Lets say you get random Bind on Equip good item, and want to see what it looks like... is there a way to tell how it'll look before you equip it?
Same question for companions... is there a way to tell what it actually looks like before you equip/name it?

If you have the item in your possession, you can access the menu to change appearance without equipping it. You may need to remove some of your current gear to avoid issues where item appearances will overlap, but you can get a sense of it. You can even do this with gear for other classes to see what it looks like. Cloaks are still hard to see because your back is shadowed even when you rotate the view.
There is no way to preview an item from a store or the AH, short of buying one on the preview server (tough for anything that doesn't come from a merchant with a fixed inventory).
Companions, if you're not familiar with their appearances from seeing the hundreds of thousands of men at arms and cleric disciples that belong to everyone else, I'd mostly just quickly refer to the internet.

Even if they are still unbound, you can right-click a Companion in inventory and choose "Inspect" - get a full preview along with all the stats, die and all that stuff. There does;t seem to be an "Inspect" feature for most other things though.
Becky - I was afraid of that. Also, having to Google something that I currently possess to see what it looks like before I bind it forever is stupid. Perfect example: I didn't know my druid was going to be an old drunk/sleeping guy.
Angry - thanks, I'll have to try that when the server comes up
So is it just me.. or has anyone else brought up how terrible it is that you can't preview items?
Any idea when they will have the server back up? Will I lose all of my **** coins for the week on my toons as well? Bad enough you almost never get a **** coal ward any more without getting screwed due to an outage.

Event companions are actually on display on the event dais in PE during the event. Platform down the stairs from Knox, same place to gather information about pretty much every Neverwinter event ever.
Lots of people bring up the lack of previewing as a flaw, yes.

Still, I should be able to tell wtf they look like before I have to name them.
You could right click on the companion and click "Inspect Companion" to preview what they look like before naming them.
And yep I was also shocked to see a mushroom-icon companion turned out to be an aged midget, which fortunately wasn't bound.
