Are you new to Neverwinter? Or a player who's returned after a long hiatus? Have you been adventuring for months, yet still feel a little lost?
Are you confused about a recent update or patch, or have questions about the newest campaign?
Then we have a place for you:
NW_Newbie!
Unrepentant Gaming is sponsoring a new channel with the goal of giving the players of Neverwinter (both new and old) a place to ask all those dumb questions, get answers, or find help in an environment that's fun, friendly and open to all.
And the channel isn't just for advice. If you need help figuring out a quest, have a question about gear or builds, or need help getting through a dungeon, please feel free to ask.
The channel will be moderated by officers of Unrepentant Gaming, but it's open to all players from every corner of the Neverwinter world. And even if you're not a newbie but really enjoy helping your fellow players, we highly encourage you to join and offer whatever sage advice you might have.
Here's a few rules for the channel:
Rule 0: Always be respectful. We're not cartoons. We're real people. Behind every sentence and every question is a real person looking for help. We expect you to treat people the same way you'd treat a friend OR stranger you just met in a coffee shop or bar.
1)
Don't be a jerk. Should go without saying, but this channel is suppose to be helpful and friendly.
2)
There are NO dumb questions! Something that may be obvious to a player who's been here since launch could be totally alien to a new player, or someone returning after a long break.
3)
Answer questions that you know the answer to. Don't speculate or guess. If you don't know an answer, hopefully someone else will.
4)
Don't be overly negative. If an ability is broken or not working as intended, that's one thing, but don't tell someone their class sucks, that they should reroll or quit the game.
5)
Be helpful and constructive. It's not a channel for rants about the game, criticisms of the latest patch or a megaphone to talk trash about PvP.
6)
Be careful about talking about Preview Server stuff. I know it's a hot topic right now because a new Module is coming soon, but don't answer question with speculation. If someone's asking a question about what might be changing, please answer honestly, but make sure you're open about it being a "pending" change.
Now, I know what you're thinking. I'm really AM a newbie! How the heck do I join that channel?
I'm glad you asked!

Noobie Help: Quick List of Stuff I wish I knew before I learned the Hard Way
Which is exactly why I made the channel.
Back when I started playing MMOs (over 20 years ago) "Newbie" was a term of endearment. Communities looked to connect with people new to the game, and help them have fun and become part of the community. Being called a "Newbie" wasn't an insult; it let people know that this was a person who was looking for some help and friendly faces
You can tell a lot about a game by how the community treats it's newest members, and sometimes MMO communities in general aren't all that welcoming to Newbies even though a constant flow of new people is so critical to the success of any game.
So ultimately, we're taking that term back from anyone who would use it to degrade, insult or reject another person.
NW_Newbie. Newbies welcomed!

Is it plural or not?
But seriously, great job. I will be joining the channel to help out. (The NW_Newbie channel, not the other one!).

Newbie/Newb is fine - it implies you are inexperienced, but willing to learn. It is the version spelled with 2 O's that carries negative connotations.

I imagine once Module 6 comes along, things could get a lot busier in there (hopefully)
I also wanted to add that if you're a player who isn't interested in a guild or grouping, but occasionally needs help from other players, or just looking to chat about game stuff, don't feel shy about jumping in the channel.
The channel has been fairly quiet when I've been on, but people have made an effort to answer the few questions that have been asked.

Yeah, white companions max out at level 20. Green 25, Blue 30, Purple 35, Orange 40.
You can upgrade them, but it takes a pretty tidy sum of Astral Diamonds to do so. At this point, I wouldn't worry about it.
When you hit 70 (or even as early as 60) you're going to probably want to pick up an Augment pet.
Here's the Wiki entry for those. They don't actually fight, but they do add a hefty amount of stats to your character, which can sometimes be more useful then an actual companion.
