of monsters before building structures and tower defenses as well as siege components to attack enemy guilds. “Strongholds gives our Neverwinter players the ability to create their own stories of banding together with their guild to forge the tales of their rescuing of lands overrun with orcs and defending their turf from invading players,” says executive producer Rob Overmeyer.

    "defending their turf from invading players" - Don't like the sounds of this at all, had enough defending my guild bank from thieving players let alone the whole guild.

    I wonder how costy it will be (time and ad/zen) Im afraid biggest guilds will just crush evry1 around them.

    It sounds like awsome.

    That and probably a good new dungeon to end the elemental story and i think we lla have a very good mod 7, probably the best mod.

    Ugh, I certainly hope there is an option to keep my solo guild (here since beta) out of this then. I really don't like thinking of the inevitability of solo/smaller guilds being farmed by the p2w guilds, should they exclude said option.

    Hmm. Skeptical. They can't even handle the lag in Tiamat and they're going to handle siege warfare??
    So -- a "siege" of 8v8 players perhaps??

    I'm gonna turn my Caturday Cloak into a banner to fly on top of the tower of our Stronghold. That'll send fear into our enemies!!! ;)

    It's probably a pvp queue like any other, accepted by a guild party, from within a guild stronghold that they've built with guild donations..

    Don't think a solo guild with a ruined keep that isn't queueing for GuildVsGuild combat will have to participate. ;D

    Yeah, thats a concern. Maybe theyll implement a method where a guild actually needs to 'invite' another guild to warfare (GvG) or a simple toggle it to open warfare against anyone.

    The link to massivelyop.com is broken - returns a 404. I searched on their site and couldn't find anything, looks like the article was taken down. The video worked though. Looks cool - I'll be interested in how they do guild warfare in such a way as to prevent the active guilds from effectively preying on the inactive ones (or the large on the small, etc). My guess is, the "raid" on the enemy stronghold won't actually hurt the losing guild other than perhaps in the pride of having been beaten... As in, it won't cause actual damage and it won't result in a lost of resources.

    I am relatively certain that any guild that doesn't want to do the content can completely ignore it.

    Not sure if you'd be able to peacefully work on it uninterrupted as a small guild without being harassed though (just by the pasted-in phrasing since I didn't see the article).

    Trailer was nifty. Neverwinter does a good trailer.

    I wish we could form alliances in neverwinter , looks like I'm going to have to ditch my solo packrat guild and join a real guild lmfao

    I guess the system will be similar to the one in Star Trek Online:

    1. you donate resources to the projects and receive guild money
    2. you can buy new gear with the guild money, the money stay with you even if you switch guilds
    3. you need to upgrade specific areas in the castle, upgrades open access to new gear; guild gear is in many areas the best in the game (so you do dungeons for the resources for the guild projects); these upgrades are very costy (I expect 10s of milions ADs)

    I am in favor of ranked sieges similar to the system in Runes of Magic. There was only one major flaw in design and it was guild-hopping :)

    To avoid being dominated by exploiters this should be a whole new system with a specific currency only earned by doing related tasks and only used towards the upgrade system. These tasks should also have benefits outside GvG to get more folks interested in taking part. Unfortunately as the "new" Cryptic has wholly embraced the P2W mantra I fear it will be all about zen purchases and massive AD sinks.

    This is what I like about the Neverwinter crowd. As soon as a tiny detail is revealed about future content people immediately post what is wrong with it. :)

    Everyone likes a good "I told you so!" when you warn about a possible mis-step and the warning goes unheeded. Perhaps there is also the possibility that perhaps our feedback does, on occasion, lead to better content than it would have without it.

    So many people feeling that the sky is falling.

    So sad.

    I got goosebumps watching this trailer. That being said, this would be another direction for PvP. I do not think that ANYONE will be allowed to raid your guilds bank. I have a feeling, after have played some games similar to this, the guild will have to rebuild the structure if they lose... while they are in a protected state. I highly doubt that Cryptic would handicap a guild or allow the farming of guilds to happen.

    What I see this creating are guild alliances and guild enemies... similar to the Luskan and Delzoun thing in old GG.

    This is an open book... and it does no one any good by thinking about the end of the book before we read the first page.
