THE FORGE Wants to Live Stream Your Quest!

Hello fellow authors, Chili here and I would like to make you aware of a Foundry Author only guild that has formed on the Dragon shard called Dungeon Masters (see below for details on the name change) and that we are hosting live streams of player created content with commentary called THE FORGE.

Next Show: Saturday June 1st 4pm EST | 3pm CST
2pm PST | 22:00 CET (21:00 UK Time)(3 hour broadcast)

Where: http://www.twitch.tv/ellindar

AD Give-A-Way: I will give 1000 AD at the start, 1000 AD at the top of each hour and 5000 AD When we conclude. You must be watching the live stream for details and to win!

About THE FORGE & Dungeon Masters

Recent mergers have allowed THE FORGE guild members to migrate to the more aptly named Dungeon Masters guild. In light of that, THE FORGE is the name we have given our weekly stream show from this point forward as we will refer to it as "Dungeon Masters presents The Forge". The live stream cast boasts some of the more seasoned authors from alpha and the foundry beta (Silverstars) including, but not limited to Apocrs1980, Nyghoma, Zovya, Ellindar1 and myself.

The Plan

Our objective is to have authors submit their quests to be live stream play tested each week and if possible have the author join us, either in game while we play through or on Vent, to give their own commentary on the quest alongside us. We will play the quest in its entirety and each author will give their review and comment verbally on the live stream and briefly discuss what they liked and did not like and any suggestions, tips, hints or tricks we learned along the way to make creating quests easier and more enjoyable for not only the author but the players who play them.

The number of quests we will cover each week will vary depending on length.

We have previously been doing this for fun and we want to try and get the word out there about some fantastic quests that fly under the radar so we thought it would be fun to bring others along for the ride, and help promote authors and their works in the process.
There is a rumor floating around that I am working on a new foundry quest. It was started by me.

We will also be having hourly live stream give-a-ways of Astral Diamonds. I will give 1000 AD at the start, 1000 AD at the top of each hour and 5000 AD When we conclude. You must be watching the live stream for details and to win! I have created a character on all shards as to not discriminate based on location!

To have your quest streamed, we have a few requirements that must be first met.

    Your quest must be:

    1. Able to be completed from beginning to end.

    2. Submitted to Cryptic for Featuring. This means that you feel it is in a “finished” state and worthy of being a featured quest and not a “test” map/quest.

    3. Not a farm quest.

    4. Not currently on the first page of the “Best” option in the Foundry in game listing.

    5. Balanced in genre. This means not a complete hack and slash with no story and not an hour of dialog with 4 combat encounters.

We will preview the quests we plan to stream beforehand to assure they meet these criteria.

    Guideline for Submission:

You can post the submission on this thread or straight to me via forum PM.

Please use this format when submitting:

    1. Name of Quest

    2. Short-Code (Please use ALL CAPS as the game client does not recognize lower case)

    3. In game @handle

    4. Average Length

    5. Brief Summary of the quest

    6. Additional Notes (please be brief)

Alternatively if you have posted a thread on the Foundry Spotlight sub-forum you can link that in your submission instead of the above format.

For authors who would like to play with our stream group there are additional requirements:

    1. Must be on the Dragon Shard.

    2. Must be around the same level as the group (currently we will starting at level 10)

    3. Must have Ventrilo and a working microphone.

Lastly we ask that you are civil and able to accept criticism. We will not be disrespectful or act elitist towards your quest but we will be honest in our commentary, sometimes brutally honest. Mostly, we just try and have fun and would love for the community to join us in doing so.

You can always join us on Ventrilo (information in my signature) or in game through the NW_Foundry channel (information also in my signature) or even whisper me/add me as a friend @chili1179 in game.

    Thank you

One of your contacts told you about a dwarf sage named Altair. He has a knack of historical items and owns a book store called the Introvert.

He is looking for a mercenary, although the details around his intentions aren't clear. Time to pay him a visit

It's a mixture of story and combat, with a bigger emphasis on combat.

Rezade and the Ruins (Part 1 of the False Idols campaign)

    NWS-DA6ZOP3V3

    by @howitzer29

    Length: 45 minutes

A cleric from a distant land hires you to study a ruin deep in the forest. But what you find may bring down her religion...and destroy the entire pantheon.

(I'm unsure if this is the type of quest you guys are looking for, since it's fairly heavy on story.)

    Quest Name: The Spellthief Trials
    Short Code:NW-DM900IFHK
    By @Stebss
    Average Duration: 20-30 minutes
Mission Summary: A secret group of powerful mages have established a magic academy in the Underdark. You’ve been hired to foil their plans in the most epic fashion possible. Work alongside an accomplished Spellthief to steal the most powerful spell-books within the academy and battle your way through a school full of ambitious wizards, witches, Arch-Mages, and their hordes of minions.

Additional notes: My main focus during this quest was definitely details with a humorous story and balanced encounters that are challenging for all levels.

I am totally down with getting in vent/skype to play through with you guys and give my own commentary.

I do however need to make a character on your server.

This is most definitely something that I'd like to keep my eye on! A stream I could enjoy watching. And once I'm finished polishing up my quest a little bit more, I may be submitting mine for review... XD

Having been in the vent channel with these guys the last few days and hearing how much they help each other (they critique, they don't blow smoke up each others ***es) flagging the good and the bad, I think this will definitely be handy for those that:

    a) Would like some advice from folks that, in my opinion, seem to be pretty good at what they do
    b) Want a little extra exposure on their own quest

I look forward to watching the streams :)

Look forward to seeing this! I'd submit my quest, but a weird work schedule and Saturdays typically being used to run my actual D&D game or other things would more than likely prevent me from hanging out to talk shop during the live stream.

I'll be sure to catch the recordings though. Thanks for doing this!

Its good to know we have some interest. If it is something people end up liking we will be looking to do additional stream times so hopefully you'll get to participate in one! I'll be running the stream itself and we'll post that info in the main thread today.

I am reluctant to volunteer, because I feel my quest is too hack and slashy. There is no preliminary setup. But I feel it is no less of a quest than Crypt of Carnage. There is decor to interact with and people to kill in order to unlock areas of the map, I've also included area triggers and other conditionals. The dungeon is kind of linear, so there is not pathing.

Are you guys going to do a pre-run everything that has been posted to see if it qualifies? I feel my quest is well done, but it plays more like a dungeon, which I am thinking disqualifies it. Though there are notes left about in the dungeon for those who are there doing the investigation portion, its just they aren't objectives to progress the story.

I've also submitted it to Cryptic.

Yes, we will pre-play quests submitted as time permits and hopefully in the future we will expand the live stream to more days to cover more quests.

While we would like to keep the streamed quests well rounded, we will come across exceptions to the rule. There are just some outstanding content out there and whether it be HnS or story if an author creates a beautifully detailed world or does some amazing out of the box techniques we want to make sure the community gets to see that as well.

So don't feel discouraged to submit it for this stream!

We also will not spam our own quests through the stream or nag people to play our own quest. The focus is the community of authors whose quests are not getting played, we will just assume that people would want to check out the quests of the guys doing the stream.

    1. Name of Quest: Mage Masher
    2. Short-Code: NW-DKYGGYPUE
    3. In game @handle: @anrix2
    4. Average Length: Various, it has a multiplier setting, but single player is around 20-25 minutes.
    5. Brief Summary of the quest: The mages of Neverwinter have been acting stranger than usual. Go to their guildhouse and investigate the cause of their behavior.
    6. Additional Notes (please be brief): As mentioned this is a hack and slash, dungeon crawl style map. But the setting has been painstakingly crafted, as well as the costumes. There are quest items like keys, and mages that need to be killed to drop wards. So in that sense it is not too straightforward.

Just wanted to drop a quick post about my role in the whole bit.
I'm the environmental guy, so I'll be taking a close look at the maps, environment, details, holes, glitches, optimization, and over all feel and tone the map sets.
I'll be offering constructive criticism and my opinions while we walk through the quest, authors are free to take my advice or leave it, it's up to them, I'll only mention what I think would look great and push the map that much further for a wow factor.
I'm looking forward to steaming with you all and see you in game. :)

Then don't submit it for streaming!

We will not stream any non-submitted quest without asking the author ahead of time and there are plenty of authors who do want their quest exposed to as many people as possible, which is what we are hoping to accomplish.

    - Every great adventure starts from humble beginnings...
That leaflet on the job board read "Easy task, golden pay, meet me at the Moonstone Mask, you'll recognize me by my old days' sailor suit."
Easy task and golden pay: something's fishy about it, but we need the gold. -

    6. Additional Notes (please be brief)
The quest has different difficulty options to support solo players, groups, low/high levels; there's also a completely optional path balanced for groups only.
There's a good amount of references, hidden secrets and easter eggs.

Thank you for submitting this fantastic quest but unfortunately it will have to be disqualified because it currently sits in the "Best" list of the foundry landing page.

I will however say that it is by far one of the best quests I have played to date and encourage anyone and everyone to play it!

Sorry mate, I didn't want to abuse anyone's time, the first time I saw it I thought I didn't qualify, then re-reading this "4. Not currently on the first page of the “Best” option in the Foundry in game listing." I went to the Foundry catalog and my quest wasn't in the "first page". Now I checked again and yes, I was dumb enough to think that the first page was just the first 5 quests shown in there. I apologize even if I acted in good faith :confused::confused:
