Do you have questions you can't wait for devs to answer? Bring your hard-hitting questions about Neverwinter to our live IRC chat this Friday, 09/27, at 5pm PDT (Pacific)!
Hi there everyone, I will be the host of the Q&A Session on IRC this upcoming Friday Evening. I thought that I perhaps should give a quick explanation of how the Q&A Session will play out, so that people aren't wandering in blindly having no idea what to expect!
Before I get into this explanation, I'm going to assume that everyone knows what IRC is; however I know many of you won't so please refer to the post above this one, that cmpinpointerror gave, for more information.
Upon Joining our IRC channel on any given day, you will find that you can chat freely, and for the most part do what you want. However, come Friday, and only for the Event, this will work a little differently.
We will be changing a setting in the channel, (channel is the term for an IRC chat room), to what is called "Moderated" mode. This means that only people who have specific amount of power (what we call access) will be able to openly speak. All new users who join the channel will be silenced by Default. The reason for this, is because we do not want people randomly firing questions into the channel en-masse. Instead what will happen, is when you look in the userlist on the side of your screen when you are viewing the IRC channel, you will see a user named "Questionserv". This is an automated program, not a real person. Questionserv will be the tool we use to direct your questions you have for the Developers, into the channel in a smooth and organized fashion.
In order to submit your question to the Developers, we ask that you send your question in a private message to Questionserv by typing the following command (similar to the command mechanics used inside the Neverwinter game): /msg Questionserv 'questionhere'
Example: /msg Questionserv Are there any plans to increase the level cap in the near future?
This question, will then be sent into another channel that the Dev's and I will be in privately, in order for us to filter out repeated questions and the like (No need for the same question to be asked thirty times!). After your question has been sent into this private channel, we can then have Questionserv, at our disposal, spew out questions you have asked, one at a time, for all to see in the main chat room, and they can be then answered by the Developers publically!
Truthfully, this explanation sounds very complicated, but 99% of those complications are things behind the scenes you won't even see or care about, all you need to truly worry about, is knowing that you not being able to openly speak in the channel during the event is done purposely for the sake of organization and not flooding the Developers with too many questions too fast, as well as making sure you direct your questions to Questionserv so that it may get shown and you can get the answers you crave!
Now, the event will run for roughly one hour, so obviously not everyone's questions will be answered unfortunately, but I can assure you we will do all we can to get as many of them out there as possible!
Lastly; a log of the Q&A Session, following the event will be posted on the Globalgamers.net website, for all to view and or save. A Link to this log will be provided once it has been posted.
Any questions about how this event will proceed, as I have tried to be as clear as I can, but understand many of you may be reading this going "What?", can be asked here, and I will do my best to answer them, or you can visit us on IRC anytime you want, and ask your questions there! The Moderation (Silencing of users) is not permanent, only for the event; so feel free to join us anytime, become a part of the community, and if you have questions for us, ask them!
You'll find me in the channel under the name "Dragostini".
Why always third party websites, such as facebook etc.?
I brought the idea of the Q&A session up to Cryptic / Perfect World. So doing this Q&A on a third party program (IRC isn't a website), isn't that unthought of, considering that has been my hopes in the beginning / plan.

Bringing up facebook was just an exaggerated example, because cryptic used said platform in the past. Or was it twitter... i do know that IRC is a chat software, but i did not know people are still using it. The last time i used it was around 2001 i think, lol.

Oh yes, it's still huge, some IRC Networks have channels with over 600 users in them :P
Slightly disappointed in the questions that were asked I must say. With all of the issues that have been raised here in the forum, I expected some harder questions rather than the softballs and repeats of ones always asked. With the same answers as always. I was also expecting a much longer interview. I am pleased that the Dungeon Delve issue was addressed and that the proposed key solution might be implemented. Unfortunately the rest of the interview was rather uninformative, really nothing new.
Gotta keep in mind with the lack of time comment, that our Guest was the Lead Producer...A busy fellow; And we actually ran about 15 minutes later than had been planned. As for the Questions asked, over 90 questions were submit, but obviously not all of them could be answered in an hour or so.
I will be in communications with PWE/Cryptic about potentially doing other Q&A sessions in the future, if they are game for it again, so stay tuned

Looking through the log, at least one question seems to be missing. The question I asked about companions.
<QuestionServ> Question from Dardove1:
<QuestionServ> What plans do you have for companions? Anything to improve non-augment pets?
<Dardove1> Hey
<TheSquez> sup dardove!
<TheSquez> ummm
<TheSquez> i have a giant list in my inbox right now
<TheSquez> actually with a pretty detailed list of fixes to be done to companions with some cost estimates next to it
<TheSquez> mostly to do with non-augment companions
<TheSquez> so yeah. certainly we want to do some things to improve on the system
<TheSquez> just like everything else tho, it's going to be a matter of figure out when to get the changes in compared to cool things like...well like all the ohter things you fine folks have been asking about
<TheSquez> (
<Dragostini> Very cool, thanks for the question Dardove1
<Dardove1> Thanks for the answer
Well they could have at least picked questions that hadn't been asked many times and answered before, like about the new classes. We already know that answer, it's been discussed to death. That was actually asked twice, we already know about the Paragon paths coming, as well as Module2. Call to Arms? The Devs have already said that more were planned. Seriously, a question about borrowing Zen? I realize time was short so that limited the amount of questions, but you could have made them count with things that haven't already been put out.
maybe is only me, but it's look like they did pilot question. Only stupid or old question, no serious one. I don't think's a lot of people care about new fashion ( -.- ) or the possibility to stay on the mount after you change the map ( -.- ). There was no question about the trilion of bug the game still have, the skill isnt working or the paragon bug.
p.s: borrowing zen -.- where is the utility of this question?
never did they mention they would actually answer said "hard-hitting questions". They just said to bring them. I understand now. Sorry for not believing this when it was initially posted.

Makes me wonder just how much of a good option the Angel of Protection from the vault of piety is going to be by the time people can access it.
So everything they are looking at and nothing actually around the corner.
Pvp? Lol give it 6-12 months and you might have another warfront, and by that time we will havemuch bigger AAA mmo's out that have much more pvp content.
Would love to know what they actually do all day, because the fey module would have been worked on way before release, so there should be much more coming, yet nothing at all by the looks of it.
Wen people joke saying they spend all day coming up with new mounts, and nothing else, the expression "Many a true word spoken in jest!" Comes to mind!

From the lead developers perspective they're always looking at stuff as they rarely get a chance to get into the code itself. It's a bit like asking the CEO of a major store chain what they're doing to improve how the shelves get stocked. S/He might be aware that there are problems and maybe even that there are plans to correct them, but they won't know the details until the memo detailing it arrives.

Sorry, but that is so far from the truth, you would be wise to see what a lead dev does for just about every other mmo out there, then not try and defend someone who does know what's happening and being worked on.
And using an analogy of a CEO and shelf stacking is so so wrong. A lead dev wouldn't necessarily know about an individual bug that's affecting a side quest in a particular area, but anything that affects a lot of people they would.
A CEO for any company would know what the companies issues are at present and what is being brought out and worked on to increase revenue.
Pvp, expansions, new classes, content etc are all major parts of a game.
They have a nice big white board, with a list of things and to do lists, and then time scales etc next to them in there office (if they don't, then lol at what are they leading exactly?)
Yet all we seem to hear about is "what we would like to do!" And lockboxes/mounts etc, all <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> cosmetic stuff, yet for a company who seems so intent on cosmetic stuff to bring money in, they do bugger all to entertain role players with more choice (and no I don't even Roleplay)
never did they mention they would actually answer said "hard-hitting questions". They just said to bring them. I understand now. Sorry for not believing this when it was initially posted.
Kind of feel the same way about that. They took questions from people that didn't bother to stay. They took questions from some people twice. They took questions that were just jokes... "can I have some zen?" All the while ignoring anything even close to being "hard-hitting questions".
That said, I honestly don't know if that's the fault of the people hosting it, or if the guy being asked just refused to accept some of the questions. Either way, I won't bother with attending another of these.

You guys have to understand. There are a lot of questions that COULD NOT be answered, that's why some of them weren't even brought up Cryptic has always been hush hush about the future and they have their reasons. Believe me, there was a lot that Andy wanted to let slip and couldn't.
A lot of the answers were still a bit bush strafing but that's the nature of the business. If you collect what he said in this interview, as well as what is released on various other sites and medias, you can almost parse what is coming. It's his way of giving breadcrumbs. That is why why have arrived at the 'idea' of what the next class is. He never told us, but he gave us enough, all he could really.
On top of this I would like to remind you guys, that if there was something you wanted asked, and did not attend, you have zero room for whining.
I will throw this little tidbit at you, however. Even without Andy giving a straight answer, our little IRC crew has a good bit of knowledge towards the future thanks to some file divers and data miners. You don't always need the horses mouth when you can hear the surrounding whispers (this is the part where I shamelessly plug the IRC channel) Come on in to irc.globalgamers.net #neverwinter You will be surprised at what you can find out.

Hello there, you might not know me but I'm one of the ones who helped with the event. In regards to your question about what questions were picked, it wasn't our doing so that part was out of our control. All we did was pushed questions out to the public that the interviewee chose to answer. I will also like to point out, he only had an hour to answer as many as he can. There are questions that people might ask that well, won't ever get an answer because that is an internal development process and you can't let all the secrets out of the bag.
I advise to everyone, if you want hard-hitting questions noticed and/or addressed, do participate and send your questions in. You have the right to ask.

Thanks for letting me know it was him, and not you guys. I did say that I didn't know if it was you or him. Doesn't change how I feel about the overall experience though. The thing was portrayed as a serious Q&A session. Instead it was a rehash of old information, already available elsewhere. It wasn't worth it (in my opinion, of course) to sit there for an hour for 0 new information. But again, if he was screening his own questions - that's his fault, not yours.

No worries, rune. There was no offense taken and I wanted to address to the public how the event went underway.
sorry, but dogging the developers for not providing proprietary internal "not-ready-for-prime-time" information is completely ridiculous. and the fact that people are using the quote "answers to hard-hitting questions" as their reasoning behind it is the prime example of why you won't get leaked information from a cryptic employee ever. any quote will be construed as some kind of promise and when it doesn't happen, it's used against the company or the developers... just read the Q&A and how andy is careful with his wording when presented with something for the devs to consider.
the fact is that no one knows what the list of bugs/fixes/new content looks like but cryptic devs. making assumptions based on what you don't know and can't know because it's internal proprietary information is just wrong. even to the point of taking stabs at someone's work ethic... completely unbelievable.
