If you were thinking about getting addition character slots anyway to roll a new toon, now might be a good time to get them. No, they aren't on sale or anything that I know of, but, I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that any "current" characters will receive the free respect tokens from the upcoming patch.

@Cryptic - maybe you are missing a good opportunity here for a quick sale, nudge, nudge.

Not really a guess - they said that they'll be handing out tokens :)

It's just common sense. I rolled additional characters before the Caturday gift pack too...

Free accounts aren't as cost-effective if you have account-wide unlocks.

True. There is some benefit to having characters on the same account though, not much, but some.
Hopefully in the future Cryptic will give us more incentive to keep characters on the same account.

the respec token cost is only 6$. its actually very reasonable compared to most f2p games.

if only the rest of the items were.

Except you're wrong. If you have account-wide unlocks, free accounts are more profitable for Cryptic. But don't let the facts get in your way.....

Yep. I spent a whole 500z (oooh, break the bank!) on a basic horse. I've now used it on ten characters. A whole 50z per character (and 50g saved).

...also, when I finally get around to converting some AD to get a faster mount, it'll be nice to have that on everybody. Oh, and it's also nice to be able to convert the AD from all those characters into one account's zen. Rather than a little zen on several accounts.

...and then the free respec tokens are bound to the character that receives them, so all your throw-away characters get tokens that they'll never use and can't trade anyway! Huzzah!

    ^ This.
And I see no point in buying more yet, since I'm waiting for the other races / classes to be released...

Not necessarily. Let's say you have a CW already like me. Now I can make one each of the 4 other classes and when I get around to playing them, I have a respec token available so I can shuffle their powers/feats once I get them leveled. Assuming you create the characters with some purpose, it's a long term savings of $6 per character.

    Are you joking?
While alot of the items you purchase with RL dollars are overpriced, the 6 dollar respec token is the one thing that's truly a ripoff.
I see a respec as almost a game mechanic. Everyone does it, and sometimes quite frequently....not in this game, unless you have money to blow. Jeez, while we have to pay big RL dollars for a respec, why not charge us to cast dailies? Say 1 dollar daily tokens to use your dailies.
    Give me a break

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread

most f2p games charge 15-20$ for a full respec.
I did say in comparison to most f2p games.

when you play a f2p game you should realize right away that you are not going to respec constantly.

its yet another reason i prefer monthly fee games, it allows more player creativity and i enjoy playing around with different builds, but it is what it is.

Are you aware that all the classes are going to receive at least more 2 paragons paths?

And I fully expect that when such a major change happens to a class, Cryptic will hand out free respecs, just as they are going to do for the Launch patch.

50 possible character slots. Fast leveling.

Why wouldn't you have a character for each path?

    ;)

    I will. ;)

I did with DAoC... ended up having to transfer 120+ characters (many of them level 50) when they consolidated to one server (Ywain).
[45 classes, 3 paths each class, 21 races spread over 3 realms] No wonder I played that game off and on for ten years LOL

Do we know for sure that they're handing out respec tokens and not just auto resetting our feats/powers?

to add onto what he said, with the other games charging 20$ to skill reset there are games with sub classes to each class, and guess what... you have to pay 10~30$ depending on the game to change classes/jobs. 6$ for everything is fair compared to others that charge much more and don't do everything. Although in my opinion 5$ would've been a better number to go with.

There are no guarantees in life. All we can say is that it's been Cryptic policy in the past, and they appear to be continuing it in NW.

Okay, there is one guarantee in life: Zombie Apocalypse.

No, Cryptics policy is to offer free respecs when powers change. Not when powers are added. The new paragon paths will be new and treated no differently then when they add new classes. I don't honestly expect anything in the way of respecs when they eventually come along.

Unless of course they dont give out tokens, and instead just reset the spent points for all characters on the server to 0.

Besides, I am not buying an extra character slot until I can roll a dragonborn paladin.

It has already been said by Neverwinter on their Facebook page that respecs will be given out.
