Welcome to the Malabog’s Castle Guide

Version: 1.1
- Updated Guide with more detail and monster information.

In this guide we are going to cover the basic flow of the instance from start to finish and a couple of ways to fight the bosses and each boss unique mechanic’s. This guide will be filled with spoilers.

To start we will cover some of the more notable monsters in Malabog’s Castle and some of their unique abilities:

Note: I may have the monsters name’s spelt incorrectly and will update them next time I run the dungeon.

Name: Wither
Size: Small
Class: Caster
Special Abilities: Full Heal their allies. (Note: When casting full heal spell they will raise into the air and lock on to ally with blue laser. To stop them you just kill caster, kill locked on ally or interrupt cast by knock back, prone, singularity or other interrupt CC ability.)
Noteworthy comment: When they summoned or enter combat they will normally say something about Blood Magic.

Name: Power
Size: Small
Class: Melee
Special Abilities: AP reduction. (Note: When charging up their AP reduction attack, they will lock a red laser onto like Guardian Fighters Knights Challenge. Once they finish charging they will dash to target and remove AP. To stop them you must kill them or interrupt by prone, knock back, singularity or CC ability.)

Name: Thorns
Size: Small
Class: Melee
Special Abilities: AoE Knock Back / Silence. (Note: Red Circle around them and interrupt to stop.)

Name: Shamans
Size: Big
Class: Caster
Special Abilities: Casts AoE Circles that stays in location for several seconds and does a large amount of damage.
Notable comments: Immune to Knockback, prone and Singularity.

Name: Totem??
Size: Big
Class: Melee/Caster
Special Abilities: Casts AoE silence
Notable comments: Immune to Knockback, prone and Singularity.

Name: Witch
Size: Big
Class: Caster
Special Abilities: Casts AoE polymorph
Notable comments: Immune to Knockback, prone and Singularity.

Recommended Trash Kill Priority:

#1 Withers – Always kill
#2 Witch, Shaman, Power
#3 Totem
#4 Thorns

Always kill withers as they are the only healer the enemy has and their full heals can be very frustrating for teams with low damage and cause wipes. If you focus down the withers and then work on killing shamans, witches and powers the fights go pretty smooth.

We now are going to cover recommended team composition and the role within the team and how to properly burn trash quickly.

Recommend Team Comp: (1 of each class – Low Gear Score 10-11k)
GF: Tank or DPS builds: Hold threat on Elites
GWF: Off-Tank small mobs and burn down
CW: Singularity small mobs and burn down
TR: Debuff and smoke bomb after singularity is down, kill withers and elites
DC: Heal party and kill withers and elites

Low Gear Score / DPS teams can easily beat the 1st and 2nd bosses by taking it slow and properly pulling and burning packs down one at a time.

How to pull & burn trash quickly and efficiently:

Line of Sight Pulling:
If possible your team should be out of the line of sight from the enemy pack and your teams Guardian Fight should walk into the line of sight and use Mark to pull. Then the guardian fighter runs back to his team while they wait for pack to run to them. (Note: Big Elites walk slower than small trash and this gives a good amount of time to burn down small mobs prior to large elites arriving.)

How to properly burning trash using Singularity:
Singularity is one of the strongest and most effective skills in neverwinter to quickly gather and pack mobs into a tight bunch. During singularity the entire team should be using their daily’s that increase damage and dishing out as much damage as possible to quickly kill all of the mobs. Also note that with the mobs bunched into a tight area TR’s and GWF’s can use their 3’ wide arc heavy hitting attacks or CC abilities to hit all of the mobs.

Do’s and Don’ts:
CW’s should only use shield at the start of singularity and never after the team has started their burn phase or at the end. By pushing the mobs away you are causing a massive team DPS lost and the purpose of packing them together.

TR’s should use smoke bomb at the end of singularity if many creatures are still alive. This will give your team additional time to burn and save lives from the sudden upset creatures about to lay waste to your team.

GF, GWF, DC should NOT use knock backs or other abilities to push creatures away just like CWs during the burn phase or after. This reduces the purpose of gathering the creates into a tight group and again reduces team DPS.

If needed and/or your team is running with a 2nd CW or your CW has recharged their AP they can start the Singularity again and continue burning the trash till it’s all clear.

Recommend Team Comp: 1 of each class (Highly Geared 13k+ Teams)

Since your group is most likely very experienced and BiS gear in rank 7+ with weapon/armor enchants you should be able to quickly burn the trash using the Singularity method mentions above. Instead of using GF LoS pulling have your CW cast Sing on top of the Elites and entire team burn trash on top of elites. With the right amount of DPS gear and experience you can clear MC in about 35-40 minutes without using exploits.

1st Boss:

Boss Mechanics:
This boss teleport around the map casting frontal cone attacks, random circles with AoE rain of fire, melees and summons elites. Also during throughout the fight withers, powers and thorns spawn and are not linked to the health of the boss but appear to be a timed mechanic.

How to beat easily beat the first boss:
Low DPS Teams (10-11k GS)

This fight is all about controlling the amount of adds and killing them as soon as they spawn. Always focus the withers as they will heal their allies as soon as they spawn and this can be very frustrating for a low DPS team.

The boss can be easily controlled by the Guardian Fighter and the team just ignoring the boss while elites and adds are still up. The boss does not hit very hard and his big attacks are easily moved out of. As long as your team does not burn the boss fast you’ll have more than enough time to kill the elites and burn adds before returning to boss.

High DPS Teams (13k+ GS):

With a high DPS team you can just focus the boss and ignore all of the adds to include withers as they do not heal the boss. Once the boss is dead begin to kill all of the trash and elites. This is the fastest method for this boss and very do able with a high DPS team with medium risk.

Secret Boss (Optional):

After you beat 1st boss you can follow sparkles till you see a door to left. If you open door you will see room with many spike traps. Going that direction you'll find (3) Treasure Chests and a hidden boss that drops nothing.

2nd Boss:
Note: When you enter the room have your team walk to the left and have your GF pull the trash away from the boss and kill them. Once the room is clear you can start the boss fight.

Boss Mechanics:
This boss casts an AoE Shield about every 25% of health and it does a lot of damage. The boss also has a frontal cone attack, a large 240 degree arc swipe and a triple over the head attack. After his swipe he will normally do his triple over the head attack and stay in this animation for several seconds. Players can easily position him during this series of attacks so it does not hit team while allowing team to burn him down.

Note: Once the boss dies all of the trash and elites disappear. So once the boss is low on health and your team is able to quickly finish the boss off without much risk of a team wipe. Switch to killing the boss and ignore the trash.

Low DPS Fight Recommendation:
During the fight trash adds will spawn along with elites and as the first boss it’s recommended to burn the elites and trash down. Anyone can tank the boss as his animations are easy to dodge by just walking around him in circles at the base of his feet. Once all of the trash and elites have been killed go back to burning the boss till more adds spawn and repeat process.

Once the boss is killed there will be several RED Wizards that spawn next to the door going to the next room of the castle. Make sure no team members are close to the (Right Side of the room) door leading to the next area before killing the boss.

High DPS Team Fight Recommendation:
Ignore all of the trash and have the entire team burn the boss down with casting singularity on top of the boss to kill trash adds. In between shields focus and kill elites as necessary and return to boss once shield drops. It should only take a couple minutes to kill boss and move to last boss.

Low DPS Teams: At this point after you have killed the 2nd boss it is recommended to save you time, a lot of frustration and gold. That your team ends their adventure here and starts another run to clear the two bosses again or go farm T2 dungeons for better gear/enchants.

CN Trash before last boss: (Val loves her Red Wizards.)
Now that you have cleared the 2nd boss, killed the Red Wizards, entered the next zone and quickly scare the dragon away. You now get to face one of the hardest challenges up to this point so far Red Wizards and Commanders.

Low DPS Teams:
Since your team is a gluten for punishment and ignored the heed of warning you will need to pull the pack in as small of groups as possible. Have your team stand way back so the dragon can’t breath fireballs at you and your GF LoS pulling 1-2 guys back at a time towards the back by the stairs and once cleared move onto the last boss and a very long fight.

High DPS Team: Do what you do and kill the trash and move on.

Last Boss:
Boss Mechanics:
This fight consists of several stages and different mechanics during each stage and VAL being a pain throughout the fight.

VAL (Sexy Lady stand on cliff):
- She will randomly cast magic bolts at entire party doing small amounts of damage.
- She will randomly cast an AoE attack with a big circle on the ground.
- She will do in rotation:
1. Teleport to one of your teammates and drain their life till she is killed or your teammate dies
2. Teleport down and summon a portal. During portal summoning you can stop her by killing her. If your team fails to kill her, you must destroy portal or it will continue to summon elites.

Note: It’s random if he will start with the portal or teammate life drain but she will cycle back and forth between them after she starts with one.

Dragon:
Entire Encounter:
- Tail swipe (Do not stand behind, always to the left or right side)
- Bite (GF can tank from front but will be knocked back by bite and take a small amount of damage no reason to block.)
- Frontal Cone attack (This can be a 1 shot kill and do not stand in the big red)
Note: This can be bugged and sometimes hit outside of RED and this is why tank should always be in front and having boss faced away from team with team on sides
- Fire Ball (Small random AoE Area, stay out of red)

- 75% Health: Will fly into the air and start map wide AoE attack. Stay out of the red area during this attack phase as it lasts several seconds.

Phase 2:
After landing the dragon will enter phase 2 and add additional attacks.
Note: His threat table is sometimes bugged and will randomly select a team mate and focus that person during the entire phase.

- Very Large AoE push back with medium damage. He will lift into the air and do a massive wing swipe covering majority of map. The AoE area is much larger than the red circle and everyone should dodge, block or sprint out of area if low on health.

- 25% Health: Will fly into the air again and do map wide AoE, stay out of red.

Phase 3:
After landing and same as phase 2 his threat table can be bugged and will randomly select another teammate to attack. Next additional attack is:
- 3 Small AoE + Body AoE: The dragon will cast 3 small AoE spots on the ground and after these appear all melee range players MUST run away from dragon. He will instantly cast an AoE Shield that can quickly kill everyone in shield. After shield drops you can return to melee.

Note: The animation is sometimes bugged and you will not see his Shield animation or red circle appear but take massive damage. Your team needs to be very vocal when you see the 3 Small red circles to run away from boss.

As you can see both bosses have interesting mechanics and each boss separate would be pretty simple but combined that makes a nasty pair.

How to kill the last boss:
The Guardian Fighter will tank the boss with his head facing away from the team with the team all on one side of the boss able to see VAL. Once VAL leaves her perch everyone must focus VAL and kill her ASAP. She will then re-spawn back on her perch.

If she manages to summon a portal the entire team should tank the dragon at the portal till the portal is destroyed and focus on elites. Once everything is all clear, start back on the boss. This process will repeat till you kill the dragon.

The fight is pretty straight forward but a very long battle and if team mates die to VAL’s Life drain or red circles or other silliness then there is a good chance you’ll wipe.

Note: You only get "TROLL" spawns on the last boss if you did not kill all of the trolls on the first stage when you entered the dungeon.

Good Luck and Happy Adventuring.

You can add: if you skip too many NPCs you get 20 trolls in the boss room.

Dont forget, this will get fixed so it would be nice to know the tactic to use once that happens. Enjoy exploiting (not hating, just saying) while you can, and yes there will be more ways to exploit, however, again its good to know how to do it legit cause eventually youll have to.

Decent Guide, good to the point write up!

I would say you want a full rainbow party. TR-DC-CW-GF-GWF.
You could replace the GF with something else, but it actually shines here.

In your kill priority I would say Witherers and then Powries then adds > boss.
I tell my teams to destroy both of those mobs as soon as they are seen.
Losing a daily is a big deal, Everyone losing their daily is a BAD Deal.
As soon as that works smoothly, the adds and the boss are easy.

Yeah it sux having to leave parties for it because they refuse to do it legit. Maybe its just Beholder server that doesnt like to do things legit. The whole thing is so easy its stupid to glitch it but yet they continue cause its cool I guess.

Agree with you about the 1 of each class. That's what my guild runs have been and really smooth. The power guys die pretty quick normally a few hits but just wanted to point them out as some people haven't figured out what each of the new mobs do yet. That AP drop is sure annoying. /lol

Best party for me is dc 2cw gwf + tr/cw. GF doesnt really have a place because of low damage, low mobility and the boss seems to have random aggro a lot after first phase.

Bad GF give us all a bad image.

I'm normally #1 damage with my last pug run over 16Mil with 2nd being a TR with 11Mil. Only time my damage is outdone is with my buddy GWF because he's also geared.

15.8k GS GF built for DPS/Tank Hybrid.

You mean "a bad GF doesn't really have a place." A well-played and fully geared GF is a massive asset - and can put out some serious damage. If they have also socketed a perfect bronzewood enchant they will also hold aggro with ease. :)

More like: "BAD <Insert Class Here>, doesn't have a place." Any experienced player even semi-geared is welcome as they don't cause wipes.

I've been hearing good things about the bronzewood. Once our Guild Leader finishes each of the new enchants I'll test them on the PTR and see which does the most damage. :P

You must have played with a scrub GF using all defense gear or something. A good GF should outdps a TR and GWF in Malabog. Good CWs will always top the meters though. If there is any class that's not needed it's unfortunately a GWF.

I'm glad to read this since it's the exact same experience to me. CW is usually our best DPS and then I come (TR) with GFs (yes we even have 2 in my regular party). GFs do great damage and allows pretty efficient tactics for the first and second bosses. Unfortunately GWF seemed too squishy to hold bosses' adds. Don't know if they are good again after the last mini-patch.

    Guild Run from last night:

    45 Minute Malabog Run
    #1 CW ~13k GS
    #2 GWF ~13k GS
    #3 GF ~16k GS (ME)
    #4 TR <Very Under Geared>
    #5 DC
1st to 3rd our damage was all nearly the same less than 1 Mil difference between us. While the TR was under geared he is a very experienced player and so we just had him stacking wicked.

A properly geared GWF will do about the same damage as a CW, TR, Hybrid GF. The game's damage appears to be very balanced and if we had one of our ~13k GS TR's in the run it would have went faster.

This -- I normally do really well as a TR in the damage meters (i'd like to think), but in Malabogs, I am consistently out DPS'd by a well geared GF.

Kcramp - It's because Malabog is full of large mob packs and GF's are designed for AoE and with CW's AP generation down and no corners to push mobs into TR's are single targeting damage.

Also when you are looking at GS ratings:

GF will have 3+k more GS than any other class if they are Conqueror spec due to reckless feat.

    GF Top End - 16k T1 / Blues to 17k T2 / Epics
    CW/TR/DC/GWF - 13k T2 / Epics

If you are close to 13k or higher as a TR then you are about capped gear and your damage should be about equal to other DPS classes. 1-2 Million Difference on a dungeon run with a lot of large packs is normal. But if you are 3+ million less than 1st you might be doing something wrong or bad build. If you are in a guild and have TR's that do considerably more damage than you ask them what they are doing.

Yeah, I figured I also have a bad build as I am specced mainly for PvP -- but I love PvP so much, and PvE is not always open for me to complete in the select 4 hours I have free a day. I want to enjoy the game -_-

If I spec PvE, I can be worse at PvP and then spend a lot of time waiting/hoping for groups. Or I can spec PvP and be worse at PvE and be able to always login and have fun, and then run PvE when I get a chance.

It's a tough choice, might need to re-roll another TR.

-edit- but I also am only 11k ;)

Actually Roll another GWF for PvE Only. This way you have a PvP GWF and a PvE GWF and become an expert GWF player. :D

Honestly, no class should even be within 3 million damage of a CW that is using the right gear and spec (gwf won't even be close). Unfortunately I think most CWs haven't let go of a lot of their bad habits from last patch. It's true that nearly any group comp can clear MC if they understand the mechanics and are smart players. None of the fights are dps races and are more about situational awareness and teamwork.

Exactly, there is no way any class can do more damage then CW in Malabog, and if they do it means the CW was just really bad :)

I fell stolen from Perfect World devolers!!! I unlock Malabog's castel but i need 9200 Gear score?!!! I only have 7500 with epic itens.
I spend 50.000 astral diamonds for...nothing, i can't play this level. Before unlock there is no requirements for users, so i think they must degrase the score or give my astral diamonds back....

My question is, if the dungeon costs 50k in AD just to enter the place, how long before you get that AD back by doing the dungeon (on average)? Is it worth it from a cost-benefit ratio?

Personaly I think it sucks you have to pay to enter a dungeon, and the fee is not small. But if I have to run the dungeon 15 times just to get my "money" back that does not sound like fun to me, that sounds like a "boring grind".

Q2 when you played actual pen and paper D&D did you do the same dungeons 20 times? No, I don't think so.....

The follow will be a short guide on Malabog's Castle and how to beat each boss.

    Trash Kill Priority:

    1. Withers - Small Goblin Healers - When they spawn they say something about Blood Magic. They also have cast the Blue Beam of Light and full heal their teammates.

    2. Shamans - Big Trolls that cast nasty AoE Stuns

    3. Tormentors - Big Ogres I think and upgraded Shamans

    4. Power - Small Goblins that cast red laser beams and remove all AP from you.

    1st Boss:

Guardian Fighter stays on boss holding aggro while entire team kills all adds and then boss after adds are gone. Boss will randomly teleport and attack someone. Stay out of reds.

Note: Last few % when Witch is summoned have team switch and kill witch ASAP as she polymorphs team.

    Secret Boss (Optional):
After you beat 1st boss you can follow sparkles till you see a door to left. If you open door you will see room with many spike traps. Going that direction you'll find (3) Treasure Chests and a hidden boss that drops nothing.

    2nd Boss:
Same as 1st boss. Guardian Fighter holds aggro while team kills adds while avoiding red circles.

Note: Guardian Fighter the boss has a big swing attack you can block and then walk around him as he will do a triple attack and you can attack boss while he's attacking thin air. Boss also has a frontal cone attack so keep boss pointed away from team. Boss also has an AoE Shield that he'll cast throughout fight and range can still DPS.

    Last Boss:

    Kill Priority:
ALWAYS Kill VAL when she comes down. Team needs to be on voice chat if possible and 1 person assigned to watch and call when she drops down. Everyone saves daily's for when she comes down and blow her up ASAP, if fast enough she will not summon portals or kill teammate.

If she does summon a portal then kill portals 1st and adds 2nd.

If there are no add's, portals or Val then everyone on dragon.

Guardian Fighter tanks Dragon from front facing it away from team. Team attacks Dragons sides ONLY, do not attack back as there is a tail swipe that does a lot of damage.

Phase 2: When Dragon drops to about 75% HP Dragon will fly up in air and start Entire Map AoE. You need to stay out of RED during this phase.

End of Phase 2: Dragon will land and randomly target a team mate. That team mate now has to kite dragon around while team goes back to phase 1 tactic of killing VAL, Portals, ADDs.

Phase 3: Last 25% Dragon will fly up again and do AoE after he lands phase 3 starts.

During Phase 3 dragon casts a group of small AoE's and will also cast an AoE shield like 2nd boss around his body which will 1 shot teammates. So when you see the group of small AoE's around map run away from boss ASAP. Range can still attack dragon during this shield phase and once shield is down go back to melee.

NOTE: His Frontal breath attack is sometimes larger than red area so make sure to away melee by his rib cage and not his NECK or you can sometimes be hit by breath and it can be a 1 shot.

Also there is a bug that if a teammate completely dies DO NOT have them res back at the campfire as they can get aggro of dragon and he'll get stuck on gate which can make the fight very difficult.

This was an OK guide, some key things that were missed.

    a) Do not run into any rooms as a group, let 1 person pull.
    b) Rogues can easily off tank all bosses in this instance.
    c) Final boss fight, Val life drains 1 person in your group every 60 seconds, (and alternates summoning portals so if you see her cast a portal.. guess what 30 secs later comes a life drain) you need to discuss positioning so the group understands they can spread out for everything else but the group needs to come together before the life drain to kill her quick. Don't worry about trying to stop a portal just kill it after its down because Val comes down in random places for the portals and you will waste time running to her. Just wait till it is down and kill it and deal with the add.
    d) only 1 person needs to destroy the portals. When a summoned add comes just group it with the dragon and kill it.
    e) Dragon boss, lowering the bosses resistances does wonders...
