If you go to the telescope, theres nothing to do.

I was enjoying the winter festival, as mediocre as it was, until the zenith event went active. I would have hoped that someone would have been smart enough to make the event long enough to have actually made both rewards from Stars of Fortune possible, or at the very least, double the rate of gain along with the Lights of Simril.
So now that my own hopes have been dashed, its time for a more realistic look at the event itself, as the "holiday magic" has faded, and we are left with the rotten remnants.
First: Twilight Run, had the most promise of all three events, but the randomness of the bonus bags, and that they are only collectible by one person, effectively ruins what isn't already ruined by the bug that slows you to below walking speed and forces you to dismount, remount and certainly not make the next rally gate in time to score points. Overall, it was a great idea implemented as if kindergartners were put in charge of project management.
Second: Monsters on Ice, or as many of us have renamed it, Rangers on Ice. Due to the ranged attacks, and 5 target hit capability of Split Shot, Rangers don't even really have to try hard to dominate this competition. I play a Ranger, and I certainly enjoyed consistently being able to top the scoreboard by mass killing goblins and leaving the trolls, golems and giants for everyone else to deal with. Even if for some reason, I did manage to pull aggro on something I couldn't kill in the first volley, I could always run off to the nearest player, and watch as they blindly tossed damage at it till it left me alone, usually netting me the points for the kill anyway. Control Wizards had similar benefits due to range and volley options, but generally placed below a Ranger that understood the mechanics of the contest. Overall, it was unbalanced, unfair and generally unfun, even as the dominant class.
Third and Last: Fishing, seriously? Has anyone working for Cryptic Studios or Perfect World Entertainment ever seen a fish, much less tried to catch one? Biggest problem is when fishing, your fishing pole has far less to do with what fish you catch or how well you catch them then your bait (or lures) placement, actual skill, time of day, weather conditions including temperature and barometric pressure and the how much the fish in an area are disturbed. Having done some real world ice fishing, if some jerk came running up to my hole, and started dropping in a line, he better be wearing chainmail underwear, because the filet knife just might be coming hard and fast, not to mention that his walking across the ice itself will spook every fish in the area with every step, ICE ACTS AS A SOUNDBOARD. Running from hole to hole, not only is a major safety hazard due to slip and fall accidents (into 32 degree water which can kill in minutes by the way), but you certainly wont make anything remotely close to a friend out there acting like that.
Sure its a game, and you have to accept some loss of realism when anyone tries to digitally recreate something from the real world, but I have seen Tiger Electronics, LCD screened, hand held fishing games with more realism and skill involved. While I understand the reasons for holes closing, and skeletons popping up (consensus is its mostly to thwart botters) and the quality levels of the holes changing, but the better solution might have been making all the holes white, and not having the skeletons spawn during the contest, so that there are not people running all over the ice with skeletons chasing them to interrupt other fishers and manipulate the scoreboard. The bait items, crafted and looted from fished up bags, are a distinct advantage for sure, but I would think that likewise during competition they should have had no effects.
I have managed to accumulate sufficient numbers of Lights of Simril for two Fawns between my two characters, but as others have stated, the fawn, for the amount of work required, should have been at bare minimum been blue quality. In the time it took me to gain 3200 Lights, I also gained 200 Drake seals from dungeons while only running them during dungeon delves, and purchased the Wererat pet, which took far less effort, was well more enjoyable and is a blue quality pet.
All in all, I give the Winter Festival a grade of about D+ to C-, it managed to give us something to do to pass the time, but few truly enjoyed it for its full duration.
I'll weigh in with some feedback regarding the Simril Lightcrafting. This won't be about rewards, but rather the grindfest that is refinining light pods/motes of light. A 2 minute task for a 4:2 conversion is fine, except when you're refining several hundred light pods/motes of light. It's a pain to try and do those tasks while you're fishing or racing or fighting. A 10-15 minute 20:10 conversion task would have been great. Also, people are complaining about the rings of light and winterkill emblems. Giving them as rewards for the Twilight Run and Monsters on Ice is fine, but once we've upgraded to rank 3 of crafting, they're worthless. And they're not discardable... whose bright idea was that?

The zenith only added two "new" things, one of them just being the Hero's Feast that was available from the Midsummer Festival. And this one requires you to use a ton of fish to make it. Sorry, I'd rather use those fish so I can earn Lights of Simril at a pittance.
This is rather unfortunate. The midsummer food ingredients weren't needed for anything other than the crafting, so adding the Hero's Feast then was a great way of using them up, plus all those surplus portable altars. This time around, I really can't see anyone wanting to use their hard-earned fish for it (much as I love both the buff and the art for the Hero's Feast).
Most of what you're talking about is only really interesting to a fishing enthusiast. We're unlikely to get any kind of event activity that can't be grasped by the average person in 10-15 seconds (or at least the basics).

While the winter festival is enjoyable, the summer festival was better. Mainly because it felt like less of a grind since it took less time to get the same amount of currency. Also the crafting was better. There were better options for crafting and it made better use of the drops from the contests. Rings of Light and the Emblems from contests needed more uses then they had.

All you guys must be playing a different Winter Festival...
...Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go catch one fish, then AFK again..
I am sad to say it, but I agree with most of this.
Even though I liked the event, I can't deny that most of everything is ruined in some way by bugs or unbearable redundancy. In Monsters on Ice there are the HR Seismic Shot effects that don't disappear. In Twilight Run there are the slowdowns. And the fishing... well, between the skeletons, the freezing holes, the painfully small rewards and the fish getting away, fishing is the worse thing. On top of all that, the one event that needed a boost in rewards more than any other, did not get the boost. This is supposed to be the most reliable way to obtain Lights and they made it the most boring and annoying event.
You can see they had some pretty good ideas, you can tell there was talent and passion put into it, but holly HAMSTER was the execution rushed and thoughtless! I really liked the zone, and the general atmosphere. I had a lot of fun running the different events for the first few times. I liked the easter-egg jump over the lake. It's amazing to see all the work and creativity wasted like this. They need to understand that there has to be a balance between fun and grinding. Standing in the same place and pressing F for tens of hours while "fighting" the RNG is not fun at all.
I got a Fawn, just to have a reminder from this winter's event, I am not gonna punish myself any longer. I rather just run and mess around in the event area than taking part in any of the events.

OP, any update on this?
It follows therefore, that this young man will be as unfeeling, as unthinking as the dead, until the day he joins them.

^^ This. I don't know if the PWE overlords are demanding that they make this game more of a grindfest or what, but the time spent vs. reward isn't reasonably balanced in terms of the fishing. That and getting stuck refining all these stupid light pods 4 at a time. I guess I could just stop fishing and I won't get anymore... or just throw away the ones I have, but I need the motes of light for the light clusters. There really needed to be a mass refining task.

In full agreement with this. Summer festival was a lot more fun and in particular Midsummer Trolls was much more enjoyable than Monsters on Ice. Some of that is likely due to the Seismic Shot bug, but this feels like a serious grind. Fishing is fun but only to a certain point since the ROI is so low. I'd rather not stand in place pressing "f" for a random return. May as well just add slot machines to the game...

Ok so now that we are at the Zenith, I am less then impressed
EXPECTATIONS - what I was hoping for for the zenith period
Stars from trade bar vendor - YAY! (only real useful thing from zenith)
Double the lights from turning in fish - FAIL!
Add profession task to send worker out to just gather lights - FAIL! (was in Summer Event)
Add another item to the Star Store allowing people to turn in unused stars for a bag of lights - FAIL! (was in Summer Event)
So out of the 4 things I had hopes of they did 1 - Seriously let down by second part of the event......
Doubling down now and no less boring to farm the fawn. Plus you didn't address the tons of those globes from the run and the shields from the Monsters on Ice that we're still picking up with nobody to give/sell them to for no apparent reason. The two new items in the profession are, to say the least, lame, especially since it does not address the flood of lure things we get from fishing that greatly outmatch the 2 minutes per it takes just to use them.
You can see they had some pretty good ideas, you can tell there was talent and passion put into it, but holly HAMSTER was the execution rushed and thoughtless! I agree with this but the event was so badly executed , I think I was expecting more from the Zenith than we got . I was expecting the whole Dwarf Priest area to be put to some use , why is that even there? I really hope the Christmas event for next year is completely reworked because if this is all we have to look forwards to then ......

I agree aswell the summer festival was fun and you could enjoy yourself and work on what you want to buy without any issues. This winter festival is turning more and more into grinding for what you want. I wanted the Healer companion which is 3200 I just did the fishing event (Rank: 17, Score: 150, Blue pole) and I received 30 during this zenith event. So my 3200 companion means I have to do this 106 times and it was about 15mins so thats 106 times X 15mins=1590 mins (26 hours 50mins) for my little green companion. B-( Summer was better and I could turn in my daily tokens for bags of the other currency to help so I didnt have to do so many events. Other than the high prices I do enjoy the event but after hours and hours of farming it turn more into work than fun. If Im going to have to spend 27 hours farming it should be atleast blue. I still have 3 sets of appearance armor and 3 pigs from the summer event so I dont mind farming some but this is just ridiculous. Even more so if you have more than one character that you want the companion on and most of the stuff is bound so you get to start from scratch with fishing pole and all.

Getting the purple fishing rod is easy. Should take only a couple of hours. You still have time to do it. What are you doing with all the lures you are getting/making? Lures make a huge difference. Make sure you are at least touching each event. An easy 9/18 lights for a couple minutes. Don't just fish during the fishing event. It is a grind after all, so fish as much as you can. Open the bags and use the lures. Use them! Don't run nilly-willy trying to go from purple fishing hole to purple fishing hole, you waste time fishing during the event. Pick two and shuttle.

Thank you zdaddyo, Ill try your advice. The healing merc is the only thing I wanted for both of my level 60s but after hours and hours of fishing and not being even remotely close to the 6400 Lights and estimated a total of 54 hours just for the two healers I gave up on the whole event. Ill try upgrading that blue pole and try your other tips. Thank you for the advice and good luck.
No problem. I've got two fawns and with the bonus I'm hoping I can get a third before the event ends. Personally I enjoy the fishing competition and the hill sliding. The combat not so much due to the HR bug. Hate that bug as it makes the whole village slow down and you have to jump from instance to instance to try and find one that is decent.

Problems!! I went to the trade bar store to get Stars of Fortune and none were offered for sale.
For next year
1. Ten day festival.
2. Triple Rewards for fishing, and no double prizes until day 11.
Horse runs still dominated by 110% mounts and lag spikes!
Monster hunt still dominated by HR and CWs and Seismic Shot bug!
Fishing still not giving double lights for fish!
STILL no use for Ring of Lights and Shields!
A 50% stupid horse still at 3000 lights?!!
Comments
Who told you that?
Don’t worry; with the changes coming to the event you’ll be able to gain more Star of Fortune tokens. You can now get your fortune multiple times a day, and Star of Fortunes are now available in the Tarmalune Trade Bar store.

Oh cool , I searched for patch notes on the forums but never thought to look at the news page , thanks for the heads up.
Edit - Nvm , found the announcement , no patch so no patch notes on the patch notes part of the forum ,just an announcement in GD .
How can we gain more stars and fortunes when
you have already done the quest for the day
and the Mayor doesn't give you any more.?
If you go to the telescope, theres nothing to do.
Also as has been said, the stars are not yet added,

i've already brought this up to the CMs so hopefully this will be corrected soon.
