I dig being in the TS channel, everyone is super helpful and we have good laugh whilst everyone is working on their projects, however, I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and I'm going to critique the critiques
1) As mentioned, I think the scoring is kind of all over the show and in part this is due to the fact that people see anything less than a 3 star as being terrible. I think 5's should be reserved for something that has no issues (even if it isn't completely to your own personal tastes) as being a sure sign as being best in show. I'd personally recommend taking some time to break down your scoring and work out where your stars are coming from, this isn't really necessary for most people who do it anonymously but I think the way in which this is presented then something more structured would be beneficial as opposed to scoring on the fly. For example, giving a score out of 5 for different key elements of a quest:
Dialogue: Covers typo's, detailed conversation options (is it any more than just a "Continue" to get more text?), creative dialogue options, etc.
World Building: Terrain layout, exploration options (accidental because of no invisible walls?), flow of the "dungeon", item placement (good or bad?), pre-fab or self build? If it's a pre-fab have they actually done anything with it to make it unique (though this means you guys knowing more about he pre-fab stuff so you can instantly recognise it)
Encounters*: Well placed? Well balanced? Re-decorated/re-named? Do they seem appropriate for the quest? How did the boss fight feel?
Story: Doesn't have to be an absolute lore fest, but there should be a half decent written story, extra points for optional detail. Or does the story feel bland, tired, preditable?
Score each item out of 5 individually, add up all your points then divide it by 4 for your individual ratings, or by <insert number of players reviewing> for the overall group review, add a couple of points for stuff you really enjoyed that was unique, or really created an atmosphere when all the elements were combined (likewise feel free to pull something down a little more). This way at least people can compare where they are at, but again, be careful about aiming too high too soon with no room for the good stuff that comes later.
2) I'd consider (maybe on authors request?) running some of them solo but still having the group comment on the look and feel of the areas. You get absolutely no taste for whether an encounter is balanced if you are running it as a five man group all the time given that quests dont scale for group size. If someone has geared a quest to be solo then you really dont get an idea if it's good or bad when you rip through it with a large group.
3) When you are playing as a group then I'd say stick together more. Too many times people run ahead of the person streaming, killing mobs before the person gets to them or potentially triggering effects off camera. The streamer should be the group leader and people stick on him. Maybe once you have cleared an area take a moment to explore the edges individually looking for bugs or nice details, etc.
4) Be careful about hammering the same criticism. I was watching the quest last night where you kept describing it as schizophrenic over and over. After a while I thought "If I was the author then I'd probably be feeling a little downhearted by now". As you're a group it isn't exactly one person saying it over and over, but I think once a point has been made then just watch yourselves for keep going back to it. There are of course exceptions, if the same thing is repeated over and over (no invisible walls was a good example) then it should be constantly mentioned.
5) Don't laugh when pointing out something wrong or bad. It's hard not to do, but it was done once or twice (though I don't for a moment think there was any malice or nastiness meant). Putting your work on public display is one thing, having stuff you've done badly laughed at is soul destroying. Folk need a thick skin to let you guys do this to their creations, but I believe some people probably don't know how critical (albeit constructive) you guys are, so might already be pretty sensitive. No one likes being told their stuff is bad, but even more no one likes anything they've done being inadvertently laughed at.
6) Help and tweak, but don't redesign. Sometimes you guys make recommendations that would completely alter the quest, like "I'd prefer it if this story stayed in the Underdark and this area was changed"... well that's fine, but it ain't gonna happen if it means a complete redesign of the entire map and story. Sure, make your opinions known, but I'd say still try and work within the parameters of what they've actually done.

This is my first attempt at a foundry, started with me putting a cabin together out of different wooden bits which escalated into this story. It has an Evil Dead kind of theme as the cabin i made reminded me of that.
Great post Chili, I'm looking forward to see what authors out there are sitting on some amazing content we've yet to see.
I have two foundry quests that I spent a collected 200 hours on (I would say 80 of it was learning different concepts and trying different strategies).
I will touch back on this thread and put my information up, but I'm far to sleepy to do it now. If you feel like checking things out you can search for my Foundry quests simply by typing the name in (they are eligible foundry dailies)

Sounds good, looking forward to having these submitted formally.
There is a rumor floating around that I am working on a new foundry quest. It was started by me.
Updated the first page with the next show's information and information about the guild name change due to a merger as well as giving the show a name (previously the name of the guild).
So, from this point moving forward we are "Dungeon Masters" guild and the weekly live stream show will be named "THE FORGE".
Stay tuned(tm) for more information, I may be making a new thread specifically for this reason.
There is a rumor floating around that I am working on a new foundry quest. It was started by me.
5. Brief Summary of the quest: Start of a campaign to find and destroy an ancient magical artifact.
6. Additional Notes (please be brief): There are no invisible walls in the caves, falling to your death is part of the hazards of running around in a cave, you've been warned ~_^.
I'd like to run it with yas if it's chosen. I'm on Dragon, I got vent, but my char is lvl 42.
So first, I want to say thank you for the publicity.
The majority of your criticism is awesome and I appreciate it! Construction pieces on the above hole in Seth's room, great idea! Hut with thatched roof for hay? Absolutely Brilliant! Bar backdrop for the bookcases? What! That is an awesome suggestion! Didn't like where the story went, totally fine with me, opinions aplenty. The rest is some serious nitpicking that the average player will never see/care about. I.e. no ladder to get back up? Uhm there is a door right there...lol. Use your imagination, you just went underground, perhaps you are in sewers?
Now again, the criticism regarding the detail was great during the stream. It was at the end after everyone opinions were stated that it got quite bothersome. All of your original opinions got swayed by one guy coming into vent with an English accent who has no idea what the hell he is talking about, complaining that you guys rated the quest way too high.
What was his argument based on? Complete ignorance that's what. First off, as many of you were lead to believe, no environments in my quest are pre-fab, except for obviously the drow background in the second map, and the lava effects in Mt.Hotenow. The rest, the gears, the steam from the pipes (bothered me how readily sure one of you were that that was pre-fab), the drow buildings, all those purple windows on the drow houses are not on the original models, all hand placed.
At the end you guys seem to have come to the conclusion that I was lazy with my environments and just randomly duplicated some buildings and then flung them about. As supposed "seasoned" foundry authors I was sure you could respect how difficult and how time consuming it is to place some assets, load into the foundry, 3D edit everything, then do it all over again for hours on end. I suggest you seasoned veterans learn what is pre-fab and what isn't instead of being easily swayed by some random voice of illogical reason.
You guys didn't like the slap-stick humor or where the story went. Okay cool, totally fine with that, good criticism; but then to call it schizophrenic. Do you know what schizophrenia is? Are you diagnosing my quest Doctor? You could have used the simple word "inconsistent" and still looked intelligent to your viewers. You may want to consider getting a new vocabulary when trying to describe a quest in your opinion.
Then to suddenly say that if you could go back you would rate it a 3 star? Wow, that easy to change your mind based on nothing at all. You said it yourself, we have all played quests where there are nothing but long hallways and huge rooms full of nothing. Quests where the author does not have an eye for detail in the slightest and look like they hardly put effort into anything, yet I am sure you have rated those as 3 stars to be nice and constructive and not wanting to see it get absolutely nuked into the unplayable list.
As reviewers you should have a rating criteria to consciously follow.
Did the details/environments look appealing without too many glaringly obvious immersion breaking problems? A bookshelf slightly off center or a torch placed a little too high shouldn't influence this. If you complain about the order of those things then by that logic there shouldn't be disorganized books scattered across the ground or piles of paper everywhere. In life things aren't always symmetrical, so why should every detail in your quest be?
Do you think you got that feeling that the author might have been going for?
Was it playable without frustration? I.E. getting stuck in areas of the map, stacking tough encounters, confusing terrain.
Story: If it's advertised as humor, did you find it funny? Exploration, did you wander away from the main quest path and into more detailed environments, ect.
Again, I don't want to be the bad guy here. Your review of the quest was excellent and had some fantastic suggestions and advice that I will definitely put forth in this quest and my future ones -- priceless criticism for those who want it. However, your style of review needs a lot of work and your notion of you being seasoned foundry authors with a firm grip on the tools are a little inflated since a lot of the time you guys weren't sure what was author made and what was pre-fab therefore skewing a lot of your initial opinions.
Thank you again, continue the good work. You guys are doing something essential and helpful for the community and despite these complaints I have, I still support you and everything you do :P

hey there almostcool,
Yeah it's rough going first, I suggested with the guys today to do away with the star ratings all together.
On any quest, my main goal is to offer suggestions and assets that can be used to make environments really wow people, improove performance, or fix any map leaks.
If anything, I hope that there were some take aways that get even more of the creative juices flowing.
I never felt like it was a bad quest and the color pallets used were quite stunning at first glance, I just offer feed back on things I see and what I would do to tighten things up a bit.
It's only meant to be constructive, but as always people are more than free to tell me to shove off if it does not fit their vision.
I hope I helped a little and sorry things got so convoluted with the guys there at the end, I think everyone was struggling to find their "role" so to speak for the first stream.
Thanks for submitting your quest and I defiantly recommend it to folks.

For the record I stuck to my guns on the rating I gave it :P but because of that whole difference of opinion of how to rate a quest, we will not be giving verbal star ratings in the future, if people want to know what we rate a quest they can check the comments after the stream and hopefully play and give their own as well.
Good job on the fire map, I do not look at many premade maps so I didn't jump on the premade bandwagon and I was thinking to myself about why they would put such assets in a premade as (my lore is not all that for the area) I do not recall there being any mechanical structures being there, so I held my tongue on assuming it was. I think the issue was that someone said with almost complete certainty that it was and the others took their word for it. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking it was the case. This can also be the case with calling it schizophrenic, the word got said, and the rest was history I guess for the lack of a better word at the time, who knows.
I will not be apologetic in what was said by anyone else other than myself. I didn't get to say much at all and I tried to be as objective as possible. I like what you did, I thought it looked great and as for the story, I enjoyed it a lot, but it seemed to be less humor at the start and get more-so as it progressed which threw off the flow for me personally. In the end, it's your story and if that is what you like then that is all that matters.
You make some valid points no doubt, we need to work on a few things with the show for sure as we are working out the flow and what this show can become over time.
As for being "seasoned", the Foundry is a constant learning tool. We learn new things every day with it and discover new things in the assets and maps we never knew existed, this will continue to be the case even with someone who has been using it since alpha and there are things I do not know and will probably never know unless I need it specifically for one of my quests. What I do know is how to use the tools provided to make things look and perform like I want that I have yet to see in other works.
With that said, why you gotta kill the little guy? He could have been a great recurring character!
There is a rumor floating around that I am working on a new foundry quest. It was started by me.

Well to throw in here, I can say a couple things:
1. Seasoned doesn't always mean knowing every single pre-made map. A lot of effort that has been going on for quite awhile have been made with quite a few maps just not every single map they've provided lol.
2. Definitely it was our first stream and we will try to correct some mistakes, I think the biggest being... only do ones the author can go along with us on. Watching critiques after without being able to say "oh well this actually is the only part that's prefab" or other little comments along the way just make it frustrating as an author to watch.
3. While being helpful there is also the criticism that will come along with it and folks need to be aware. If you watch the stream you can also see us running the preview of my new map and how we criticize in there as well. We do it to one another, and its what makes us do better. That is the point of of the show in general. Only submit if you want the 'nit picky' because we're going to give it But none of it does the author need to agree with or even the viewers, its just our opinions and we won't always even agree with one another! Which brings up the next point:
4. Entertaining. Which is what we want the show to be. Learn a little with us, have fun doing it and make it something fun for folks to tune into. Whether we're beating up on each other, poking fun at something etc. all of it should always be taken with a light heart!
All of that said, 'the brit' that came in the channel had some very very good points as well and I also agree we will shy away from the star ratings at the end and just summarize our own overall opinions instead.

It was definitely fun to watch! When I say nit-picky I don't mean it isn't worth mentioning. Those little things add up to the overall enjoyment of anyone's quest and they need to be pointed out. It's criticism, you take the good with the bad, it's why I submitted it to you guys in the first place :P
I definitely think it's a good idea to only review the quests with the person and to avoid the star rating since overall its a philosophy that not everyone is going to agree with that has a huge impact on the quest's survival.
5. It's a classical old school quest where you are searching for an artifact. There's a lot of D&D lore in this quest. Players says that's well balanced, there are many things to do and not just fights.
The story will let you to explore open areas and dungeons. Any dialogue let you to choose different options, in this way every character can answer according to its alignment. In the quest you will see many creatures from the Underdark, i will not spoiler nothing more
6. You can see the full descriptions and some images in the thread... follow my banner
Also i think it's important i tell you that Ensligh is not my first lenguage, and probably it's not my second or third The quest should be translated well in english, but i'm not sure 100% that's everything is perfect, probably this post has many errors too!
