Profession: Alchemy

All the other professions earn experience as they create items. Why is it that with Alchemy, you only gain experience when you do the research!? This has, by far, been the most difficult profession to advance, especially given the low rate of "Basic Alchemical Knowledge" as a reward when doing experimentation. Can this be fixed please?

God I hope not. Most will agree Alchemy is one of the fastest and easiest professions to level. Sure, there can be times when it seems luck is kicking you in the backside. But even on a bad streak, it is still far better then having to spend days, if not weeks, grinding out gathering tasks just to advance to the next rank.

Don't get me wrong. I'm generally the first to sound the rally cry against the pain that is RNG. But after leveling far too many professions to count to level 25 across multiple characters. I found alchemy was the fastest and far less painful of any of the professions.

And its one of those I've had to do on all my alts due to those blasted unified elements. A task I found far more agreeable then forcing myself to level up jewelcrafting or (shudders) leadership. I still have PTSD from that and thats with only a small handful of alts.

For me, it is the fastest and easiest one but it is also the most frustrated one. If you have planed it out what to do, it is not as bad. Basically, I made enough material in batch (I don't buy) that I don't really care about the failure rate that much. Having colour workers help a lot too. Stashing every probable potion involves also helps.

I do the same. If you've got 30+ each of every type of potion banked, fail streaks are just something to shrug off. Replace as needed. Don't make anything that drops from mobs, just save them from when you play a character through.

Same here. I stash all the potion (which is not char bound) picked up by the 'young' characters. I think I keep way too much though.

When I level Leadership on a toon, as soon as I open up the fouth/fith slots I start on alchemy. It's by farrrr the fastest prof to level to 20 to open up new slots. May cost a bit in pots from the AH, but all good to open up those last prof slots.

Edit. Not sure if you're levelling alchemy as a major profession or just to open up the extra slots. In my opinion, and this is just from a solo unguilded players perspective (no Mastercraft here) - Leadership and more Leadership is the way to go,

My latest Alchemist is 82 experiments in Level 2 with no research notes to show for it. My second and third have been fighting over the potions necessary to advance past Level 20.

I do Alchemy profession an all new characters, stacking resources, and then going ahead for the experiments. Looking at the bags and never removing unstable potions: it takes about 18-22 unstable potions of each size to advance to the next size of unstable potions. The chance of success increases as you move along. Also I think there is a time gate there, I usually don't succeed if I do experiment two times in a row. So, just be patient, keep doing it in one of those free slots, and every now and again have all worker bees collect resources.

And I keep all those potions found and send it to my alchemist character to later send it to those in need of it.

I have set up one repository in our guild vault for potions. Several players/characters are using them for Alchemy purposes, which is what it was set up for.

I've done this too. I think there are only two of us making use of the resource currently, but it's there (and gets them out of my personal space).

Would sure like to know the secret ya'll share, because Alchemy has proven, by far, to be one of the most difficult .. second only to Leadership!

I got stuck for a few turns in alchemy as well on level 8.

That was when I discovered that I still made "Rank 7 Experimentation", though the task "Rank 8 Experimentation" was available as well.
4 experiments later I had the two required "Basic Alchemical Knowledge" scrolls.

The difference to the other skills is that you can not parallelize it. And it takes only 7 minutes to craft a new potion, so this skill needs more tending than the others.
But it is also faster than all others to get to 25. If you buy the Aquas and other resources in the AH.

Most difficult profession? I could say nop. Try lv up leadership to rank 23. ;) I maxed alchemy faster than leathercrafting, jewelcrafting. For me it took ~25 days only. If i would put some astral diamonds to rush up experiments I would maxed alchemy in ~15 days or even faster.
Alchemy only is expensive because you need potions which are for low lv players. And they are expensive compared to 70 lv potions.
And as for rates,, they are not so low as you claim. Plus if you fail you get unstable potions which either transform you to bear/wolf, increase/decrease your size, intoxicate your character or even buff :) Its not like you fail and get no reward :)

It took me 2 2x Prof events to max alchemy. I insta finished the tasks though (333 each with an epic Alchemist), and bought pots from AH (all of 'em)

It is not the most difficult one. It is the easiest one. This is the first one of my N toons that I can level up to 20 in a short period of time. Basically, you need to have a plan. You use all your slots to do prepare stuff for the up coming experiment. If you think you made more than enough to cover failure of the current experiment. Use the slots the made stuff for the next experiment. I usually can level to 20 within 2 weeks. I don't buy anything (besides using gold to buy from store). I made everything and many stuff are just the stuff my toons pick up from the ground.

My GWF and HR have been stuck at rank 2 Alchemy for months. No research notes have been dropping at all.

It is either a bug or you missed something. I usually passed that within hours (if not within an hour).

Yeah, I know. I've started on my DC to see how that goes with him.
