Forums are generally more usable at a glance and searchable if topics of interest can be segregated and then searched on directly. Achieving this segregation can be difficult in some cases, but in the case of classes forums categories were fairly clear: Each class would get its own forum for discussing issues related to that class.
Each class is likely to have a large number of topics particular to it, placing all such class topics all in a single forum ("Class, Combat, and Gameplay Discussion") makes it difficult to browse for topics related to a class of interest.
Myself, I am interest in the Devoted Cleric class, but am not interested in the other classes at this time. To keep abreast of the Devoted Cleric community, I previously monitored a forum where all of the posts were related to that class. Now, if I wish to be aware of that same community, it is necessary to sift through a mass of posts from many classes. Further, the posters in any given thread particular to my class of interest are less likely to be made by an individual with any real understanding of the class because everyone is in that forum anyway ("might as well add my opinion, regardless of how uninformed it is").
This thread needs to be locked and deleted. The forum will be getting a wipe as mentioned in the past. There is no requirement to place a poll to get them back online when the community team can see what is happening.
I spent a lot of time putting together a guide for GWF, The info may be out of date soon but it at least lets people plan for open beta. Considering that I have downloaded about 6 patches since closed beta four, this may be why they have taken them down for now. They may want to force people to use their heads and look at the changes.
That being said, use this at your own risk. If info is out of date for Open Beta it will take me a while to update it, possibly weeks or months. I am going to be too busy playing!

I don't think they did anything, outside of testing feedback, that couldn't be done how they're structured now. There are at most 3 - 4 different builds per class. What else is going to go in those forums that can't go in the "class and adventure feedback" forum?
If I want to create a thread about a cleric build I shouldn't have to clutter up more general forums or worry about it getting bumped down to page 3 because of trickster rogue discussion.
Similarly, if I want to read about cleric builds I shouldn't have to sift through Guardian Fighter threads to find them.
You might want to consider that there are only a few now...
But I really don't think we need 30 sub-forums in a few years from now.
But that's all I am saying on the matter for now. *shrugs*
Wait so because at some point a few years from now there might be 30 different classes we cannot have properly organised class forums now which can grow to better accomodate those added classes anyway? That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Even 1 per type would be fine. As it is now we have every class thrown in together with anything to do with pvp, crafting and anything else a person can figure is anything to do with gameplay. Instead of separating out the colours, whites and delicates someone just decided throwing everything into 1 machine would be a good idea (yeah yeah am thinking about doing my laundry )

Having a sub forum for each role (Striker, Defender, Controller, Leader) sounds like a fantastic idea! The forum description could mention which classes fall into each category at present, so that it's more accessible to new players without DnD background.
We could burn a dwarf (since we have no gnomes) on the sacrificial altar to appease the Forum Gods!

Why? Most people are only going to look at the classes they are interested in, if there are 30 classes in the future then having 30 sub-forums is even more important than having only 5 now. Nobody wants to deal with wading through 29 other class threads to find the one that interests them. Splitting it by role will make it eventually worse than it is now, 30 classes, 4 roles, 7 classes in each section is too much. I can't think of a single reason why any forum user wouldn't want more sub-sections to make finding things easier.

If I had to guess, it might be because empty or semi-empty forum sections make a game or community look dead even if it isn't. The message traffic here has been solid, but not so high that topics would quickly get pushed off the first couple pages. If you spread this over too many forum areas, it may look too thin.

Only the Beta Forums were getting wiped, which was already done.

Should be divided on the basis of primary role. It is something I suggested more than a year ago ...

However if they were to be added I wouldn't want a separate section for every class.
I'd rather see Striker, Controller, Defender, Leader.
