Those drops, when they were BoE, essentially created an item out of thin air (worth a lot of AD) that players could sell. This item's worth in AD added a significant amount of AD to the economy/exchange. So BoE drops actually put more AD into the game. As you said, the AH fee then magically takes a small amount of that AD back out of the economy/exchange.

Now that those same items are BoP, they aren't adding nearly as much AD to the economy/exchange, since their only value in terms of AD is what you can get from salvage.

BoP items are actually slowing the amount of AD being magically added to the economy/exchange, which is probably the original intention of the developers.

A few things about what you said:

    1. When Coal wards weren't BoP, you could sell them on the AH. The ADs that someone would spend on them weren't created out of nowhere - someone had to have them already, and part of that cost would be eaten up by the AH fee. Even then, the actual enchantments you can make aren't BoP, so you can simply see what enchants are most desirable, and sell those on the AH instead.

    2. For actual purple items, AFAIK, the boss drops are still generally BoE, so those can still be sold - it's the DD chest items that are BoP, and that's been the case for a while now.

Am at a lost here...I have one account with six level 60 characters (one of each class) that I play daily (and another GWF lvl 60 that my grandson plays when here), and all focus on the leadership profession...yet the most AD I can earn daily is from 4000 to 5000 each character (depending how often during the day I can log in). None of them are at level 20 yet, but getting close. Since I only have the basic 'farmer', that's all the AD I can pull off. Yet doing it this way over time (am a Caturday survivor who didn't take part in the scam), I have been able to put epic gear on all my toons. As a disabled player (lost use of right hand and legs in auto accident), I rarely take part in 'partying' and do no PvP as I can't type and run/fight at the same time, so earning AD that way is extremely limited. But I still LOVE this game and will continue to play indefinitely. (Have played DDO, SWO, GW2, etc. in the past)
So, anyway...for me, if they change the leadership profession to stop the ability to gather AD, I would be severely gimped! I have bought zen with cash before, but on a limited income, I can't do it often. So please lay off the leadership profession. Go after and ban the bots, instead of punishing the rest of us!

Items that are found generate no AD themselves unless salvaged.
You pick up item A and sell to Person B who has to already have the astral diamonds to make the purchase.
You did not generate any AD into the economy, but actually took 10% of whatever the item sold for out of the economy.
So BoE actually sinks AD from the game as weird as that sounds.
that's a good point - I would revise my statement to say that Item A (BoE) doesn't create new AD, but rather encourages a new AD exchange.
    Where'd my blinky-blinky path go?
