Over in CO.

Now, if you've never heard of this game before, I'd advise leaving, since this has little to concern those who haven't played this older game. To those who have a way to get in touch with Cryptic programmers and employees, however, send them this. And before anyone tells me to return to where I came from and ask for help from my own forum, I've tried that. We have not received any response from Cryptic for weeks. The last update we got? A race through a bunch of rings, and several broken costume pieces.

Cryptic, dear, Let me drive this point home: We're doing more development on your game than you are. What happened to the new Rampages we were supposed to receive? How about the Telepathy update, or Aura devices? What happened?

So to those who make their living at Cryptic, give us a sign. Anything.

Pretty please with sugar on top? I ADORE Champions. It has the greatest character creator I have ever seen and you can even make your own villain to fight against. The neglect is criminal. Please help us or at least acknowledge that you refuse to do so.

And the sad thing is that there has been shown to be a ton of half finished content here and there that's in our live files right now. If we could get a few people to complete those projects, do some bug repairs to stuff that has been broken there for years in some cases, and set a basic standard for future stuff so that it doesn't need to be repaired for years down the line(like the current costume unlocks being 1/3rd or less done) then I believe we would be ok.

CO, whether Jack wants to acknowledge us or not, is actually a very valuable asset to Cryptic. In the time I've been playing NW(BW3) I've seen many old bugs which have actually been repaired on CO like the /logout reverting to the Cryptic Account Login, the pets(companions) leaving ghosts everytime someone logs, and other various example. CO also has, IMO, a vastly superior(minus the bugs) UI and targetting system than NW. These things could be used to improve NW and we've had them for ages. On the other side of the coin NW has advances that CO could greatly benefit from like Foundry II, better Queue Status Displays, and I'd love to see the ground schtick attack display and double directional tap to dodge added to CO in addition to the block mechanics we have ingame.

The point is it's pretty bleak over in CO. The few people with hope left on the forums, myself included, had been holding out what little hope we had left based on how STO Launched when all the devs went over there. The thing is...STO went LIVE and the devs came back with a renewed fire. We got some mechanical "hand-me-downs" from STO(LvL X Mechanics for example). The problem I see now with NW is that it's launched into some bizarro-world "Endless Beta Mode" which makes me have to ask the questions. If NW never goes live when when to our devs come home? Do they come home?

TL/DR: Cryptic's actual "First Action MMO" needs help and has things which can help benefit NW at the same time if there were someone to look.

Don't worry- Neverwinter will be in the same shape within a year. Star Trek is slipping as well, with a mountain of problems. And rest assured that when Cryptic's next idea comes along Neverwinter will be in the dumpster with the rest of us.

And if someone thinks this is trolling, we're not. But in good conscience, none of use can really let new people come into the Cryptic/PWE family without letting you know how they treat their products, customers, and projects.

The difference though is that STO/NW have license holders behind them. So either they do keep on updating, or else they lose the license and fast.

Champions...sadly, has nobody behind them.

But yes, be warned - Cryptic does love abandoning games that it 'doesn't deem popular anymore'. CO has been on life support (at best) for a year now. And **** would I love to see it be successful again.

Can we please hear something? I love CO, and I'm enjoying NW, but my main enjoyment of NW is that it's -new- and my chat channels still work. Another thing is "wow, this would be great back in CO, and they now -have- it, so it should (since this is a CO engine apparently) be easy to put in" but I'm worried CO has been completely forgotten.

Agree 100%.

And I think from a marketing perspective Cryptic is also missing out a great opportunity here. You have this awesome trinity of genres (Fantasy, SciFi, SuperHero) all connected through your chat system. Heck, you could actually advertize it that way!

But Champions needs some love. The game itself is great and offers very unique things like the epic costume creator, complete freeform power customization, some great Comic Series and a good combat system to name a few. All of this counts for little though, if Cryptic is satisfied with keeping the Status Quo. This game could rise like a Phoenix from the ashes and attract plenty of your new customers to an epic trinity of genres.

Heck, seriously... I can see myself growing old with this trinity of games. No other MMO's needed. Make it happen Cryptic!

Having been a Champions Online player for a long time now, I have to agree with the sentiment that the game feels almost abandoned, and that makes me sad. :(

CO is, in my opinion, the only enjoyable MMO left in the superhero genre, and it is a real shame to see so much potential get so little love.

When it's possible to take an extended break from the game and return a year later to find it in almost the same state, with only the equivalent of new mounts and companions in the Zen store, and well under an hour's worth of new content (most of which was in the form of events that are no longer around)...
One wonders if the same won't happen the next year.

MMOs are, to me, a social experience, and this kind of stagnation leads to people leaving for other games, which diminishes the enjoyment of their friends who haven't yet left. It slowly snowballs from there. :(

So here's me doing my best puppy-eyes impression, hoping that cryptic gives us a reason to want to play their superhero title again. :3

100% agreed

After the abrupt and merciless execution of CoH, Champions has become my home... and it is sadly abandoned by the Devs... there is no communication with the Dev team there (Do we even have any Dev left?), no new costumes, story arc, new zone... etc.

The ONLY thing we want is for ALL 3 games to equally receive some Dev love. NWO just launched and will get more things for a while, STO is launching a pretty big update... CO... last new area was Vibora Bay.. last new permanent content were the Comic series and Action Packs... *sighs*

Come on Cryptic... help us out here... This is THE ONLY Superhero MMO left worth playing... and people here on NWO would do nicely to at least try the costume creator there... many of the things we have there SHOULD be implemented here. NWO is a fun game, but the customization options for character creator, and even then in game are laughable.

CO is a great game. It's true, the level of bugs are discouraging sometimes. And the amount of whining however typically unjustified it is, is in some cases admittedly kind of provoked (even though it gets really old hearing it day after day) - We can support something like this because it's not whining so much as it is an attempt at something constructive so, yea. Here we are. Supporting this.

Cryptic, give us a sign. Show us you're not just going to cast CO off to the side, give us some development for CO back - NWO is fun, but CO will always be better and our preferred/favourite game.

Here's something I noticed as a GLARING OMISSION...

Looking through the thread I don't see any Hero of the North Founders posting in this thread. Am I the first? Here's the omission that kind of raised a red flag for me regarding CO: When Cryptic/PWE "expanded" the goodies that come with HotN Founder's packs, there was no CO anything.

I got a truckload if freebie goodies from most (if not all) other PWE games - even got a free starter kit and Andorian (Lieutenant-level) ship and stuff for STO (even though I already have 8 Tier 5s there) - but.... but... absolutely nothing for CO. Not even a freebie costume or anything.

The lack of anything for CO doesn't tell me that anything bad will happen there, but it does tell me there is zero marketing interest for it. Which to me means it's on "autopilot" now... it will keep on in primarily maintenance mode until it becomes unprofitable and too much to continue the maintenance.

One thing to remember though: CO, unlike STO and NW has some serious heavy-weight super competition coming with the new Marvel game coming (or is it here already?) - and Marvel is owned by Disney, right? Can you say juggernaut?

We did bring up the fact CO got left out and got told that what they had planned ended up being impossible to implement. We even suggested at least a title or an AF of some sort but nothing ever came of it. If it's ever brought up any more we get "we're still trying to figure out what to do".

I HAVE SOME Limited lists of things I am going to add: For the most part I like the game in its build, but the system strays sooo far from 4rth overall, its abit gimped.

1)Healing Surges, every class gets em, to simplify this give each character a icon slot to the left as opposed to the right of the action bar and when the pc earns 3 levels allow them to stack like porions on tap, but require a campfire to reset cooldown on spend. Thus the more you use the surges the longer the cooldown when you spend them all. exception:Alters can reset them anytime anywhere when used. Each Class in turn starts with a set amount Fighters 4, Clerics and Thieves 3, Mages 2, a SURGE grants a 50% heal, that builds a 1 min heal to max as the character takes damage but has a 15 sec limit(the heal builds 1 min after) and a 30 sec cooldown.
Thus youll spend em a lot at times. They are afterall Surges..

2)They need to get rid of injurys, as its easier to wipe now after they under powered the existing class's. ARCANE ARCHER, Ranger,
barbarian, palidan and monk at least at some point, then again warlord and Assassin would rock.

3)SKILLS, DDO had em.A short doable list that panned out badley in that game. Its a thought, as the foundry I assume allows you to assign check values somewhere, things like doors, chests et cetera.

Overall making the game not feel like DDO, I hated the rest system in that game.Shame the one here isn't that much better, now heres where I say with the different systems for a mmo, auto recovery on health is a standerd for mmo's these days..

EDIT: I was considering getting lifetime next month when my tax return comes through, but there's so much fear of CO dying that I'm having second and third thoughts on it... I really love the game and want to see it grow much bigger, but I'm not prepared to put down that wad of cash if it's not going to grow at all...

Hero of the North here. Guardian as well. I dropped $260 on this game before playing the game, or even seeing a trailer or more than a few screenshots, just to show my support for Cryptic. I have a lifetime account on Champions, and have spent a lot of money over there too. I support them, and it would be nice to see some of that support back. But Champions is just left to rot with a facade of "new content development."
We did bring up the fact CO got left out and got told that what they had planned ended up being impossible to implement. We even suggested at least a title or an AF of some sort but nothing ever came of it. If it's ever brought up any more we get "we're still trying to figure out what to do".

And this is because PWE and/or Cryptic have literally abandoned the game. There's no one there that knows how to do things with the game engine. Even new costumes that come out have problems. There's little evidence that there's more than one developer doing things there.

Cryptic has away of doing half *** work they start a game and never fully support it or finish it. They have done this with all of their games to date just give it time and NW will get its turn at being abandoned. NW is a pretty great looking game but i don't know how much time i can spend in another cryptic game seeing as how they treat their past gaming playerbases. Champions deserves some attention heck any of the things they have promised in the past for CO but were never delivered would be nice.

Champions Online, a wonderful system in which you can be the most customizable superhero in the all-time history of gaming, in the world...and it's being abandoned, ignored, content being removed, and all of its massive potential....wasted.

People who have been playing for many years, and many who know exactly how to fix it, have been ignored for years, bugs, exploits plague the game and after 1.5 MILLION TICKETS, peoples pleas go without response or acknowledgement, even recently the ignoration has gone so far that some are even getting auto-responded to with Star Trek auto-responses...

Please, consider Champions Online. Quit being ignorant ####s and fix your old games before you release another broken pile of HAMSTER you NEVER stay to iron out.

CO, STO and now NW, and you haven't learned a thing.

Exploits such as Infinite Money and God Modes have, and still do plague CO...

If you're happy with vehicles and racing tracks once every 3 weeks, then by all means ride those vehicles and keep on playing brother. One thing I do know is that the net population of Champions, at prime time, peaks to around, like... What:
• 6 instances of Millennium City with around 60-90 people in them (we'll say, on average, 77.)
• 1 Instance of Canada with roughly 40 people
• 1 Instance of Desert with around 20
• Monster Island, around 20 people
• Vibora Bay, around 10
• Lemuria, we'll say 5 to be generous.
• Millennium City Powerhouse, with about 50 people.
• Around 90 people in Club Caprice (3 instances)
So that adds up to about 690, I think? That sound good to you? If not, would you say that's due to a lull in general interest in superhero-genre games, a lack of marketing, a strange predisposition towards implementing vehicles, a seeming silence lingering between the developers and players, or a group of people complaining about all of the above?

I'm a CO lifetimer. I don't regret my purchase, but that's going back to 2009, when things were still being added on a semi-regular basis. Now... I wouldn't advise making that kind of investment in CO.

Regardless, CO is still a very fun game, and you can buy your bags with regular in-game resources!

There's also a promo still going on where you can get the Devastator, which is basically the precursor to the Great Weapon Fighter:
http://www.alienwarearena.com/giveaway/champions-online-ffa-game-bundle

For a quick rundown, here's some free archetypes and their rough NW equivalent:

Great Weapon Fighter - Devastator (free w/ the above Alienware promo).
Guardian Fighter - Behemoth
Control Wizard - The Mind or The Grimoire
Trickster Rogue - The Unleashed or The Blade
Devoted Cleric - The Radiant or The Mind

Other stuff:
Play an archer over at CO! The Marksman uses a bow and arrows and is a free base archetype!

And a shameless plug of some costumes & concepts you can realize in CO: http://co-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=215881&highlight=biostem%27s+roster
