Ravenloft: Chapter one, Darkness Rising

Hello all Apoc here,

Hey everyone the quest is published and I believe it's good to go! to find it you will have to do a search because for some odd reason it does not show up in the "more by this author" or "subscribes" sections of the catalog, the two ways to search for it is either by short code [NW-DMHM6HXH5] or by typing in the word "Journey".

The quest has been officially named "CH 1 Journey to Barovia' as the profanity filter did not like Darkness rising.

I also wanted to let people know that the last fight can be incredibly difficult if you choose just to skip over side quests and only follow the main quest.
There are a few parts to it that will decrease the difficulty, when you start out Bildrath the merchant is there, you need to sway him to let you trade for one of his items.
There are 3 to choose from a merchant's crest, a sword, and a bottle of elixir.
When used correctly in the Village of Barovia these will impact the final fight in 3 very different ways,

1. Do nothing = 100% chance that zombies will break down the gates and swarm the square from all four directions

2. Choose the merchant's crest = this will avoid a fight with Nicoli and also reduce the chance of zombies spawning by roughly 50%

3. Choose the sword = if you choose to show this to Nicoli He will trade it for protection, this will assure that guards are protecting you when you encounter Strahd, and they will fight the zombies for you.

4. finally, if you choose the elixir, you can trade it to Ivar for his carpenter's hammer, once you have the hammer you can construct barricades in 4 major locations around the square, each barricade will reduce the chance of zombies breaking through by 100% in that area.
You can fail these objectives by choosing to interact with the NPC's incorrectly at any time, also Strahd does not die, you can't kill him...yet. But he will try and kill you and then laugh over your corpse.

Arriving at the Tavern, you can see Strahd's Castle in the background watch out the fog your breathing will never let you leave!

Here are a few more photos of the upcoming campaign, This will be a solo quest unlike the Cragsteep Crypts which was made for a group of adventurers. I estimate that this will be available in a few weeks depending on development time and bug fixes. Enjoy!

This kid has talent. You guys are going to be blown away at the details he put in to this quest.
There is a rumor floating around that I am working on a new foundry quest. It was started by me.

Any update on this? I'm REALLY looking forward to it. I had actually started making my own, then realized I should see if anyone else was working on it.

    Hello there smurf,
Currently all the maps for the first chapter are finished. I am setting up the story and encounters for each map. Just about done with some side quest options with Bildrath and Perriwimple.

Here is how the campaign will play out. The fabled Sun sword had been shattered and the various pieces lost in the realms of Ravenloft.

Chapter one should be fun for vet players of the module and also introduce new players to the story of Strand and Barovia. The Chapter sets you on a journey to locate the prices of the Sunsword and have it reforged.
Strand is watching your every move and will do all he can to stop you.
Each subsequent chapter will take the player to a new realm of Ravenloft as they search for the peices. Players will see iconic villains and areas of these realms as well.
Once the sword has been reforged, it will be up to the players to brave the dangers of Castle Ravenloft as they attempt to finally destroy Strahd. Not sure yet but, I may make the final chapter a multiplayer dungeon.

Also, if your looking to kill and hour or so with a few buddies give Cragsteep Crpyts a spin :) recommend playing with 4-5 players.

Holy crapola. I must know how you did the tavern...that is excellent!
My quest was deleted in July of 2013. There were no issues, it had not violated any rules. Was deemed a bug. That quest is still missing.

Thanks guys as with the Crypts, all environments I make are custom build from the available assets we have to work with. I want to make sure anyone that plays the stuff I have put out experiences a totally different environment form anything else in the game.

    Thank you very much guys!
I certainly hope I do the setting justice, to be perfectly honest I took this on because it was requested by some one in the community. Since I'm not doing any other dungeons until bosses are in the Foundry, I thought this could be a fun side project.
I'll admit, I never got to play through Ravenloft but, have spoke with many people who have that have given great input as to what they experienced in the modules and would look forward/expect to see.
I am diligently reading through all of the old models to keep everything as authentic as possible.
I do use some artistic license and my interpretations of areas in some places, just because we are limited to what we can do in the foundry.
I'm currently finishing up the 2nd map, so I'm hopeful that this will be out for testing soon. I will post some screen shots of The village of Barovia. Here soon.

Apoc makes some amazing maps. Even if your person that doesn't want to spend the time to read the lore he puts in place or the dialog and just want eye candy, his maps have it. Don't just rush through. He adds alot of little details that you can miss if you have tunnel vision on the shiny line on the ground.

    Amazing work as always Apoc.

@ nullwolf1 I wouldn't recommend doing the Crypts alone it's tuned for 5 people. unless you have 100's of HP pot and hours of time on your hands :P with a group of 4-5 you can get though it easy in about 40 min or so. And thanks much, I want to make sure that this is a fun experience for everyone, I hope I lived up to the Ravenloft fan's expectations. :)

    Great to hear nullwolf1,

I'm sure you guys will have fun as a group beating down the baddies in the crypt :)

Thanks lovepeas, this is almost finished, I am pushing to have chapter one out this weekend but we will see, I have added in a mechanic I think will promote choice and consequence/reward for how you interact with the npc's. I'm eager to see how it's received :)

    Hey all,

Just a quick update, Chapter one is essentially finished, I will have it up and playable some time around noon today.
I just have a few minor tweaks to do before it's released. I'll be posting here when it goes live.

Hey just wanted to pop in and say looking good bud. Love authors who actually go into detail with their environments. (Have ya seen Almostcool's map? Spellthief Trials? It's beautiful)

I too am sadly waiting for more Foundry features in order to create my masterpiece. (Bosses, the ability to add temporary companions, not guards or cowering npcs, but companions that fight and revive, ability to make the story less linear, ability to make encounters challenging without just stacking tons of adds, the ability to add simple vendors so players can offload their items, the ability for players to exit the quest and come back from where they left off, ability to scale details, music and sounds to actually work, the list goes on lol)

Until then my first quest was basically designed for myself and people looking for a fun Foundry to do for dailies.
