Also concerning the "anime spin to win", you know in real life the world record is 308 RPM at ice skating, if a human can spin that fast for real, why is it so far fetched that in a fantasy game with magic and flying unicorns you cant do it with a sword or whatever and not be something that is over the top
I did not see people complain about parts of the city floating in mid air and suddenly spinning is too much? Gods, some people you just cant please
"Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts."
Damn it... after reading the article I want to see sooo much more. Article lists abilities not even listed in the vid. Slam, shouts, avalanche of steel AoE tool.... grrrrrr want more details. Well in any case this pretty much dissolves any anxiety I had for only a Devote Cleric and that I won't be stuck in the healing specialized cleric.
I'm assuming Henchmen will be very similar to Star Trek Online's bridge officers and will most likely be able to accompany you into any of the single-player mission instances.
I wasn't saying that the bow-wielder wasn't a ranger just that perhaps it's not entirely conclusive. I'd love a ranger class as it's one of my favourites in all fantasy games.
As for the anime issue, if you don't use some "over-the-top" animations and stick purely to realism you can end up with a very stale combat experience. You need cool spell effects to be an awesome Wizard, and since you can't really have spell effects as a sword-wielding class then the animations need to be just as cool.
Not really. They said that NPC like the ones you know from novel, will even be available for some quest, when they will accompany you.(I transcribed that whole 1+ hour interview somewhere on forums)
That does not mean drizzt henchman but that they will be available in some select quest as an NPC companion.
But yes, henchmen have been confirmed but no further detail after confirmation.
ahh could have sworn they said that a Drizzy henchment was there... actually am ecstatic he's not an available henchman. Need...to..kill...Drizzit. "I can beat Drizzit with both my arms ties behind my back."
BTW, DDO has two weapon fighter swinging 360 degrees for a cleave. Its in their trailers too. And it is not a new addition but has been there since launch.
Actually it is more like 420 degrees I think, instead of just 360 ...

Well originally the Ranger was listed and on the Chinese site there is an unannounced class listed which many speculate that it is the Ranger. Cryptic said there was some mechanics they need to fix with the Ranger and haven't made any confirmation that the Ranger will be included at launch but all this was before the extended development I believe so I'm betting it's a good possibility that the Ranger will be at launch.

Oh! And in latest intervew, they refused to confirm that drizzt is there. They just said that drizzt companions are there. They specifically excluded him when asked.
Either they didn't get rights, or they think holding back that info(drizzt in game) is better.

This brings so many questions to mind that I just dont have the time to list them atm.
A few things I noticed:
As for whirlwind attack, the animation is currently broken in DDO, so it's brilliant they decided to highlight spinning strike.
Now, I got to be honest, it looks more like the fighter turned into the Tazmanian Devil more then it resembles anything D&D. Thats just my opinion. It looks cool at first... but when he's traveling from mob to mob it looks all Taz to me!
This is going to be one of my main characters out of the gate. I need to see more than solo videos however. In a full party, all that "flash photography" going off at once is going to be distracting to some.
As for the anime/cartoon/WoW feel... I see it more in the leaps, than in whatever Dragons talking about. I didnt get the pirate look or the round eyes deal either.
Over all I think its a solid effort, especially if they arent done polishing. We need to see moar!!!
I believe the GW Fighter "utility" power (similar to the mage's teleport and the rogue's dodge-roll) is a directional sprint. It's noted near the end of the Massively article:
"Finally, use Sprint, a rechargeable Utility Power, to close the distance on anyone attempting to escape their fate and deal the finishing blow!"

!
Tasmanian devil was my first thought too, which is funny, because a few of the qualities that everyone stereotypes as japanese anime - like the big eyes and humanization of animals - all started and became popular because of Disney. Like... Mickey Mouse, Taz, Beauty and the Beast, etc...
I'm not I'm looking at what has been complaints and concerns before from those of us who have been here since these forums were open.
I don't think it looks too bad animation wise, having said that I'm waiting for it to take off and hover away. a spin quarter that time would look less offensive/over the top , just my 2 cents.
LOLZ on TAZZIE devil

I'm really pumped to play the Great Weapon Fighter...and that's saying a lot.
I don't particularly care for 2H Weapons. I haven't had a character which has used one since I played Baldur's Gate 2...and that was an NPC.
Yet thing thing...this wonderful, wonderful creation has me going 'I can haz it!?"
However I think I'm going to expect some "DEMACIA!" battlecries in game by GWF Players. Spin to Win Baby.
I like the look of this fighter than the other one. I'm glad they are finally showing "other" types of classes. I would have hated to have been stuck using only the 1 fighter type.
The animation didn't look to bad, reminds me of Champions online with the one power they have in the duel blade power set.
I'm super excited for the Greatweapon Fighter. It's like a Football player with years of Ballet- graceful destruction. Pairs pretty well with the "poetry in motion" of the Trickster Rogue! But, I wax poetic.
Let's keep this on topic and leave discussions about anime to the Off Topic section. Thanks!
Well, first of all Thanks Cryptic! I made a thread asking about a 2H fighter and now here he is
Second, whats with this ' these anime 2h moves suck ' thing ? FYI the manga Berserk (also adapted as anime) has possibly the coolest, darkest, monster slaying great weapon moves (and great sword for that matter) ever. Check it out, anime aint half bad when it comes to 2h weapon combat. As for the actual GWF, from what I saw in the presentation video, I can only say 'I like it'
Row, row, row your boat, Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Life is but a dream.

Actually from talking to some guys that worked on 3rd and 4th ed the Whirlwind was suppose to be like the the O-kesa Mizu move that the Samurai use to employ (think of Tornado kicks with a sword) Ray Park used this move quite a bit in TPM and it looks awesome if done right....much better I think than the TAZ spin....but as I was told this will fall on deaf ears, too many people like that over the top Otakonesque combat though (Xena running on the walls ) devs included apparently.
The thing is not having that would not be a deal breaker to many but wedging it into a D&D game is going to turn off a lot of old school players....I heard more than one "WTF is that?" from my group (one who remarked: "don't wire-fu my D&D please") who have already decided to give the game a pass...because they feel it is drifting too far in the "Blizzard sparkle pony" realm already. And you might say who cares, but pissing off the vets didn't help DDO one bit....and just look at all the redaction that Cryptic has had to do with STO, due to fan outcry's.

It looks like it fits in with the rest of what they've shown for combat animations, "rule of cool".
