What kind of balancing approach will you be directing the development team to take when tweaking and reworking the classes?
In the pen and paper world of DnD players are often presented with a great deal of freedom in how they choose to play their character and it still be viable. But in many MMORPGs classes are often forced into a group role (i.e. tank, healer, DPS, CC). Which one of these camps will you be favoring in the upcoming reworks?
Also, Bard, Confirm or Deny? >_>

I also agree on the feeling of rolling for loot in a dungeon. Back in mods 1-4, I ran the epic dungeons religiously, even after I had my gear just to help other players or guildmates. There was excitement when you killed a boss, hoping the right piece dropped for your mate, or that they got lucky in the dungeon delve chest.
Now...the end of a dungeon is pretty flat. I appreciate that gear is buyable and grindable through other currencies, but there's just little sense of excitement without the best gear actually dropping in dungeons. And by dropping, I don't mean 0.005% chance because the developers want certain things to be ultra rare and prestigious, whatever that's worth (I'm looking at you, Legendary Rings).
And now that I think about it more, just loot in general is wicked awful for tho most part. These days when you kill a group of mobs, I look at 99% of what flies out in piles, and it's all junk that's not even worth the effort to pick up.
Finding magic items and getting cool stuff out of piles of treasure after a hard fought battle is another cornerstone of D&D that feels like it's been long absent from Neverwinter for a while.
You gotta remember, this is not D&D, it's an MMO that uses Neverwinter D&D as a base.
Differences:
Going into a D&D Dungeon you generally have level appropriate armor and weapon and at the end you are rewarded with a few (or 1) better than the dungeon equipment for higher level dungeons. When you get level appropriate equipment for higher level dungeons you go to them and get even better rewards and on and on forever.
It takes longer than 1-2 days to make it to level 70, the D&D experience levels take longer and each player learns their craft/class slowly and steadily. My first toon took about 3 weeks to get to 70 and there were a few quests in Whispering Caverns and Mt. Hotenow unfinished when I hit level 60.
There was no PvP, everything was about teamwork and cooperation to finish Dungeons & adventures. The cooperation used each player's strengths to mask their teammates weaknesses and they did the same. Roleplaying had a larger or smaller part to the adventure. Loot was on best fit to make the party stronger.
Wizards could identify magic for free to the party, but for higher level magic a scroll may be needed.
Everyone who wanted a bow and could afford it could have an appropriate one. Bows were very useful in whittling down hordes of enemies before it got to HtH combat.
Class balance was a bad idea like Team balance Basketball from the 1950s. (You could have a 6' 11" Center, but the rest of your team had to be 5'6")
There were no Runes/enchants, but weapons and armor had which are the same thing.
There was not a lot of busywork

Invoking
Professions, and what professionals had was useful to the player.
If you wanted 4 sets of Plus 6 Armor for specific tasks and had the Gold to buy it, you could have it
AD was invented because carrying millions of gp was a pain.
Unfettered Capitalism was the norm, PC and Socialism were unseen.
Monsters didn't scale to level.
Hirelings were rare, less so if you had a Stronghold, which had to be granted after you made NAME level (9-11)
Similarities
PvP can teach teamwork as can Dungeons.
There were many currencies, but if you stayed in one area only ancient gold coins from dungeons) were seen.
All the mounts used could be acquired, but a character could die trying to tame some.
Gold was plentiful and prices were high as a result. (Note: 1AD = 10,000 gp), now 1 gp = 180,000 AD.
You could build a stronghold.
Sometimes you needed 2-4 sets of armor maxed out to run a character.
Cooperation is needed in Dungeons.
With voicechat you can do roleplaying.

Question: When are you going to fix RP so that we only need to rank up 1 enchant without the qualifying Rank 7, 8 or 9 to get up to ranks 8, 9, and 10. It's so easy to just add the additional amount of RP to the Rank 7, 8 or 9 and upgrade it to the next level as with all the other levels?
This will unclutter our packs/bank slots and give us more room to put stuff to donate to the Stronghold coffers. Plus we will have space for 3-4 (PvE, Black Ice, Everfrost, Drow, PvP) armors we can switch and space to hold the enchants for that number of armor sets.
I play Neverwinter both on playstion 4 and on pc I was wondering is there any plans to make any type of connection be tween the 2 versons? (ie play on pc then pick up where u left off on playstion or vice versa ,or make it cross both platforms )
I think a lot of the good questions about the game have already been asked, so I'll post a couple low-stress "getting to know you" type questions:
What's your favorite food?
If you were stuck on a deserted island and you could only have 3 things, what would those 3 things be and why?
What's your favorite non-D&D related book?
Really.... Having participated in other Q & A sessions with the Devs.. these types of questions make me rage the most. Because it's typically the ones the Devs focus on as time wasters and to distract from ACTUALLY important questions... ty for being an accomplice in their spin tactics... -.-
Quite a few of the questions that people want answered, can not be answered due to NDA. So I give alternatives. I'm sorry if you don't like it.
It's not really an AMA then is it? More like an I Might Answer Something. Or not, which at least is in keeping with current Cryptic tactics.
@mimicking#6533@strumslinger Question (minor): what about future plans for gear/weapons? gear that is good in any content not just one dungeon.
Question (very minor): what about making more ways to generate threat? dread warrior and ring of charging bull are the only ways to increase threat. besides getting more power or something, wasn't really including this cause just about everyone gets base stats.
Welcome! I'm hoping to be able to listen to the stream on Friday - but it depends on what work demands from me. As a PS4 player but long time ADnD player I have a few questions/requests.
Story: 1) I would love for my race/background selection to affect the world's perception of me. My TR is a Drow, and they send me into the Underdark to slay Drow all of the time, but no one seems to have an issue trusting me or even considers my race. 2) Smarter dragons - Dragons weren't supposed to just be large stupid beasts - they had super high int/wis and often out smarted the PC's. I want a dragon that we truly interact with/don't necessarily have to slay. 3) will we ever get to go to Baldur's Gate? I'd love to see what has become of it since I was last there with Minsc a few hundred years ago 4) Where are the good dragons? 5) I'd be interested in some Blood War story telling. 6) Interaction from the gods would also be interesting to add - I picked one in the beginning, apart from invoking I would love to have my religion play into the story some how.
Game Play:
3) More (but not necessarily more powerful) endgame gear sets to chose from. It seems like there are only 3-4 end game sets of any value to really work toward. I don't really want ones that are more powerful - just more options for different play styles that are viable. I hate when in a game the end-game has everyone wearing the same gear because it's the only good option. 4) More places for companion tokens and Coal Wards to drop 7) Mote farming - this is not an easy task for a healer/buffer, characters shouldn't have a damage minimum to get the motes.
Besides that - Great to hear you are back on our game! Welcome back!
Welcome Mimic! Thank you for the opportunity to raise these questions/ideas. I hope this is the start of better communications between Cryptic and us!
Ravensky has made some really great suggestions here about how the story could be enhanced and, perhaps, made a little different for each race and class. I love these ideas, especially the story ones; I've quoted the ideas Ravensky posted that appeal to me personally. I know we have a few additional quests for each race/class but I don't think they go anywhere near far enough.
With regard to the motes, I gave up trying to get them. After doing countless HEs I only got one on each character (SW and GF) and finished the EE campaign without getting any more so I would welcome mote farming to be looked at.
I won't be able to watch the podcast as I'll be working but if a transcript of it could be posted somewhere so we can read it that would be great!
Mimic King... ironic name for the new Lead Developer after recent changes to NW Economy. In the game, a mimic is something you posing as a blessing but when you interact with it.. it attacks you. I also thought that the Guild SH Coffer being a Mimic was an ominous sign...

I don't think that's a valid argument since none of us here know what the NDA covers. I've signed hundreds of NDA's over the years. Almost all of them were very specific as to what was covered and what wasn't.
Mimic King asked us to ask to submit questions; that's what we're doing. If he chooses not to answer some or most of them, for whatever reason, that's his choice. Asking questions about his personal life preferences, while possibly interesting, in no way provides us feedback on the game itself. Why else are we here?
I aim to misbehave

So yeah...I gotta say, that a great way to summarize some of my feelings on the last few updates to Neverwinter.
More specifically, my questions is: How do you add content that sounds great and amazing without it ending up feeling like a trap to players?
For example:
Dungeon updates: Great! Level 70 versions of all the dungeons coming soon. Years later, nothing. We have plenty of dragons, where are the dungeons?
Trade Bar Update: Not only keeping coalescent wards in the store, but reducing their cost was met with trimuphant cheers. However, all that joy was crushed when they were removed for "reasons".
Guild Strongholds: Awesome idea to give guilds ways to work together. Implemented to be such an enormous grind, particularly with one of the biggest roadblocks being guilds ability to earn influence being gated by running the same few HE encounters on one map over and over and over, for potentially years.
Neverwinter Combat League: An actual PvP league that adds great rewards and incentives to PvP. Here for a bit, then disappears completely without a mention.
Legendary Rings: Again, great way to add variety to our ring slots. Sadly, a drop rate of 0.00005% means that only the chosen few will actually experience the joy of seeing one drop, let alone it actually being useful for their character. And with such a huge grind put in front of people, very few actually chose to participate in the hunt for legendary rings. They are, literally, legendary.
Summer Festival Cosmetics: Holy hamster! Awesome, just what this game needs! Finally, a few more cool cosmetic options. Grind to actually get them during the Summer Festival? Soul-crushing...for freakin' non-stat cosmetics...(can you tell I'm still a little furious over this?)
Relic Armor: Great! A new, more powerful armor set is being released with Module 10. Oh wait, the grind to keep it empowered is so ridiculous, it's literally impossible to earn voninblood fast enough to maintain it.
Gatewaygate: Probably don't need to rehash this.
And those are just a few examples. I'm sure we could fill this thread with more bullet points (maybe let's not).
So again, that's my question to you.
How do you promise and promote "awesome" content that's actually awesome when we get to see it in game, and not a hype-trap that leaves us all scratching our heads?
Not entirely a question, more of a comment/request really. With the recent shutdown of the Gateway, caused in part it seemed, by the botting activities and their strain on the devs (as suggested by Panderus in that thread), is there any chance some of these resources could be used to at the very least fix some bugs and add assets to the Foundry? Not even feature changes, just prop/mob additions and bug fixes that are simple.
"But what you really probably want to know is, ”what’s my angle, my skin in the game?” Pretty easy, really. I can sum it up in one sentence. Let’s tell stories."
I really want to hold you to that, though I know it's vague enough to cover a broad array of activities.
Love yourself, and focus on the rest of the madness of life later.

Are there any plans in the works to deal with the RP grind? It's not fun, and I think it's probably encouraging more people to want to bot. Having to progress an artifact through millions of RP in small tiny little chunks is not fun.

-Are Spellplague, Dread Vault coming back for lvl 70 and not a low noob lvling instance? -Are you going to make more dungeons like FBI? -It's been months we're told "we want to reward players for the time they spend in game'". Do you really think the loot table of FBI is that rewarding? Do you really think the loot table in all dungeons are that rewarding?

Agreed. The RP grind is probably the main reason there are bots.
Four pages in, no reply... Still waiting, but continue!
Yep, hopefully all or most questions will be answered during tomorrow's live stream.

Now comes the fun part. I’ll be doing an “ask me anything“ live stream on Friday the 23rd at 2pm PT where we can get to know each other better. Andy has posted a blog announcement below. In the meantime, I’d love for you to prime the pump and ask questions here. I can’t promise to get to all of them on stream, but I’ll do my best.
• Dungeon Revamps • Powers and class Balance • Strongholds • PvP • Professions
mr. Foss i am lunatic, so i hope tomorrow livestream will be full of drawing the lines and sharing the vision of future neverwinter, which is extremely desperately needed. nothing is worse then sweeping changes every second month and burning land remain without any light of hope. this needs change, otherwise numbers of playes will continue to drop and there will be only bots left at the end
• Dungeon Revamps - its over the year and majority of dungeons are still removed. unacceptable, unbelievable. this should be top priority
• Powers and class Balance - i expect this is already in works, but remember, some powers of already balanced classes still need work and fixes (HR roots). HR, GF and Sw are not finished
• Strongholds - expand it if you will but no more power creep, especially at PVP. Current boons should be halved for PVP
• PvP - share a vision. Any chance for brackets? If not then ok but tell us and we can move from there. premade lobby que and solo que. new NCL and better rewards overall are desperately needed (it was like that before). Make tenacity only as character stat when enter pvp. when this is done, then make new pvp mode. Remember, let us know tomorrow, whats reasonable and what is not reasonable, share a vision, we can together work on. Better say sad news for several, then everyone experience silent wasteland of eternity
When are you going to create an area like Neverdeath Graveyard again? You have a general area to get a quest but they send you to a place that has its own quest line like with Tristopher Chettlebell. Instead of a quest to go to a place on the map, you go to a door/portal which takes you to a different map all together for you quest similar to the Common Sense quest.
The quests can be setup from one NPC to go to another NPC in a different adventure area which you can complete these quest and return to the original NPC for completion similar to what Harper Boward does in PE with common sense. Both of these can be wrapped into a storyline so it doesn't seem grindy like go to this NPC and get quests complete quests then move on.
Also will you create scalable dungeons for a party of 3 or 5? This way you can your friends can enjoy a dungeon that will be just hard enough no matter what level you are.

Thanks again for being a big part of Neverwinter, and I look forward to our adventures together!
Welcome!
Will there really be more mimics? That sounds scary! They might be fun in the dungeon revamps though. Big bad mimic boss?
What kinds of cute cuddly furry things can I look forward to in the future? We are missing quite a few Owlbear mounts and companions on the console versions. I want them all for my collections!
Looking forward to seeing you and Andy on stream and I hope there are more Neverwinter streams soon! We miss ya'll!

As always, the books fill in 98% of the missing storyline and background.
I likely read the novel in the 90s, tho it looks to
cover his gaining the ring, and not the current story.
I often wonder how people who've never read any of the books
feel about the game.
