So are refinement points permanent and will not disappear whenever an upgrade fails?

Yes, you only loose the reagent(s) (previously known as "catalysts").

u'll lose refine points when both enchants that u wanna fuse are overcapped! u only get the overcapped refine points from 1 enchant, so take care which one u refine!

You don't need to refine an enchantment to use it as a catalyst, I don't think.

Or you just mean anything that carried over from a prior upgrade?

Once the enchantment is higher enough rank, it will need another enchantment of the same type and rank to use as a reagent.

    Right.

I mean, if you're trying to go from a 7 to an 8, then you have two 7s. You've been refining 7-1 and you get enough points to upgrade. 7-2 is your catalyst and you don't need to have refined it at all except when you were making it a rank 7 in the first place. but it could have refining points that carried over.

I was asking if xmousepadx just meant that if you had points carried over from upgrading 7-2, that you'd lose those, using it as a catalyst.

will you loose the needed enchantment reagent when upgrading like the catalyst?

ye u will lose ur refinepoints on the one enchant that works as a catalyst. so always upgrade, refine the one with the highest overcap to keep ur refinepoints.

Ok, this is still very confusing to me. What is a catalyst (or whatever else it is called)? I have taken many of my equipment enhancements to their maximum. Sometimes they go to 40%; sometimes they to to 90. How do I "UPGRADE" them to the next level? If I need "REAGENTS" (whatever they are) what are they and where do I get them? I am getting extremely frustrated with this!
