What will Cryptic do about Harassment in eDemo?

kurtb88kurtb88 Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 597 Arc User
There are players who enter eDemo and they don't stand on the circle, they stand off it and laugh at everyone asking them to stand in
the circle so it will start. This is harassment and there is NO WAY for us to do anything about it..

Just now it happened, some loser kept laughing at everyone and held us all hostage, after several minutes of this people just ran out the door
and exited the skirmish. There was no other choice for me but to do the same. But this meant I was now locked out of joining any skirm or dungeon for a frikkin half an hour. This loser must be laughing his butt off at us all and at Cryptic for making such a ridiculous system that encourages and empowers losers like him to easily hold 9 players hostage, harassing them all and getting away with it.

These types of players are the worst and I support name/shaming them in-game.

Griefing is against the ToS. Please report the ones who you see doing this. Get screenshots and/or video to help support your claim.

Do not do this. You will end up getting a warning from one of us for a signature violation, and possibly infraction points.

This is where the report feature on the support page and Fraps come in handy. Pretty simple to get this guy banned. At least for a few days. Record, F him or click his portrait for his @handle, dump on youtube and report. Goodbye.

But hey, who actually makes an effort of proper reporting these days? Well, I do. And so should everyone else. It works.

this takes too much effort and time to do. the HAMSTER already ruined 9 players skirmish, and destroyed their ability to play any group content for the next half an hour, do you really think anyone would want to spend the next hour of their life documenting everything with videos and screenshots, then filing it to Cryptic, then uploading it to youtube? that would magnify the damage done to your day by ten times...

how about allow players to votekick in eDemo but only during the opening part, then shut votekicking off after everyone is on the circle and the skirmish begins.

    Agreed.
Reporting is the way to go.

Although, a simple system that kick a player if 4 other players agree would not be bad.
I mean, 4 vs 1 is a pretty safe mode, or?

This is ridiculous, it is not the players "job" to police the game they play. It is the developers job to provide a competent way to deal with idiots such as the one described. The last thing I want to do, is run Fraps all the time and suck more system resources away from a game that is already a hog.... then remember to record some tool that is doing this.... then save it in the right format and upload it up to a youtube channel ... then wait a week only to see the same guy doing it again..... They don't perma ban, so that is moot...

Cryptic needs to provide a VOTE KICK SYSTEM that works...

Hard enough to get enjoyment from this game lately, even with the Mod9 stuff that was leaked to look forward too... Last thing I want to do is to spend my time playing "cop" when the game should have utilities built in to handle that.
Every MMO relies on players reporting rule violators. The previous vote kick system was getting abused. Blame the people who abused it. The game has utilities built in. The Report system.

So- just to be clear so I know if myself or my guildmates encounter this- What is the 100% correct way to deal with these people who intentionally grief people who want to run Edemo Legitimately?

What value is there in kicking competent players? Turn vote kicking back on. Let the responsibility of reporting abuse be on the kicked person.

@kurtb88 - your solution is easy. use premades to avoid the trolls. Also add him to your ignore list so it reduces the odds of ever seeing him again.

Anyone with Windows 10 can record pretty easy too. Just hit the Windows button + Alt + R to start recording, and hit it again to stop recording. :D No extra downloads required.

Unless Cryptic dramatically changed how "ignore" works and didn't tell us, it won't prevent you from being grouped with someone. It only blocks their chat.

his post was 100% fail, lol. he also said using a "premade" will avoid the problem, but eDemo is a 10 man, it's not so easy to have 9 friends on whenegver you are wanting to run it, and sync them up in two groups to queue together. sure, it's possible, but how realistic is that for the vast majority?

I've notice it hasn't worked for pvp pugging but once upon a time I know that it was considered for match making. If that's changed I apologize but it should definitely be fixed. Anyone on my ignore list should not be gifted with my support

Believe it or not there are a lot of people using coordinated queues with full parties to avoid pugs. There are channels set up just for this purpose and I recommend everyone join one if possible (same for the hell that is tiamat farming). Anyone caught trolling on those channels risk being kicked from the channel and therefore stuck back in pug que hell

I never heard of any channels but I notice those eDemo groups in LFG are almost always asking for 3K+

There are different channels, I'm in some as low as 2.5. Some will require that you interview with them by participating in other content (skirmishes or dungeons). However, your success rate will be higher with the the groups with the most stringent requirements.

I stopped reporting bad behavior, after I complained about someone, who insulted me and my group members with words, that would all get censored here. As a matter of fact, my initial complain was denied for abusive language. After I explained, that to report abusive language, I have to quote it, I was told, to put him on ignore. Thanks for that. Very helpful. I never would have done this on my own.

Due to the fact, that there is no visible policing of behavior in game by cryptic and all the self policing (vote kick) got deleted, trolls and abusers can have all the fun they want.

As mentioned in the other thread...
+ vote kick should only come back for premade groups

+ for random groups, if a player doesn't participate in any group event in a meaningfull way, he should just get replaced automatically.
the account gets flagged and the player receives one warning, the second time something like this happens, the account can't get into any group events for 1, 3 or 7 days... in game time of course.
I do believe in killing the messenger...
    Want to know why?
    Because it sends a message!

Don't forget that when (not "if") we get proper queues for 10+ people, people can run content like eDemo and Tiamat with full premade groups, which should significantly reduce the problem for a large number of players. Yes, this will still be an issue (and perhaps a worse issue) for random PUGs, but they will always have issues of one kind or another.
    Hoping for improvements...

The report system isn't particularly functional. You apply a profanity filter to the reports, refusing to accept any such reports with detected profanity in them, which makes it basically impossible to actually report players using racial slurs and viciously attacking people verbally etc with anything more than a "ooooooo, dis dude sade a durty wurd, I'mma tell momma!" sort of style. And one of the reasons I turn the filter off in chat just compounds the problem: it's riddled with false positives which ruin routine chat. Just go ahead and try to talk about an item that's priced at 80k with your filter on, for example. It's one thing for me to just ignore people that are bothering me. It's a completely different thing when official policy is to let people just be bombarded by people who will spend an entire instance insulting races, genders, nationalities, etc. Because clearly it's not the company's problem to dissuade such people and remove them from the community, it's all up to us to filter out these HAMSTER one-by-one for ourselves.

And GODS FORBID you should try to actually report a bug in this game through the game. I'd sooner light my testes on fire.

I regularly load up into non-pvp pug parties with people on my ignore list. It does nothing.
